"You all set for the big day, big man?"

"Hey Alex! Get a good night's sleep last night? Eat your Wheaties?"

"How long is the list this year? Got any that need covered?"

It was common knowledge at the shop that approximately two-thirds of the deliveries that Alex would be making today weren't for the company. And the one-third left were only because he'd farmed out some deliveries to the other cyclists.

"Man, how long did it take you to figure all of that out? I can't even remember to buy my wife chocolate!

In fact, they jokingly referred to Valentine's Day as "Alex's Christmas" because of the number of gifts he distributed. A few were weirded out that he gave things not only to people he was seeing, but to friends, friends' partners, even a few bosses here and there.

"What're you trying to do, dude? Put Cupid out of business or keep Hallmark going strong?

Alex just grinned and adjusted his hat. He loved lots of people in his life, truly and deeply and in a multitude of ways. If he chose this day to express it, well, it was tradition. His tradition.
