February 27th, 2008

Alex had been out for most of the night, celebrating the birthday of one of the girls down at the shop. He was whistling as he unlocked his door and wheeled his bike in. He was about to flip on his light when the TV came on instead.

"What the ... Oh. Seven. Heh. Almost forgot."

He shut and locked the door and flopped on to the floor.

"All right, Tampa, watchya got?"

He'd never heard the song before, but he definitely recognized the scenes; it was like watching a movie of his life. It was a movie of his life. It looked like it had been taken on one of those old 8mm cameras. He grinned and waved back at his four-year old self.

"Lookin' good kid!"

The scenes of the streets, of the gang, were harder to watch, but he didn't look away.

The wind is moving
But I am standing still
A life of pages
Waiting to be filled
A heart that's hopeful
A head thats full of dreams
But this becoming
Is harder than it seems
Feels like I'm...

Looking for a reason
Roaming through the night to find
My place in this world
My place in this world
Not a lot to lean on.

"That's where you're wrong Tampa," Alex corrected the singer. Maybe the city was listening because it started to show pictures of him and Tony, Cass, Lance, Gayle, Lanie, Alanna ... All of his friends as the musical interlude played on.

"Toldja!"

The song finally drew to a close and the screen faded to black. Alex rolled back off the floor, singing softly.

Where do I belong
Is there a vision
That I can call my own...
