Takes place during this party

Alex looked vaguely sheepish when he stood at the top of the ramp and called for everyone's attention.

"So, you'd think with all my stories, this would be the easy part," he said as he scrubbed at his neck. "But, uh, I just wanted to thank you all for coming tonight. And especially thank Sophus and his crew for organizing it, and Tony and the guys from the club for helping me build the ramp, and all the presents -- which I totally wasn't expecting but I'm not giving back either. And double thanks go to Gayle and Matt, who totally went above and beyond."

He paused as some people clapped.

"Anyway, uh, so the kids have gotten a little, well, I guess you can't really call it a tour, but they know what the plan is so I figured I should let you all in on it too. So! Imagine if you will!" He gestured toward his left. "Over here's gonna be a combination beginner's area and street area. In the center is sort of a tall flat space for people to watch and launch from, um, and over on the right here will be advanced and a bowl. I, uh, realize that might not mean a whole hell of a lot to you if you're not into the sport, so I've, um ..."

He patted his pockets and pulled out a well-folded napkin with a sketch on it. "I guess this doesn't really count as a blueprint, but hey, everything has to start somewhere, right? And napkins have been good to me over the years."

He handed the napkin down to Doreen and nodded at her to hand it over to the nearest person in the crowd to be passed around. He had it memorized by now.

"Oh! And this space behind me will be built out with a front desk, lounge and office. Now, I'm not going to be able to do this all by myself," he said. "So you can all probably expect to get desperate phone calls or emails from me at some point. Just ask Logan Cale, who let me pick his brain about. Well, lots of stuff. Anyway, I've got a call out for bids with general contractors and if everything goes to plan, in about four months, that sketch that's going around will actually be filling the space. Just in time for school to start..." He realized.

"Perhaps not my best timing ever."

He shook his head and chuckled.

"Right, so I guess the last thing to reveal is the name of this place." He looked for the members of his myth in the crowd and grinned broadly.

"Welcome to Freak Nation."
