IN CHARACTER

Name: Azazel aka Yellow Eyes aka Yellow Eyed Demon
Fandom: SPN
Age: 2000 give or take
Point in Canon:  Post death at the end of season 2
Alignment: Hell of course

Powers (If any):
Is impervious to Holy Water. Possesses human hosts, but can exist in a disembodied form also, and has the ability to possess a Reaper. Can create and manipulate fire. Is telekinetic, and has pinned humans to the walls and the ground using this power. Can enter a human's subconscious. Displays superhuman-strength. Has the authority to make deals. Impervious to salt barriers.

Personality: Azazel loves games. He also loves to taunt people; he is good at appear sympathetic, all the better to take your soul, my dear, and has played the part of 'confidante' for many a lost soul. He's extremely intelligent and can be both refined and elegant when he chooses. He loves to create mischief and chaos, and is extremely patient - he has been known to wait centuries for one tiny event to happen, just to sit back and enjoy what occurs.

Brief History:
2,000 years is a long time for a human - to a demon, it's barely a blink. In fact, it can be compared to the time spent waiting at Starbucks for an iced grande non-fat half-caf pumpkin spice latte with whip and cinnamon dolce sprinkles (a demonic creation, in case you were wondering; no angel would take credit for a mouthful so complicated. An angel did, however, create the strawberries and cream frappuccino. Demons countered by making it customizable.). Time is spent mostly on general evil - corrupting the good, making deals for souls, and, of course, training other demons. His children. 'Round about the ninth century, give or take, Azazel began to have the glimmerings of a very special plan, one what would ultimately usher in a 'Golden Age' (pardon the pun) for demons. And to do that, he needed a few special children of his own. First came Meg. She would always be his favorite, because she was truly vicious and unfeeling as him. He chose her out of a pool of other demons primarily because she forced her way into his eye by killing a hundred other, inferior demons. He began to groom her for the tasks he would use her for in the centuries to come.

Next came Ruby. She came to his attention around the middle of the fourteenth century, because she gave in so quickly, and because he could sense something different about her. She was special, like Meg, but different. As he ruled the demons of hell in his own father's absence, she was rarely seen from his side. He taught her how to serve as a demon, and alternately drove her insane with his stories and strengthened her demonic resolve. For a millenia, Meg and Ruby were among his chosen, to the point where it was they who he trusted above all other demons - if a demon could ever trust, that is.

Finally, in the twentieth century, his plan began to come to fruition. In 1972, Azazel possesses a priest at St. Mary's Convent in Ilchester, Maryland (a sign of things to come?) and kills eight nuns, thus enabling him to speak to Lucifer, his father. Lucifer reveals that it will be his first child, Lilith, and not Azazel, who will bring about his release from the prison Michael locked him in. It is Lilith who must break 66 seals...but Azazel is charged with finding a special child. The next year, he begins to travel the country, going to various select people and making very specific deals with them - but not for their souls. He tells them only that he's going to show up in a decade to do something, and that he musn't be disturbed while he's there. Ten years later, the deals come due and Azazel returns to each family, feeding his blood to various babies (boys and girls) as they lay in their nurseries. On November 2, 1983, he does the same to Sam Winchester, and Mary Winchester enters the room, interrupting him. Thus, Mary is one of several mothers that year who dies in a fire. It's following this that John Winchester swears revenge on Azazel, and begins to learn everything he can about hunting and tracking Azazel.

In the years that follow, Azazel is anything but lazy. He divides his time amongst all his special kids, taking out various people around them. As for the Winchesters, he targets people associated with Mary Winchester: family, friends, even her doctor. In 2002, he instructs a demon to possess Sam's college friend Brady with the intent of having him introduce Sam to Jess, then later kill her to propel Sam back into hunting. In the year that followed, Azazel continued his games while keeping an eye on the Winchesters through a network of various demons, one of them being Meg. Her discovery was unfortunate, but hardly a setback. Thanks to her, he was able to get closer to the Winchester family, and learned that they had found the coveted weapon that could kill 'anything', the Colt. This was one weapon that Azazel wanted, namely because it could kill him. He possessed John Winchester and almost got his hands on it, but had to vacate the meatsuit thanks to being shot in the leg by the Colt - thankfully, not enough to kill him. He arranged for their car to be hit after they left town, because one or two of them dead (as long as it wasn't Sammy) would be just as good.

The plan went better than even he could have dreamed. As poor Dean Winchester lay dying in his hospital room, Azazel was summoned by John Winchester, who insisted on making a deal for the life of his son. But Azazel refused to settle for one mere soul, pushing John to sweeten the deal by giving him the Colt. The only concession he gave John was the chance to say goodbye to his sons - after all, Azazel, too, was a father. For another year, he played games with the Winchester boys, positioning various demons and events to occur to push Sammy to become the leader that Azazel wanted, the child that he wanted to create. Not just any old human would do, after all, and Sam had to prove that he was stronger than all the others. Events culminated in a place called Cold Oak. There, he deposited Sam and the other children left from the deals he had made in 1973, and influenced them into turning on each other. At first, he thought that the winner would be Sam, but Jake surprised him.

Problem was, Jake wasn't who he wanted. When Dean Winchester followed in his father's footsteps, Azazel made sure that the demon who would hold the contract would be himself (transferable to Lilith upon his death, of course; she knew the ultimate plan and would make sure things could be done, should anything happen). He made sure that the demon Dean made the deal with granted him only one year, because Dean, too, had his part to play in Azazel's Ultimate Plan. Leaving instructions with Ruby, he made his way to the Devil's Gate, intending on making sure everything went according to plan, using Jake Talley to get himself there. He instructs Jake on opening the Trap, and as it opens, the ground trembles, breaking the iron keeping hundreds of demons and ghosts inside, releasing them into the world. Azazel steps into the cemetery and snatches the Cold from Dean while he's distracted, then prepares to kill Sam. However, he finds that he underestimated the power of family and love; John Winchester appears and wrestles Azazel from his host, giving Dean enough time to grab the Colt and shoot him as he re-enters the body, and Azazel dies.

Played By: Frederic Lehne & Jeffrey Dean Morgan
Additional Notes: As per my talk with the mods, when he first shows up, he intends on playing a little game with the Winchesters, after having one of his pet demon-witches cast a spell on him, giving him the appearance of John Winchester.
