REASON FOR PLACEMENT AT RETREAT: Penny is self admitted. She has repressed trauma from being Petrified by a basilisk when she was sixteen, but what she went through during the war has taken its toll and left her unable to function in her role as a Healer.

NOTABLE ASSOCIATIONS: Percy Weasley's ex girlfriend. Ravenclaw prefect, Charms club. Penny is very bright, but she is a poor judge of character. Despite being a textbook Ravenclaw she does not lean into any stereotype about reclusive bookish types and loves socialising and spending time in the outdoors. She just wants the best for people and tends to think the best of someone unless they give her clear reasons not to.

Or at least that was true before the war. Her spirit wasn't crushed but it is severely bruised, and now she has a whopping dose of trust issues to go along with her fear of snakes.

After being Petrified for almost a month in her Sixth Year, Penny has a serious case of FOMO. It drove her to study harder in preparation for her NEWTs, fearful of having fallen behind even though she typically was top of her class in most subjects. The thought of lost opportunities pushes her to get involved with anything and everything, and she rarely has time to just sit and chill. Penny was the second child born to Halfblood father Eugene Clearwater and Muggleborn mother Cornelia Byrne. She is close with her older brother Leonard who later cursed that he missed meeting the famous Harry Potter at school, having graduated the year prior to Harry's commencement. She loves her younger sister Marjie too, and the girls share a similar trait of poor character judgement, with Marjie trusting in the likes of fellow classmate and friend Marietta Edgecombe.

Growing up, Penny was exposed to both the magical and mundane worlds. All her aunts, uncles and cousins are Muggles, and she spent many summers and holidays with them. She is almost as big a fan of soccer as she is of Quidditch, and bears no prejudice towards those the Death Eaters targetted. That wasn't to say she was anti-Slytherin though. Her beloved older brother Leo was a Slytherin (yes, he's heard all the jokes about a Gryffindor lion in the snake den) and exemplified at all the house's best qualities. Determined to prove not all Slytherins are terrible, and clever and ambitious enough to make something of himself, he became an Auror after graduating from Hogwarts.

Penny held similar ambitious tendencies, though she is more of a lover than a fighter. Her mother's side of the family had many doctors and nurses amongst them, and she naturally gravitated to a career as a Healer, and had the high marks necessary for such a demanding role. After three years of intensive study after graduation, Penny was in her first year as a qualified Healer when the war broke out in earnest. Thrown into the deep end with more patients showing up by the day, she quickly became experienced with all manner of gruesome injuries.

It was about this time that she began dating Alexandre, a longtime friend, fellow doctor and former Slytherin. They had many things in common, save for the fact that Alex was secretly a Death Eater. He did love her in his own way, brushing off her Muggle blood with thoughts that she was ~NoT lIkE oThEr MuDbLoOdS~ and kept her from being targeted when Death Eaters started persecuting anyone they didn't consider pure enough. Penny just thought she had been left alone because of the clear need for Healers, and Alex defended his relationship to other Death Eaters with a tale of just keeping her close in order to manipulate her.

Unfortunately for Penny, Alex ended up being called on his bluff, and he chose to save his own skin rather than protect his girlfriend. He placed Penny under the Imperius Curse, forcing her to render ineffective aid to any Muggle or Mudblood she encountered, and it only got worse from there. Voldemort was rebuilding his arms of Inferi, but not all of his followers were capable of the complicated spellwork needed to create the fearsome creatures. Penny created monsters in place of saving the people they had once been, and Alex promptly took control of the Inferi so that they could serve his Master.

When the war ended, Alex was imprisoned for his crimes. Penny was put on trial but ultimately found not guilty, and she returned to her role as a Healer, determined to make up for the damage she had done. Not all of her colleagues believed that she was under the Imperius Curse, and that doubt along with the horror of what she had done eventually lead to her decision to go to the retreat.
