In depth |
Personality: Leo is interested in the way the world works, even now. He appreciates the chance he has to watch the world change and grown around him, in ways that most others do not. It lends to him having a more relaxed sort of personality in general, but he pays attention to details and he is an excellent judge of character - which has helped him forge and break relationships over the years. Leo likes to blend in most of the time, it serves him far better when he is observing those around him though he has certainly maintained a great deal of his upbringing and it is most obvious in his carriage and mannerisms when he is with those he trusts. He is a bit of an optimist as well. And while Leo can certainly carry himself with all the seriousness a given situation calls for he does enjoy finding his own personal brand of humor in things. Special Abilities: Vampire. Leo has also taken advantage of his longevity to learn a great many skills, he's had plenty of time for it after all. Strengths: Having lived as long as he has Leo has rather more skill with the natural abilities of vampires than many of the younger of their kind do. Weaknesses: Some might say he has far too much interest in the lives of humans and wizards but even after nearly two centuries of life Leo still finds things to be interested in. |

History |
Leo was born in 1855, at his family's home in Vienna, Austria, to Elisabeth Maria and Friedrich Mayr von Melnhof a Baron in the Austrian Empire. He was raised as part of the aristocracy of the time, and therefore had a very strict up bringing, complete with private tutors for all areas of his upbringing, to help him when the time came to take his place in society. Leo took to his studies easily and he was a very good student, excelling in most areas of his education and received much praise from his tutors for his efforts. In 1867 the Austrian Empire declined in power significantly, thankfully Leo's family was not effected by these political changes, very little changed for them at all in Vienna. When Leopold turned twenty he was married, and he and his wife Josephine got right to the business of starting a family of their own. Nine months after they wed their son Maximilian was born. At twenty-one Leo joined the Imperial-Royal Army of the Austro-Hungarian Empire where he served for 7 years as an officer. In 1882 Leo returned home after his years serving in the Military much decorated. During his time serving in the military Josephine gave birth to twins, Elisabeth and Marie-Catherine. Leo was quite content with the life he had made for himself with Josephine and their children, and when he had finished his time in the Military things only got better. He and Josephine spent much of their time in court. Visiting nobles were nothing new and Leo took time to get to know many of them, enjoying stories about their lives and homes, as well as the benefits such connections afforded him. He and Josephine attended parties and other social gatherings together after he returned home, it was at one of these parties that Leo enjoyed the company of a young woman from France - Josephine had fallen ill and so Leo had attended on his own for the first time in many months. She was lovely and quite worldly for someone of her age, and Leo was fascinated by her. They talked most of the evening, trading stories of their lives and travels. Helen was actually a vampire and she became so taken with Leo that before the night was over she managed to get them into a secluded spot in the gardens and turned him, intent on keeping him for herself. Helen was in the habit of surrounding herself with interesting people, and how better to do that than to make their company permanent? However Leo was not nearly as thrilled with the concept of immortality as Helen seemed to think he ought to be, and when he realized what he'd become Leo fled the country. For a great many years Leo wrestled with what he'd become, it went against everything he knew, it was unnatural and so very wrong. How could he have become something like this, he had always considered himself a devout man, and yet he had become something which ought not to exist. He could not go back to his family, and instead simply let them believe he had died. He resisted human blood as often as possible early in his life, but the blood of animals was not nearly satisfying enough. He made his way across Europe, preferring areas filled with wars and political unrest, it made hunting easier, and it didn't weigh so heavily on his conscious to feed from those who were dying. He forgot about his family, and the life he was meant to have and over several years embraced this new life, beginning to see some benefit to the longevity it offered, and while he never joined Helen, Leo did accept this life. He began to learn how to acquire wealth, how to travel safely, and how to live as long as possible. He had met others like himself in his travels, but quickly learned about their tendency to have their lives cut short - and he was too tempted by the idea of eternity to do something to jeopardize his chance at that. However he did take the opportunity meeting others of his kind presented to learn how to move more safely through the world, to learn about what he'd become, and how to survive. His introduction to magic came from one of these meetings, he'd never imagined such a thing possible if he were honest, though perhaps he shouldn't have been so naive considering his own situation. He was fascinated by magic, having let go of many of the stigmas surrounding things so unnatural after having come to terms with his lot in life, and he asked many questions of those he met who had magical abilities. It was the early part of 1914 when Leo went to America, the political unrest in Europe had grown too great and he wanted to seek out new lands and see what America had to offer. Which ended up being quite a lot. America presented many new opportunities and Leo enjoyed the chance to start fresh there. Leo continued changing and evolving adapting to his new surroundings and picking up new skills as he went. Thanks to his many years he's since become a very skilled fighter, having honed the techniques he learned as a child and first put to use in the Imperial-Royal Army, he's mastered many weapons as well as hand to hand combat. He can speak several languages fluently: German, Romanian, Italian, French, Spanish and of course English. Learning the different dialects helped him to lose his accent, which has allowed him to slip into most cultures without a second thought for his origins. In the 1950s Leo became employed by Josef Korzha, working with him at the start of his new business and he has stuck close with the other vampire since then. In the past Leo only ever kept company for short periods of time, but it has proven to be a very beneficial relationship that he'd forged with Josef and he hasn't been in a hurry to end it just yet. |
