GI TCHAI | ||||
| how to control someone; Gi Tchai is a vampire of the Sol Bloodline who was turned in her mid-20s when a vampire who was quite fond of her turned her in favor of letting her die after she was raped and beaten on her way home. Unable to stay so close to her family, she and her new sire left for sunnier pastures. She has been flitting around the sunnier parts of the world, making contacts, learning things, killing bastards she catches raping or getting away with it... at least until she got drafted by Omega. It's an interesting job and occasionally she even gets the pleasure of a nasty supernatural also fitting her personal favorite code of "kill the abuser". | |||
PHYSICAL APPEARANCE how to hate women when you're supposed to be a feminist Gi looks just like you'd expect a Korean girl in her 20's to look: she has big, almond-shaped dark brown eyes, smooth skin, an expressive smile and long, straight dark brown-verging on black hair that can be up or down depending entirely on her mood. She usually walks with a bit of a bounce in her step and leans towards brighter colors and outfits more suited for warm environments - unless someone tells her differently, a reminder of "Gi? Honey, it's 10 degrees out... you should put on real pants" - because she really has forgotten about the whole warm/cold thing unless she's been drinking fire elemental. She is all of five-foot-four and probably weighs around a hundred and nine pounds soaking wet. She looks like she could do with a good meal or seven with her high cheekbones and thin waist, but at least she can keep a healthy flush to her skin if she spends enough time out in the sun. And looks are deceiving, she could break you in half, and she's been trained in a few different sorts of martial arts. Brute strength just isn't as much fun as flourishing an iron-tipped fan you know how to use. Her most prominent scars include a diagonal slash going from just under her left breast to her right hip that looks like it would have split her apart - and it did and a perfect circle on the top and bottom of her right hand where some lucky genius drove an iron stake through her hand when she was going for him. Like all vampires, Gi does have very prominent fangs. She also has a very well-established habit of glamouring her fangs so that they don't show and freak people out.
PERSONALITY how to play all pious when you're really a hypocrite Since no one who knew her when she was alive is around anymore, it hardly matters that she is a very, very different person than she was then. Being turned... created a new persona. Bits and pieces of the old lingered on - a loyalty to her family, she has kept very good track of her family tree as it grows and spreads - but they were mostly bled out in that alley and replaced with something else. Gi has a lot of anger still in her over how and why she died and it flares up now and again. She cannot abide by anyone who abuses a woman or a child, but especially not rapists of any sex, shape, breed... she doesn't care. That woman, or man on a few occasions, will have said yes or you were her next meal. It's the way that she fed herself for the longest time, a sort of code her sire helped her come up with to cope with what she was. She didn't want to drink the blood of people who hadn't done anything, but people who hurt those weaker than themselves? People who did to others what had been done to her? Gi sees nothing wrong with that. Gi sees an open bar. Whatever her religion might have been when she was alive, Gi now does believe in a higher power. One that occasionally needs help taking out the trash. After all, if someone does something bad enough, then don't they deserve to pay the ultimate price? Stealing a person's innocence is worth that. Other than that, she's actually not too bad a person. She wasn't really allowed to educate herself as a mortal, so being told that she could do just that with her immortal life? Gi became a bit of a nerd. Every subject that she could get her hands on, she did. She is a bit like a walking dictionary and encyclopedia, only toss supernatural in with all the rest, because she has been researching specifically into everything that was only a fairy tale or a myth before. She has done her best to taste all of their blood too, not always to the point of draining, but just for reference and she prides herself on being able to tell what a person is with just a drop of their blood. If her mind gets wrapped up in something - nowadays that would be a case for Omega usually - then she won't let it go until she figures out the answer. Unfortunately, she can only really focus on one thing at a time, so if she's trying to figure out why, exactly, mermaids like living in Lake Michigan as much as they do the ocean, then she's not going to be able to give you a hand. Maybe help her find one to talk to so she can get it off her mind and help you out. In addition to being obsessed with learning things, Gi is the sort of person who genuinely enjoys having fun. Skateboarding, practicing with ninja stars, poking Ash into turning into a boar so that she can figure out exactly how much he can carry, going to the movies... you get the picture. Laughing is every bit as good as drinking from a molester, helping the others put a nasty supernatural down and figuring out the reason 'why'. Actual emotions other than anger, curiosity, having fun... Gi tries not to have them. They complicate things and when they do turn up, it means that she's glancing towards where her nearest great-great-great-whatever grandkid is having a real life like she didn't get to finish out. It hurts her poor little undead heart that she never got to watch her kids grow up, or cradle her grandkids and grow old. If you ever catch her crying then that's why. And she will not be okay with you ever bringing it up again. Give her a shot of angelic blood, it's her version of a chocolate cookie.
STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES how to hate god when you're a prayer and a spiritualist Special Skills/Abilities: Gi is skilled in several different types of martial arts (ninjitsu, karate and taekwondo), can speak fluent Korean, Thai, English, Spanish, Saidi Arabic, Latin (though she's better at reading and translating this one for academic purposes), Swahili, French, Portugese... mostly languages that come in handy when staying in sunny, warm countries like those in Africa, South America... Florida. She has also gotten very good at knowing the race instead of just bloodtype of almost every race with as little as a drop of blood. Personal Strengths: Ask Me Anything. Gi is smart, like really smart, and she has dedicated the majority of her unlife to seeing that her knowledge encompasses everything. Her main focus has been the supernatural world, but she's pretty well-versed on history, and had a few key contacts who learned about her and would come to her when they had a question they couldn't find the answer to. I'm a Sol. She's learned about other vampire families, and Gi is firmly convinced that hers is the best for the strengths that it offers her: her glamours (that she didn't know about in life) are amazing, she actually benefits from the sun, she is stronger than other vampires during the day and she knows what the weather is going to be like. She dares you to beat that. Taste Is My Gift. When she was a human, Gi had an amazing sense of taste. She could recreate almost anything that she ate and always knew what was in a dish. A perfect palate for lack of a better phrase, and it carried over to her death. Since she can't eat food now, it's translated itself to blood, and she is able to identify any type of blood so long as she has tasted it before. And there are very few, if any, types of blood that she hasn't tasted. Personal Weaknesses: Permanently Damaged. No matter how much she's embraced her life after death, Gi still wasn't ready to die. She was content and possibly would've been happy one day seeing her children grow and coddling her grandchildren, but she never got that chance. She is eternally grateful to her sire for saving her and giving her a new life, but she is still off-kilter a bit because of it. Hence her little code and her habit of looking up her family tree to check in and live almost vicariously. She even says hi and becomes friendly sometimes. But it never works because they're going to grow old and die... she thought about turning a few, but really, she doesn't think she should. Also there's that part where she has a serious problem just letting people who destroy other's innocence go; if she can't kill them anymore (other people can be so sensitive about what they call murder) then she can drain them and leave them mostly dead for the police with as much evidence as she can find of their crimes. Need the Sun. Being a Sol has that serious downfall: without the sun, she loses her boosted sense and ability to use glamours. She needs to drink fae blood and bathe in the sun at least once every seven days. She prefers to do so more often and will get sullen and grumpy if it's raining for more than five days. She has been known to track down some air elementals and convince them to work their ways so that she can have her half a day of sunlight. Air elementals are pretty much her favorite so long as they're cooperative. When the Sun Goes Down. Good luck getting her to go outside when it's dark. She is weaker than other vampires then, practically just a human, and she is the opposite of comfortable. If she has to then she will, but she doesn't want to. At all. Easily Excited. Usually by new information, but she has been known to get a little over excited about a new hat or the prettiest ninja star she's ever seen and have you been in some of Chicago's magic stores? It is beyond a shame that she can't learn magic, but... that is not the point. The point is that she gets excited about something and she hooks onto it. She can be very, very bad for fads. Special Dietary Needs. Fae blood. Oh, she'll drink other blood if she can't get her fae, but fae is really what she needs. If she doesn't have fae every two days then there is no way in hell she's going outside of her room at all because she doesn't want to turn into a fried vampire crisp. This is why she tends to keep an emergency stash with her at all times, usually in a specialized compartment inside of her coffin. What? Like you don't have weird sleeping habits. Some Things Are Black and White. If you rape someone or abuse a child, you are bad. There are no if's, there are not but's, there are no excuses. It is wrong and you need to be punished. Shades of grey are hard for her to see in these matters, and she won't. The best anyone has gotten is Omega and her new inability to just kill the types of people she wants to, resorting her to just bleeding and leaving them - sadly alive - for the law. Eh, She Loves Me. Gi's sire has been the best person in her life for the longest time, and she does love her. Unfortunately, she doesn't love Alaina the same way that Alaina loves her. She tried once, but it just doesn't work, and it's left them a little estranged. They still meet up every few years, and Gi knows that if she ever needs anything then she can go to her for help. It just gets really uncomfortable after a certain amount of time and she really does feel bad about it.
PERSONAL HISTORY how to lie to yourself and thereby to everyone else There was nothing remarkable or noteworthy about Gi or her family. She was born to a typical working class family in Seoul a decade before the turn of the century. Gi lived her life doing as she was told, learning what she was supposed to... meeting a boy when she was fifteen and getting married when she was sixteen, having her first son when she was seventeen... this was what she was supposed to do, and so she did. It carried on like that with her caring for the children (she would have four, one son and three daughters) while her husband worked until she was twenty-six. It was late and she was going home after having spent the day at her sister's, helping them out as her sister had been ill, when it happened. Gi turned off into an alley as a shortcut and the next thing she knew, she had been hit over the head. Unfortunately it didn't knock her fully out, just rendered her in a dazed state, and she remembered everything that happened. From her dress being ripped off to the knife that was meant to spill her life out in that alley, to the face of the man who had done it. She was meant to die in that alley, and Gi was certain she would, but then a woman was there. She thought she recognized her as the accented woman who she had been seeing around the markets for as long as she remembered, who laughed a lot and gave her and the others sweets when they were children, and gave them to her children now. Alaina? The woman begged for Gi to give her permission to change her, to save her, and Gi did. She didn't know what it meant, but she knew that surely she did not want to die. It's hard to say whether she wished she had or not once she realized what had happened. She learned that the world was much different than what she had thought it was; supernaturals were a thing. More than that, she was now a vampire. Alaina had been a vampire for as long as she had known her, and that explained why she was no different now than she had been when she was a child. She had been watching the Tchai family for awhile, as a promise to Gi's grandmother, and when one of her favorites was faced with dying... well she couldn't let that happen. Gi was distraught. She wanted to go home to her family, but she couldn't do that. The temptation of their blood would be too much and besides that, they thought she was dead. Alaina explained as gently as she could that it was for the better that way. If she went back to them then how could she explain what she was? How could she explain that she was never going to get a day older while they all grew up and died? In the end, Alaina managed to convince her that it would be better to leave. Gi said goodbye to her family while they were sleeping, giving them all a final kiss on the forehead before leaving. But before they could leave Seoul, there was something that Gi needed to do. The man who had killed her. Gi didn't want to leave him to do the same to some other woman, so she convinced Alaina that it was a good idea to get rid of him. He was her first ever kill: and she enjoyed it way, way too much. His taste was also strangely pleasing and made her feel so... powerful. She made Alaina have a taste, and the older vampire informed her that that was a demonic-blooded water elemental, a cool drink of power basically. Gi was curious about the different types of blood, and the different supernaturals, and as they left for sunnier pastures, Alaina began to teach her about them. First and foremost were the fae-blooded anythings: as Sol, they needed them to survive. Their blood was what let them go out in the sun, their blood was what let them use their glamours... fae-blood was everything and she should never let herself be without it. They settled down at first in Thailand, a different country but not too terribly different, where the sun was reliable and Alaina could focus on teaching Gi what she needed to learn along with what she wanted to. She thinks that they lived there for at least forty years, and they were some of the best. She was able to do things she had never known she wanted to do: learning other languages (Thai came first, though Alaina worked on teaching her the English and Spanish that she already knew as well), becoming proficient in multiple martial arts so that she was graceful as well as strong, and just learning. Gi had a voracious appetite for books once she learned to read, and there never seemed to be enough. She would spend days on the beach once she took an interest in sharks, going so far as to submerge herself on the bottom of a bay so that she could witness them in their natural environment, and she even learned of a were-shark. At first, she only followed him, curious, but eventually he confronted her and she said that she had seen him change and she was just curious. So she started to learn about were's, and she actually liked this guy. His name was Prem and they became friends, and eventually more than friends. Prem let Gi taste his blood when she asked, thus giving her another type that she knew, and he taught her more about marine life, having been a fisher and were-shark his whole life. Unfortunately, Alaina did not approve. This let to that and suddenly, Gi was face-to-face with something that reminded her of how she had died: they had been out walking, Alaina had turned a corner and saw a man forcing himself onto a woman. Something in her mind snapped and when she came back to herself, she was covered in blood, the woman was running off screaming hysterically and the man was most definitely dead. Alaina cleaned her off and told her that they had to leave, right then, they had been seen and they couldn't stay. Gi didn't even get the chance to say good-bye to Prem, something that she was a little mopey about until the next interesting thing caught her interest. That next thing was a friend of Alaina's in Egypt who was an expert on vampires and blood. A vampire himself, he was very intrigued by Gi's ability to discern blood type after a taste, and started acquiring different types both to teach her and to test her. So long as she had tasted it before, Gi was able to discern the type with just a drop. She stayed in Egypt for years, even when Alaina went off on her own, learning and just enjoying the climate. Well, that and doing what she has been doing since she died: except for the flare up in Thailand she had learned to be discreet when it came to killing anyone she caught raping someone else, or abusing a child. Oh she killed them, drained every last drop of blood so that there wasn't a bit left to make a scene, but she never let anyone else see her do it. It was just a thing that she had to do. She happened to get a serious thrill out of doing it, true, but that was beside the point. Every man - or woman - that she killed was another one who would never hurt someone else as badly as she had been hurt again. This was her hobby as much as anything else, and she kept it up as she moved from Egypt to Greece to South Africa to Kenya to the Congo... and eventually Alaina came back for her, and they traveled across the Atlantic to the New World. Not that it was very new at this point, well into the 1900's as it was. They didn't go straight to the United States, preferring the warmer Bahamas and South America. By this point in her life, Gi was actually quite well-known in certain circles for her ability to identify blood by taste even if the person was missing, and for the general knowledge base that she had built up over the past near-century. If there was a topic that caught her interest then she learned about it. If someone gave her a case with a reason to solve it? She was all over it. This only helped her to learn more and more about the world. Alaina would come and go, and one time when she came back, they went to France. Gi loved it there and they lived together for five years, the longest time in quite awhile, and that was when Gi learned that Alaina had feelings for her past friendship and the sire-childe bond. Gi gave it a try because she did love Alaina, but it simply didn't work. Much as she tried, she wasn't attracted to women in that way. That created a fissure between them that led to Alaina leaving for the north, which Gi wouldn't do. She went to the States this time, setting up shop in Florida. Time passed, she learned new things, had a few lovers who came and went, took care of people when the situation called for it, and was enjoying her life. Then an opportunity came looking for her. Some people belonging to a group called Omega who went hunting for the bad kind of supernatural who hurt people and risked exposure to the world, or something like that. Gi realized she might fall into that category, but overall... it was a good offer. A place where her knowledge could be used and where she could expand her knowledge at the same time. So, after agreeing that she wouldn't go off on her own personal vendetta's killing people she thought she deserved it, Gi joined Omega.
VAMPIRE - SOL BLOODLINE how to keep smiling when you're thinking of killing yourself As a vampire, Gi is immortal, needs blood to survive, has superhuman strength and speed and is suspectible to silver. As a vampire of the Sol Bloodline she has very specific strengths and weaknesses, such as needing the sun instead of being drained by it: Strengths: Glamours, love the sun, boosted senses (during daylight), weather sense. Weaknesses: Sun deprivation, extreme sensitivity if fae blood not ingested, weak at night, severe allergy to iron. Supernatural Knowledge: Gi knows pretty much everything there is to know - she might not know the exact intricacies or reasons for everything, but she's getting close to it. Her current supernatural 'obsession' is merfolk. She's met them before, but only dwellign in the ocean, so she wants to know why some choose to live in a lake instead, and if there's a different between freshwater and saltwater.. things like that.
