about
the brook is a slice of life community set in the fictional city of stoneybrook, connecticut, in fairfield county. we are old-school, laid back players who are focused on writing and character development, and would love to find like-minded players to join our community.
our game is more old-school than you may be used to. we don’t use journals for ic commenting – that’s what to socials community is for. if your character is the type to write in a private journal, by all means, we’d love to see it! but please, don’t spend time creating a beautiful journal if you don’t want to. it’s not necessary. we want to see who your character is by reading the action threads, not facts and trivia on their journal. we want to focus on writing, first and foremost, in this community.
stoneybrook, connecticut is a small city with a population of approximately 25,000 people. it is located 45 minutes east of stamford, on the long island sound. it is a typical small town, with decade-long feuds, high school sweethearts, casual flings, bright-eyed city transplants, and that one random dog responsible for dozens of puppies. some people love it, some people hate it, some people wonder how the hell they ended up in this mapdot town, but for everyone, it’s home.

we all know the golden rules: don’t cross the ic/ooc line, don’t godmod, don’t be a dick. if there’s an issue, please contact the mods and we will take care of it
apply
we don’t care what your username is. ideally, it would be somewhat close to your character’s name, but we know that can be difficult. we are also aware the code requirement for making new journals can make it more of a challenge. we just want cool, quality writers, so if that means you join us with a wacky username, so be it!
PBs need to be close to the character’s real age and they need to be an actual, blue tick celebrity – please, no random wannabe influencers!
no challenges, holds are good for 3 days.

to apply, please comment here with your character name, PB, a link to examples, and a blurb about your character. once approved, we will also ask for a short introduction from you. you can give us your life story, or just your name – whatever you’re comfortable with!
activity
activity, as of right now, is TBD. look, we all have lives – jobs, families, social lives, and this is supposed to be fun, not another thing to add to your list. we don’t want players to get burnt out, but we don't want you to ghost us either! we would like to strive for one action post and one socials post a month, but we aren’t going to kick you out if you’re a bit absent. we will follow up with you, and removals will be a case-by-case basis. if this changes, we will give you plenty of notice.
that being said, we also do not have a character limit but if you have 2 characters sitting on the sidelines and want a 3rd, we’re going to say no. we love plotting and can help you find something for your character to do if you’re feeling stuck. character approvals after your first will also be on a case-by-case basis.
