It's not necessary to read the EU books, because it'll be mostly new canon/new trilogy based. I would love to write Jaina Solo against Poe Dameron. Jaina is Han and Leia's daughter in the EU and I think she would have been a great part of the New Canon, and I have plenty ideas to make it work. I also have a bio for Jaina based on her Extended Universe life story but also fitting into the New Canon that I will be happy to share.
