Order--STRONGLY Hexed
I think Maude Wilkes has killed someone.

She hexed an entry into her journal but wasn't specific enough and I was able to read it.

She mentioned going home to get her cat, and killing a boy who saw her.

She said he's buried "under the old mill ruins".

She also mentioned her tutor, from whom she learned "stealth and the ways of pain", but she doesn't mention a name.

There's nothing else worth noting--no names or locations.

Should I pass on the information the Scrimgeour or should we keep it strictly us?

That's why I brought it up. I don't know. I didn't think information coming from me would've been taken as seriously as information coming from, you know, Aurors.

Either way we go with this my name shouldn't be involved, otherwise there's no chance she'll make the same mistake again.

My feeling is it might be good to bring this to the Ministry's attention-- I was discussing some options for follow-through with Caradoc further down the page and it sounds to me like, since there aren't any great leads, it could be good to have the Ministry's manpower on it in case it turns out to be a waste of time. Do you see any potential drawbacks? My only concern would be how to share what we know, since we'll be needing to keep Caradoc out of it.

We could tell Scrimgeour that it was an anonymous tip from a witness. I'm sure he'll want to trace it, but there are ways around that.

All of her acquaintances at Hogwarts were reknown for their interest in the Dark Arts, including Evan Rosier and a few other students who disappeared during the Hogsmeade attack. I don't think it's any coincidence that they weren't killed, and returned around the same time as the first bodies. She also spoke highly of Bellatrix Black--"the finest woman in the wizarding world"--whom I fought at Hogsmeade. She's not a fine woman, anybody could testify to that. I'd wager it's Bellatrix Black who's her tutor in the art of pain.

That would make a lot of sense.

Great. Black is a psychopath, and now she's tutoring people?

Thanks for telling us, Caradoc. However we proceed, I think our first priority should be ensuring that she doesn't realise her mistake. Her carelessness is very useful to us.

Well, yes, but it would've felt rude not to thank you anyway.

Did she sound like she makes a habit of going home? We could certainly step up surveillance, but it could also be a strain on our resources without much to show for it if she never goes back again, since she's been seen. Then again, if she does, she could lead us some very interesting places. It might also be worth our while to ask around and see if there isn't anyone else who might have seen her, but I don't know how much of a lead that would give us.

And, I know. Whether through the Ministry or through the Order, I think we should try to recover the body as soon as possible. For the sake of his family.

It sounded like the first time she'd been back in a while. She was more thrilled about having her cat than anything else. Mentioning the kid was almost an afterthought. She said she was careful so no one saw her, except him, and it's clear how that turned out.

We do, absolutely. She seemed so sure no one would find him.

Alright. Looks like we need to decide whether or not we're going official with this before we can plan our course of action.

It's strange, isn't it, to think someone can love their cat, but just... kill a kid in the street?

We should set a normal course for things like this. In case information gained like this needs more urgent and immediate attention.

Yeah. It's odd to think of them caring for anything, even though of course they do.

We Aurors could access that easily enough. I wonder though if it would be worth our time to do surveillance if the fact that she just went home makes it less likely she'd be returning any time in the near future.

It's worth looking into.

[Adult Order]
Though I'd be shite at it, I can say. Maybe we should put the Hogwarts Order on it? As long as they're stuck in school, it'll still be good for them--give them something to do, at least.

Besides schoolwork which, obviously, is still important.
