PERSONALITY SICK OF ALL THE INSINCERE Astoria Greengrass, contrary to her sister, is every bit the pureblood princess on the exterior. She is, at face value, a rule follower, polite, well-mannered, well-groomed and always amenable. She knows what people in pureblooded circles want to hear and is very good at offering it to them with a well polished smile. She can navigate tricky social situations with ease, and is the picture of perfection when it comes to playing hostess. She strives to make her parents happy, and offers little resistance when steered by them in any direction. Of course, if anyone bothered to get to know her, they would be alarmed to realize her opinions differ quite dramatically from the facade she puts forth. Astoria yearns to be independent. She wants to be more than a trophy wife, and she has lofty romantic ideas, to say the least. Romance novels may be to blame, but Astoria wants love, real, passionate, throw myself in front of a curse for you love, and she's still holding out for it. She would never admit, ether, how she honestly feels about the new government and her support for the rebels who have, in her opinion, pointed out the obvious. She is extremely uncomfortable, especially, with the Ministry Rehabilitation program and the awful truth that underlies its innocent name. Word spreads quickly among society women, and the thought of their servitude makes her nauseated. She is slowly, carefully, trying to find ways to help, although this proves difficult with how easily recognizable she is (and with her undeniable need to keep her parents' approval, though she tries to deny this is as important to her as it really is). And looming over her, always, is her family's curse, a blood curse that killed her aunt so quickly it made Astoria's head spin. The disease affects every generation, and Astoria is constantly haunted by whether she or Daphne will suddenly begin to show signs, knowing that once they do, the decline is rapid, painful, and final. While her sister feels this is all the reason to avoid commitments, Astoria feels it makes them all the more important. She doesn't want to waste time on half-baked relationships. She wants the real deal while she still has the chance. And she wants to make a difference in this world before she goes. BIOGRAPHY I'M GONNA GIVE ALL MY SECRETS AWAY Astoria was born the second and youngest daughter to William and Iora Greengrass. Tori grew up with a (sometimes literal) silver spoon in her mouth. She wanted for nothing, and with her blonde ringlets and beaming smile, she was difficult not to spoil. It wasn't until after she was sent off to Hogwarts that Astoria realized that this wasn't the case for everyone, and she was surprised to realize exactly how much privilege she had compared to many of the students. Although sorted into Slytherin, Astoria found friends in many of the houses, and received a number of questioning glances at some of her choices. Although she kept close ties to many of the other pureblooded families, she also befriended many others, Muggleborns included, and she found it easy to get on with all sorts. She did well in school, earning good grades in most classes and decent ones in those she struggled with. As war began to brew, it became increasingly difficult to maintain her broad friend groups. Suspicion hung thick in the air, and when Umbridge came around and so blatantly favored her over others, it was nearly impossible to maintain both sides of the spectrum. She let herself drift toward the pureblooded regime and was among the Slytherins who opted not to partake in the battle during the battle of Hogwarts, despite knowing, deep down, which side she supported. After the war, Astoria finished her schooling as a prefect. As her family had never publically supported Voldemort, nor had they been death eaters, there were no reprecussions for the Greengrasses, and Astoria watched the political changes unfold from the safety of Hogwarts, her graduation syncing up with the alarming election of Rabastan Lestrange. Her family, of course, publically supported the new regime and reaped the rewards. Despite her mother's apprehension, Astoria went on to study to become and recently accepted a job as a mediwitch at St. Mungo's. Although her mother is not entirely comfortable with her daughter working such a job, Astoria promised to work part time and has grudgingly agreed to retire should her future husband request it of her, a promise that hasn't exactly had her keen on seeing suitors. | |||
PLOT IDEAS THIS TIME, DON'T NEED ANOTHER PERFECT LINE - Astoria is conflicted about the rebels, and is slowly trying to figure out how to help without compromising her life with her family. Eventually, I'd like her to do something a bit more dramatic to assist - I would love for a disciple to come and stay with the Greengrasses. It would give her a chance to interact with the rebels and offer some kindness - Tori is a mediwitch/nurse and it would be fun to have her healing skills come into play somehow - The family blood curse is hanging over her head, and she has no idea if it's going to suddenly affect her the way it did her aunt. It's going to cause a lot of anxiety that she'd like to be able to vent to someone! - Sister bonding with her polar opposite of a sister :) | |||
