Eastmarch
Capital: Windhelm
Jarl: Brunwulf Free-Winter
Steward: Jorleif
Court Wizard: Wuunferth the Unliving
Alliance: The Imperial Legion
Typical Weather: Snowy and cold towards Windhelm and the border into Morrowind, but has lots of volcanic terrain when you start getting closer to Darkwater Crossing. The harsh weather and strange terrain in Eastmarch makes it difficult to grow and maintain crops of any kind, so they must find and buy food from surrounding regions.
Crime Rate: Brawls and arguments happen a lot between the Nords and the Elves that live here, though the city guards usually break up those fights.
Economy: Because of the civil war and lack of crops, Eastmarch is not funded very well. There's one corundum mine in the area, but mining takes time and corundum ore is only worth about 40 Septims for two big chunks.
Eastmarch is a small Hold located on the eastern side of Skyrim. An important location pertaining to the current civil war, it is currently run by Brunwulf Free-Winter. The former Jarl was the infamous Ulfric Stormcloak, leader of the "Stormcloak army".
The city of Windhelm is hundreds of years old, and the building consists of mostly grey bricks that have been worn down with age. Weeds grow up through the cracks everywhere you look, and the city is almost like a maze though it's easy to gather your bearings again once you find the entryway. When you enter the city and go right, there's a large door that leads to the docks, where you will see an array of Argonian workers.
Ulfric Stormcloak believes that Skyrim belongs to the Nords, though Skyrim used to be the native home of the Snow Elves before they were driven out by Ysgramor's "Five Hundred Companions" after the Night of Tears. Originally, the Imperial Legion tried naming Ulfric's group of followers the "Stormcloaks" to be condescending and mock Ulfric's extremist views, but Ulfric refused to take the name as an insult and stole the name for his army. Many in Skyrim know that Ulfric Stormcloak is responsible for the recent death of High King Torygg.
What most people don't agree on, however, is the cause behind Torygg's death. Ulfric claims he challenged Torygg to a fair battle to the death, though many are adamant in that Ulfric killed Torygg in cold blood. After Torygg's death, Ulfric fled to Eastmarch where he knew there would be no bounty on his head. Ulfric claims he wants to fight for Skyrim when the Empire was too weak, but the others claim Ulfric murdered Torygg in a selfish quest to become High King of Skyrim. The latter is something General Tullius of the Imperial Legion strongly believes in.
After the events of the Peace Council with the Dragonborn at High Hrothgar, the Civil War came to an abrupt end in the Imperial Legion's favor. With Ulfric out of commission, Brunwulf Free-Winter was appointed as the new Jarl of Windhelm. He is more inclined to listen to the needs of the Dunmer citizens of Windhelm and is working to make improvements to the Grey Quarter as soon as funds can be secured to work to this goal. It will not be an easy feat, but he is doing the best he can with what little he has.
