Please work, please work, please work… kept running through Marty's head as he sped towards the wire Doc had rigged up - that would soon be struck by lightning. Oh boy.
He glanced at the alarm clock and then the speedometer, wiping sweat from his brow as the clock tower came into view.
Here goes nothing. Marty pressed his foot down and felt the car speed up. At the same time he glanced to the right and saw…
"Doc."
The man was doing something with the connection but Marty had no time to dwell on that, or that stupid letter, when the DeLorean hit 88mph and everything began to tremble and get very bright.
Marty squeezed his eyes shut and repeated please work before he felt the car's tyres skid beneath him.
"Whoa!"
He tightened his grip on the wheel, twisting it and stamping on the brake, at the same time yelling as the car skidded towards a wall.
It stopped just before impact
"Holy shit. That was close."
