Most remember Gregory Goyle as dumb, oafish, and obedient. And in so many ways, they wouldn't be wrong. Yes, Greg Goyle lacks academic smarts. That was no surprise, not even in school, but that doesn't mean he was completely inept. Greg was smart in his own ways, particularly when it came to survival. A lasting trait of Slytherin is self preservation, after all, and Gregory did the best so he could just to stay alive, even if it meant mastering some of the more fucked up dark arts. In his early years, it was so easy to cling to Crabbe and Malfoy in order to find some sort of normalcy. Even acceptance. He was happy to follow the status quo, simply so he didn't have to be alone. Or be stuck with his father. But as he grew older, as the war came to boil over, he realized that one couldn't always hide behind fear for his own hide.

Really, if one wanted to know Greg's true nature, it is much softer than normally portrayed. Sure, Greg definitely is easy to anger. That pure hatred for himself, for his father, for what he did to people for so many years, always bubbles beneath the surface. Greg constantly has to ask himself if he is truly a man, or the monster he finds himself to be. He hurt people, and is still capable of hurting people. His strength has never abandoned him, and the rage bubbles so close beneath the surface. But Gregory fights it nowadays with everything he has. He doesn't want to live on rage, on hatred, on compulsion. He wants to believe that maybe, if he tries hard enough, he can be a better person. He's withdrawn into himself a lot because of this, and rarely reaches out to anyone beyond his inner circle.

Because really, what most people don't know, is Greg grew up being a total nerd. He found solace in muggle media and comic books. He always likened himself to the Incredible Hulk, a man ruled by his emotions, by his power, but always trying to be something more, to be better than the monster everyone saw him as. Of course, this passion had to be hidden, especially from the cruelty that he grew up with. But it sparked a passion for trying to be a better person, and what's more than that, it awakened a creativity in Gregory Goyle that many would not realize exists. While he sucks with words, and most action, he actually isn't so bad when it comes to expressing himself through some sort of creative media - especially drawing. Though of course, he's too embarrassed to share that with the world, hiding away his true passion.

Instead, he's more than happy to maintain the idea that he is an idiot, a fool. It's easier for people to see him that way, and he doesn't blame them. He has so god damn much to atone for, and he doesn't feel that he'll ever truly get there. But there are at least the people in his life who see him for who he is, at least a little bit, and accept him. To him, those individuals are the world. He would fight heaven and hell, no matter what the cost, if truly because deep down, Gregory Goyle can be a good man. He's strong. He's aware of his reality. And for all intents and purposes, he's a realist. Perhaps that's one of his best, and worst qualities.

And while he's spent years running, he's tired of that. Eventually, everyone has to face who they truly are. Which is why even though every fiber of his being told him not to, he returned home. He needed to see his mother, his best friend, and everyone he cared about. He had to acquaint himself with the situation everyone found themselves in. And while it's surprisingly decent for him, he's not sure if this is the right way to go. But the last time he tried to question anything, he ended up with broken ribs and a black eye, so he keeps those opinions under wraps.
appearance
HEIGHT: 6'2"
WEIGHT: 212 lbs
HAIR: Brown
EYES: Brown
While he's certainly slimmed down in his later years, Greg is still a decent sized man. He's taken care of his body, and it shows in his lanky, yet muscular figure. He's usually seen sporting some kind of facial hair, and his style is very eclectic. He enjoys experimenting with clothing, and some of his fashion choices can be seen as odd. But he doesn't particularly care about the opinions of others.

history
Gregory Goyle was the only son of a very violent man, who more often than not, took that anger out on his son. His son, who he always took issue with. Not smart enough, not strong enough, too fat, too ugly. Quite simply, from birth, Gregory was not enough. Though there is sufficient evidence to suggest no child of Goyle Senior ever would have been good enough for the impossible man.

For the most part, Gregory's formative years were wrought with abuse, both physical and psychological. However, it is important to note that his mother was his saving grace during that time. She wasn't afraid to put herself between her husband and her only son, though she would never find the strength to truly leave him. It was her own fault, as she was positive any attempts to leave would lead to her and her sons ruin in society, or even worse, their utter disappearance from the face of the planet. For the most part, Gregory learned how to avoid his father, which wasn't too difficult, as he was gone a lot. During those times, Greg and his mother formed a deep bond, and he truly loved her more than anything. She even gave into his... muggle interests, under the strict promise he would never open his mouth to his father.

By the time he was of school age, Greg had quite the collection of comic books, the Incredible Hulk being his absolute favorite. It pained him to leave these things behind, but he highly doubted he'd get away with his interests at school. No, instead he took to Hogwarts and was immediately drawn into the Slytherin fold. Greg had known Draco Malfoy and Vincent Crabbe before school, and was told directly by his father that these were the only types he should find himself associating with. For his own preservation, he followed those orders.

However, it wasn't a bad thing. Draco was a brilliant boy, even at a young age, and Crabbe... well, he understood a lot of Gregory's situation as well. They were his confidants, and his closest peers. Most know that in school Greg was a brutish, stupid, mean individual. He played the part of protector and enforcer, just as he was told. He never allowed anyone to get close outside of his housemates, if only for their own protection, because he knew their friendships wouldn't be accepted by his father. Soon, he lost sight of who he was, and became someone he hated. He was apathetic to hurting people, and he made his decisions based on what he was told, not what he wanted. This continued for years, up until the dark lord finally returned, much to the excitement of his father. And still, Gregory played his part. Until the Battle of Hogwarts, anyway. As the dust settled in the wake of the war, he was no where to be found.

Gregory lost himself in the muggle world for years, avoiding contact with his father, continually moving around. He was homeless for a while, but was helped by the kindness of strangers, and was able to pull himself back up and onto his feet. He worked a number of odd jobs. He used his hands. He sweat. He gave his heart into projects and to people. He even found a job working in a comic book shop, which was one of the few times he had ever been so happy. But he couldn't run forever, and while he was gone, he never fully broke contact with his mother, or with Draco. He got word when her health began to decline, but still refused to return home.

Soon after, his father was sent away, and he finally decided to return at the prompting of his mother. He only got to spent three days with her before she died. It is something Greg will still never forgive himself for - missing out on so much time. Soon after, he received word that his father had been killed, and the estate and fortune was his. He promptly sold everything, and no one is certain what happened to the money. He prefers to keep it that way, as in his eyes, the entire fortune is blood money anyway.

After being gone for so long, it was hard to understand the changes the Magical Community had undergone. The system that was put into place. It was easy to see how wrong it was, but once again, Goyle chose self preservation over anything else. He is aware he is in a good position, even if he doesn't have the best job, or the nicest home.

He reunited with Draco as well, rebuilding their friendship. He still has a lot of guilt over being gone for so long, and missing so much, but he needed the time away to really find himself. To get a handle on his anger, and to figure out who Gregory Goyle truly was. He's been working a number of jobs that most would find beneath him, but he considers it honest work. And he tries desperately to stay out of politics, though there are forces that are trying to draw him back in, if only for his brute force and skills with dark magic. For a time, he lived alone, but most recently has decided to move in with Draco Malfoy in order to alleviate some financial burden.

When he's not working, he's been secretly working on his own artwork, still finding passion and love for comic books, and the idea of super heroes. He realizes in this regime it's a pipe dream, but that doesn't stop him from indulging. He tries more than anything to keep his head down, but if that is entirely possible, he isn't sure.
