Name: James “Bucky” Barnes Age: 26 Played-by: Sebastian Stan Fandom: Marvel Link to character's canon history:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bucky#Film Canon point or description of AU: the point at which Bucky fell from the train
Why did they wish to be somewhere else at this point in their life? He was falling, probably to his death, leaving behind his best friend, the one he’d always sworn to protect, and feeling he was a failure in doing so
Personality: Bucky Barnes is a stand-up guy, the kind that would give you the shirt off his back, or beat up the creep that's threatening to hurt you. He has a very generous and loving personality, and a strong sense of justice. He doesn't stand by when the strong attack the weaker, and he doesn't stay quiet just because other people think he should.
When there's a job to be done, Bucky volunteers to do it. He's patriotic and true blue to his friends, particularly Steve Rogers, whom he's known since he was knee high to a grasshopper - well, since Steve was. He knows how to take orders, but he also knows when it's time to change with the situation, because sometimes those in command, who aren't there, can't always see the big picture.
Bucky's good looking and he knows it, and the women have always come easy, a trait he's tried to share with Steve with little success. He's not stuck up, but he's very self-confident, from years of success with the fairer sex. He loves the girls and they love him. At the same time, he's also a man's man, and feels equally at home in the barracks or hanging out in a pub with the guys.
Strengths: Bucky is strong, loyal, and solid. He has great survival instincts, a born soldier. He excels at hand-to-hand-combat and martial arts, as well as marksmanship and knives. He can lead or he can follow orders, depending on what the situation requires. He is brave, thoughtful, and considerate. He keeps his head when all around him are losing theirs. He's a good friend, and he's considerate of women, protective of them. He is also fluent in many languages, including English, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Russian, and Japanese. He can understand French. Weaknesses: Sometimes he allows his emotions to cloud his judgment when it comes to his friends, which gets him into difficult situations. He has a blind spot when it comes to Steve; there isn’t anything he wouldn’t do for him. And sometimes he holds on to the past too hard, seeing the way things were, not how they are. Likes: Steve Rogers, women, his duty, his country, having fun, drinking, his friends, dancing Dislikes: bullies, liars, enemies of his country, vegetarian meals
Skills/powers: hand-to-hand combat, martial arts, marksmanship and knives – Bucky is a born soldier. He has the power to charm the pants off of women
Inventory: his uniform his Colt 1911-A1 K-rations a bedroll a bottle of bourbon
First person sample (must be for the character you're applying for): He’s such a stubborn son of a bitch. That’s what I both admire and hate about him. Because Steve Rogers just does not know when to give up. And yes, he doesn’t know the meaning of the word quit.
But damn, sometimes he’s just such a bonehead.
I don’t think he’s weak, far from it. But the Army does. That’s why they made him 4F. You can’t fight that with a stick. I know it’s killing him. I also know he’s not mad ‘cause I made it and he didn’t. But he’s got that look in his eye. The one that says he’s going to do what he intends to do, no matter how long it takes.
Or how many fake names and birthplaces he’s gotta use to do it.
Steve Rogers is not only my best friend, he’s the best goddamn guy I know.
Third person sample (may be any character. Not required for second characters.): (taken from a psl, in which Anne plays the part of Steve Rogers and I play Bucky Barnes) The woman was a looker, of that there was no doubt. One that was right up Bucky Barnes' alley. Stacked too, with curves in all the right places. His eye coasted along her form like an enemy sub hugging the coastline. He knew all the right words, made all the right gestures - he had it all down pat a long time ago. Bucky loved women and they loved him back.
So why was this one ignoring him in favor of Steve Rogers? That was something that had never happened in the history of their acquaintance, going back to the days when they were both orphans, hanging out on the streets. So why was it happening now?
Was there something wrong with him? Common sense told him no, but reality told him to think again.
He took a seat the bar, by himself, waiting for Steve to do whatever he was going to do with her - if anything. He could have rejoined the rest of their group. He could hear them carrying on behind him, rowdy and happy, everyone of them. But he didn't want to bring down their mood. Or answer any questions, especially since the questions they were likely to ask were the ones he couldn'tanswer.
He wasn't mad at Steve, far from it. He was actually proud of him. Like watching your firstborn child take his first step. He only wanted the best for his best friend.
But how was it happening at such a high cost to himself?
Stunning was the word Steve would use for her. He'd already told her she was beautiful (in the most awkward way possible), and now he couldn't say a word. Professional soldier he was, but he was still a man (who also took the opportunity to take in the sight of her out of her uniform... relatively speaking).
Like Bucky he drank in her appearance, but he said not a word when his best friend turned on his charm. Normally it worked, but her eyes had never left his own blue ones, and when she said she was waiting for the right partner his face softened even more. She had listened, and it gave him no small thrill. He spoke only when she reminded him of his appointment with Mr. Stark and watched her vanish from the room with all the bearing of an officer.
Wow.
He turned back to the bar and saw Bucky there already, and he clapped his hand on his friend's shoulder as he took a seat as well. "Agent Carter," he said, not remembering that he had called her that upon her entrance and that Bucky probably already knew that. "She was one of the people who chose the candidate for the program, and the person I answer to besides Colonel Phillips," he explained as he lifted his glass.
He looked to Bucky who seemed awfully quiet, and he lowered the drink from his lips. "Something wrong?" he asked; years of friendship told him this might be a passing thing or it might be a need to talk- probably the former, but Steve had to ask.
"Wrong? What could possibly be wrong? Other than the fact we're fighting a war against madmen?" He forced a laugh he didn't quite feel, turning thoughtful quickly. His mind just couldn't grasp the enormity of what had just happened.
"Tell me something, so I know I'm neither hallucinating or sleepwalking..." Although either would be difficult to do in a pub this noisy, their boisterous comrades close at hand, lending credibility to the situation, other than what had just occurred. "Did that beautiful woman just... reject me for you?"
Bucky meant no offense in his assessment, and knew none would be taken. They'd known each other far too long, had been through too much to be less than honest about what they thought. But this was the unthinkable. This was something that had never happened before. Ever.
And Bucky wasn't quite sure how he should deal with it.
The question was surprising and Steve actually felt his face warm just the tiniest bit at the idea that she might have rejected Bucky for him, but that really wasn't quite what happened.
"Well, I wouldn't say that," Steve started as he looked back to the door she had last walked through. "She's not here with me, is she?"
His smile left just as quickly as he realized- she was probably dressed for a night on the town with Stark. A night of celebration, perhaps, and the warmth he felt a moment ago faded away.
"I think I know who she is out with," he continued as he took a sip of his drink, "and I know where she isn't." He set the glass on the counter and moved to hold it with both hands as he turned to smile at Bucky. "Looks like she turned us both down."
