Current music:Garth Brooks - Friends in Low Places

It reminds me of a brief moment of happiness spanning a few summer nights a few years ago
Blame it all on my roots
I showed up in boots
And ruined your black tie affair
The last one to know
The last one to show
I was the last one
You thought you'd see there
And I saw the surprise
And the fear in his eyes
When I took his glass of champagne
And I toasted you
Said, honey, we may be through
But you'll never hear me complain

'Cause I've got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases my blues away
And I'll be okay
I'm not big on social graces
Think I'll slip on down to the oasis
Oh, I've got friends in low places

Well, I guess I was wrong
I just don't belong
But then, I've been there before
Everything's all right
I'll just say goodnight
And I'll show myself to the door
Hey, I didn't mean
To cause a big scene
Just give me an hour and then
Well, I'll be as high
As that ivory tower
That you're livin' in

'Cause I've got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases my blues away
And I'll be okay
I'm not big on social graces
Think I'll slip on down to the oasis
Oh, I've got friends in low places

3rd Verse:
I guess I was wrong
I just don't belong
But then, I've been there before
And everything is alright
I'll just say goodnight
And I'll show myself to the door
I didn't mean to cause a big scene
Just wait 'til I finish this glass
Then sweet little lady
I'll head back to the bar
And you can kiss my ass

Well, before I read those lyrics in your journal, I had never heard of that song. It sounds rather good. I read a book yesterday where that song was playing while the guy was being a drunken tool to his girlfriend. So, yes. Coincidence, or something. I'm glad that I had read the lyrics because it helped to understand the book.
Yes. Me, rambling again. Nice icon, by the way. It makes me laugh.

thanks about the icon... it's a quote from the new-ish show on Fox, "House, M.D."

have you heard the song yet? the first time i heard it, i was in a tiny little dark dive bar in a blue collar suburb, late at night, drinking with Dawn, a girl i was just getting to know (and had met and been friends with online), and her underage friend (who said the bartender at this place served him because the bartender couldn't tell him apart from his of-legal-age brothers).
Dawn put the song on the jukebox... it's total country-western.
the whole thing (the song, the memories, etc.) are so completely different from what i'd normally think of as "me." that's why i like it so much.

I haven't heard the song yet. Heh. The situation in which you heard the song was like the situation in the book. I'll try and listen to it.
I understand what you mean about songs giving different moods or whatever...taking you away, etc.
