PERSONALITY
Above all else, Lily Evans Potter is full of love. Love for her husband, her son, her friends, her life, her blood, her talents, herself. She is filled to the brim with love in all areas of her life, and that love manifests itself in fierce loyalty and constant support and encouragement. Love is Lily's best quality, and she fills her days with it. The love she has for others in her life consumes her, and their love for her keeps her strong and going each day. She doesn't know what she'd do without love.
Despite being sorted into Gryffindor and having many of the qualities of a lion, Lily can also be considered a hybrid. She probably could have been sorted into any of the other houses as well. One thing that defines Lily is her passion. She stands up for what she believes in, and what she believes in she believes in fully and with all of her being. She's passionate about justice and basic human rights. She wants to take a stand against injustices, something she shows continually in her life even when she has to stand up to James and his friends. She's bold and brave. She doesn't back down. She also has a fiery personality, and if people want to blame that on her red hair, so be it. That isn't going to change who she is. She is known to have a temper. Her emotions are often visible on her face. She's incredibly stubborn and doesn't like being wrong. It took her a long time to soften to James Potter and admit to herself first and then to others that maybe she had misjudged him. It took a lot of her own courage to change her mind with that respect. Some qualities that could have put her into another house include that she's hardworking and patient when she needs to be. She's incredibly bright, most notably with charms and potions, and she naturally truly enjoys learning. And Lily also has a drive to better herself and, in turn, those around her. She has ambitions of changing the world, one moment and stand at a time.
Though Lily is against injustice, she struggles herself with making rash judgements and coming to quick conclusions. She sometimes has to take a step back and re-examine a situation, which might prompt her to grudgingly admit that she'd make a mistake. There are times when her drive and beliefs are so narrowly focused in front of her that she needs a not-so-gentle reminder to think everything through. These passions and beliefs, though, put Lily as someone you want to have on your side, not against you.
HISTORY
When Lily was born, she joined her older sister, Petunia, as the two daughters of Caroline and Matthew Evans, hard-working, middle class Muggles who'd settled in Cokesworth, England. They were well-off, and both Lily and Petunia grew up not wanting for much as they attended primary school. Even from a young age, Lily stood out from her sister in both manner and abilities. She was able to do strange things -- things that almost sometimes seemed a bit like magic. It wasn't until Lily was about nine and she met a boy from the area, Severus Snape, who explained to her that she wasn't odd or strange but rather that her abilities actually were magic. She and Severus struck up a close friendship while Lily and her sister, Petunia, drifted apart.
At age 11, sure enough, Lily received a letter by regular post from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Though she'd already been doing so, she peppered Severus with question after question, spending more and more time just the two of them. While Lily was preparing to go away and learn all about magic, her older sister became more and more standoffish, taking to calling both Lily and Severus 'freaks' and ignoring them otherwise. It only got worse once Lily went off to Scotland, leaving her sister behind. At Hogwarts, Lily was sorted into Gryffindor, not Slytherin like she originally hoped alongside Severus. She joined several obnoxious, loud boys in Gryffindor House, and she had to start right off with fighting to prove herself, with her Muggle blood, as just as good as anyone else.
Lily did stand out, especially in her Charms and Potions classes. She was a brilliant witch and very talented, catching the eye of Professor Slughorn, Potions Master, and also her own Head of House, Professor McGonagall. To her chagrin, Lily also seemed to catch the attention of one of the obnoxious Gryffindor boys -- James Potter. By their third year, James was asking Lily out constantly, and she was constantly saying no. She spent as much time as possible with Severus, despite their different houses and despite his friends looking very down on her because of her blood status. But when fifth year came and Severus called her that word, everything changed. Lily had to end her friendship with Snape.
It was because he was named Head Boy, Lily likes to joke, and somehow along with that title came a strange awash of (temporary) maturity, that she finally gave in and agreed to go out on one date -- one -- with James Potter. To her surprise, she found that she actually liked him. Quite liked him. So they kept seeing each other throughout their seventh year, made easier by the fact that they were Head Boy and Head Girl together. Along with graduation came an invitation from Albus Dumbledore to join the Order of the Phoenix. Lily (and James) didn't have to think twice before saying yes.
War raged outside of Hogwarts, and Lily, as a Muggleborn, was scared. Even though James was a pureblood, their involvement with the Order made things even worse. You-Know-Who and his Death Eaters were targeting Muggles and Muggleborns and anyone else with questionable blood heritage. Despite the war, or maybe because of it, James and Lily got married this past spring after a short, spontaneous engagement. It was also, Lily believes, perfect timing, because just recently, James's parents came down with dragon pox. Lily hopes she will be able to be what James needs when his parents, who are already very old, pass.
SKILLS
Lily is a witch and her strengths are in charms and potions and defensive spells. She is also outspoken, which she considers a skill as well. Finally, she considers living with and marrying James Potter is a skill that no one else will ever be able to have, except perhaps for Sirius Black.
