PHYSICALS PB: Olivia Wilde Appearance: Lois stands 5'7 1/2" tall, with dark brown hair and blue eyes. When working, she always dresses to kill so that she can make the best and most imposing figure possible. Lois may or may not believe that clothes make the man (or woman in this case), but she will use everything to her advantage that she can. She intends to be the best, and that means looking her best. In her off time, she a little more relaxed. Jeans, t-shirts, or maybe a little dressier, depending on her mood. She jogs every morning to maintain her athletic figure and stay in shape, but it's also part of the lifestyle she grew up with. She's a military brat by birth, and old habits die hard. Luckily, some of them have good payoffs. She usually lets her hair hang long and untamed, but occasionally she puts it up or even styles it, especially when attending formal functions. Then she puts extra effort into her appearance and always makes sure she looks spectacular. She wants to make sure she isn't ignored when she wants that interview.

ABILITIES Lois isn't just a good journalist, she's an excellent journalist. A Pulitzer Prize winning journalist, as she's bound to remind you. She has good reason to be proud of that though. She's the youngest person ever to win the award, and she has a reputation for getting interviews with notoriously impossible to interview people. She's tenacious, driven, often frightening, but also passionate, caring, and a tireless crusader against social injustice. As a child, Lois travelled with her father and the military, becoming skilled in judo, karate, unarmed combat, as well as learning how to handle a variety of weapons. She is also fluent in French after living on an Army base in France for several years. Lois has no superpowers of her own, but at various points in the years since meeting Superman, she has obtained and lost various powers, including elasticity, the ability to control insects, and Kryptonian super powers.

PERSONALITY Lois is a woman with something to prove, maybe to the world. Raised primarily by a father who would have rather had a son, and made no bones about expressing it, Lois grew up constantly trying to live up to his expectations and desires. Finally deciding that the only person whose opinions matter were her own, Lois set out to prove that - and has been doing so ever since. It's not so much that she's even looking for acceptance anymore, she's just tired of being told she can't do something, that's she's not good enough, or that anything she wants is impossible, so she if she sets her mind to it, you better believe she's going to find a way to do it. Lois wants to make a difference in this world for the better, and she doesn't care that her profession is a predominantly male one, or that she's going up against people who are powerful and influential. If there's a wrong that needs to be righted, she's not going to let anything stand in her way until she's done all that she can to bring the situation to light. While Lois comes off very tough, no-nonsense, (which she is), she is often accused of being cold-blooded and heartless as well, and these are not true. She's called Mad Dog Lane around the Planet for her tenacity, but those who know her best know that her drive comes from her passionate believe in justice and her desire to help those in need. She has a sensitive side that few are privy to, but is most evident in her dealings with Superman. She is awed by the goodness and hope he represents and it inspires her immensely. She is truly his biggest supporter, his fiercest defender, and his best friend. She's also his wife (shhh).

BACKGROUND Lois was born at Ramstein Air Base in the German state of Rheinland-Pfalz, to Sam and Ella Lane, and spent the first few years of her life in the farming town of Pittsdale, Iowa. Her father was a farmer and a retired soldier, who spent his days teaching his oldest daughter about weapons and unarmed combat, longing for a son, instead. Lois worked very hard to be a good little soldier, but her naturally stubborn nature made it difficult, and she and her father often butted heads, usually over very little. Sam had much better luck with Lois's younger sister Lucy, who was much better at following orders, and Sam used this to spark Lois's competitive streak and get her back in the game. Lois's parents divorced when she was eight and Sam rejoined the service, taking both his daughters with him. Moving from Army base to Army base, Lois spent her time learning a variety of skills from the soldiers they met, including learning French while they lived in France for several years. It was in France that Lois first began to run away, sneaking off base and into the city to see the sights and just get away from her father. She was always caught and at first, she had no intention of getting very far, but soon she found military life - and her dad - stifling. The Lane's moved several more times, finally ending up in Washington D.C., and Lois ran away for the last time. Lois had wanted to become a reporter since she was a little girl, so at fifteen years old, she left home for Metropolis and ended up at the Daily Planet. Telling Editor in Chief Perry White that she was nineteen instead of fifteen, she might have gotten away with it if her sister hadn't have tracked her down and ratted her out. But learning that Perry needed a scoop on Lex Luthor, Lois snuck into his house to get ahold of some secret files pertaining to a new project of his. Luthor caught her, but was so impressed that he not only let her go without calling the police, that he gave her the interview. Perry gave her the job and helped her emancipated herself, support herself, and get her GED in the early days of her career. His investment payed off ten-times-ten-fold. Lois worked her ass off to be the best damn reporter the Planet had ever seen. She took risks that most reporters would never dare, and quickly worked her way up the ladder until she was the top investigative journalist on the masthead. The paper was her home, and Perry much like a second father to her. Her name became well-known, not just in Metropolis, but Internationally, as well. Lois got the best stories, at home and abroad, and she chased them with a passion, earning a Pulitzer for her work. Superman arrived, heralding a shift in her career, after he saved her life and the lives of everyone onboard the aircraft, Constitution when it spun out of control, and would have crashed if not for Superman's intervention. After failing several times to get an interview with him, Lois staged an accident where her car would fall off a bridge, forcing Superman to rescue her. When he did, she finally got her interview. It was the beginning of a relationship between them that would last for years, gaining her notoriety as Superman's primary news correspondent. Although she'd made a name for herself for many years before his arrival, It was a role she was proud to have, and not because it gained her even greater fame, but because she respected and was even awed by what he stood for - all the things she most stridently fought to uphold and preserve with her own work. Though her position made her a target for Superman's enemies and caused him to have to get her out of trouble more often than not, she rarely seemed to mind. Lois was tough enough to hold her own and when she wasn't, she was always confident that Superman would soon be there, because he had never failed to do so before. However, that initial interview she's worked so painstakingly to get was not to be hers. A newcomer to the Planet appeared out of the blue and did something Lois can't stand - he scooped her. Clark Kent handed in the same story she had been working on, sparking a one-sided rivalry that made her hold a grudge against the man from Kansas for a long time. But after several years of working together, Lois learned to forgive (mostly) and... maybe not forget, but she moved on, and decided the hayseed wasn't such a bad guy after all. Eventually she fell in love with him, and after learning his secret - that he, and the other great love of her life were one and the same - and helping him protect it, the two were married.

OTHER Did you read the rules? Yes. What's the character limit? 5, 6 with villain. What would you like to do with the character? Interview people! Be present at or comment on important happenings in the game and around the word, generally make a nuisance of herself. :) How do you think the character can be integrated with the other universe? I would love for her to meet and interview and make friends, etc. with many Marvel peoples, depending on who we have. I'd love for her to become a spokesperson for mutant rights, especially. I think that would be a cause she'd feel very passionate about. |
