About
Viola Carissa Salem FULL NAME Vi NICKNAMES / ALIASES December 18 | 25 AGE | BIRTHDAY Witch SPECIES Heterosexual SEXUAL ORIENTATION Engaged to Ryder Dyami RELATIONSHIP STATUS Professional Matchmaker, Socialite OCCUPATION
First Impressions
Most people look at Viola and see unending sunshine and light. Her ethereal features only further this impression, giving her an other-worldly sort of glow that draws that eye to her.

Species Specifics
Vi loves being a witch. She's from a long lineage of impressive witches that trace their family tree back to the first witches. She's studied all aspects of the craft since she could read though since her father took more of an interest in her twin, Vi was left in her mother's care when it came to training and therefore took a path towards healing and light. Despite this, she understands there can be no light without darkness, looking to herself and her twin as proof of that. They balance each other, both personality-wise and magic-wise. Vi joined her sister's coven because of that very belief.
Personality
The term handful isn't just appropriate, it sums up Viola quite well. She is a vivacious and strong personality, which has always given her a sense of charisma most people spend their whole lives trying to achieve. Vi's never been one for responsibility when it doesn't suit her, and from a young age she had trouble expressing her emotions properly; especially when it concerned the vulnerable ones. Somewhere along the line, she began to see vulnerability as weakness instead of humanity, and decided she wasn't going to let herself be weak. Love always held a special place in her heart, though, but she learned early on that being in love was one way to weaken even the strongest person. Her tendency towards more selfish and hedonistic impulses pushed her away from that 'princess waiting for a prince' mindset she was born with, and she decided instead of being weakened by love she would help others find it instead. Viola has never really let herself experience love save for one time, convincing herself lust and affection were pretty much the same thing, and just the experience of finding love and feeling how weak it made her feel scared her enough to shut down the emotions she'd opened up to. Her confidence has always been high, and she was able to push the heartbreak to the back of her mind; or so she thought.

Her bond with her sister has always been strong despite their differences, and while Ophelia was always more responsible than she, there were moments she showed her true intelligence and compassion. It's hard to take Vi seriously sometimes, though if she really wants to be listened to then she'll make sure people pay attention. She's cunning and manipulative without being cruel, but definitely doesn't let anyone else get in the way of what she wants. All of which is a cover for the emotions she can't seem to accurately express and so cause her turmoil everyday; all of which cover the heartbreak she feels constantly once she realized she lost the one thing that ever really mattered. Losing [NAME HERE] hurt more than she'll ever tell anyone, and it's the most frightening thing she's ever realized. She finds it difficult to try and express her emotions or deal with them and not shut herself down, and it's almost exhausting trying to get her to change in this regard; though Vi really is trying. Even now, after having found him again, she can't seem to shake the old habits. It just hurt too much when he was gone and that kind of power over her is frightening (at least in her mind) But hey, it's love.

Most see her as powerful, enigmatic, and incredibly outgoing. They know Viola is a love doctor, having an eye for chemistry and an inability to be ashamed of expressing herself, so there are many people who come to her with their problems. She says what's on her mind almost always, though being raised in the prestigious family she was has taught her how to be political and keep up a good front at all times. Vi is the more wild of the twins, and she can definitely be a walking bundle of contradictions and unexpected surprises. She excelled in school and can swindle with the best of them, but then you can catch her twirling in the rain or singing along with the radio without a care in the world. Everything is on Vi's time and whims in her mind, and she is often late for things without realizing as punctuality isn't high on her list of things to focus on. She is a fan of the unexpected, but also knows when to be the proper and poised lady (though that part of her is always there whether she's playing it up or not).

A natural flirt, Vi has a way with people. Where her father and sister use the coolness and emotional inability to their advantage in other ways, Vi is all about interacting with others. She may not ever tell you how she's really feeling or confess deep fears and secrets to many, but she can make almost anyone feel comfortable. There is almost always a smile on her face, though most know Viola isn't a sweet and innocent little thing. She loves attention, loves affection, and is a fan of the idea of love; just not all the hard parts that go with it. Everything is fun so long as nobody asks too many personal questions, and Vi tends to close up and turn on the ice if she feels someone is digging too much. Her temper can be quite vicious if she's crossed, and most know not to piss her off or risk the vengeance that is sure to follow. She's a force to be reckoned with, especially when her talent for music comes into play, and it's next to impossible to figure out all the sides Vi has to offer; especially since only a select few get to see her completely stripped of all masks and walls, and therefore don't see the unique and beautiful gem that she hides beneath the facades and poise and flirtation.

Viola was raised in privilege, and with that comes etiquette lessons. She carries herself with straight as an arrow posture everywhere she goes, and seems to make it look smooth and relaxed rather than stiff. Viola's style is decidedly feminine, just like her. She dresses fashionably, in designer labels that are always well put together; never mismatched or disheveled. It's not uncommon to see a variety of looks on her, though everything is chic and girlish without being frivolous. Her voice is feminine, rich, with a silky smooth velvet quality.
Backstory
Ophelia and Viola weren’t born into a fairytale romance. Their parents weren’t madly in love. Their father Vance Salem had set his sights on their mother Carissa because she had been his brother’s first love. And he had to have anything his brother had. And while the girls weren’t privy to all the drama that came before them they managed to find out most of it when they were older.

The twins weren’t treated equally. Often they were split up, each parent taking one. Vance was a powerful dark warlock, one that had joined The Hellfire Club in his early twenties and rose quickly up the ranks becoming one of the rare titled acolytes in the uppermost level known as The Hierophant. Early on, he had seen the more gentle and softer side of Viola and decided she didn’t have what he wanted for his prized heir. That didn’t mean he had no use for her, just that she was more of a pretty face, a pawn to be used and manipulated. She didn't understand this at first, though she was not stupid and therefore noticed her father seemed to favor her twin. He was curt with Vi, barely speaking to her much less spending time with her. It hurt, obviously, though she always had her mother to fall back on. Carissa was the light to Vance's dark, a prisoner to the whims of a very nefarious man just like the girls were. Vi didn't understand that part until she was much older but her desperation for her father's approval and love would ultimately shape all of her relationships going forward. (Daddy issues anyone?)

Both girls were taught all the things any elite upper class girl should know and were expected to follow his rules. Their mother wasn’t much help in that department, clearly thinking her husband knew best or afraid to question him entirely. Ophelia quickly took on the role of "older, protective sister", becoming the one in charge thanks to her favor with their father. Vi never begrudged Ophelia for that, in fact she came to rely on her sister in a lot of ways. She would often go to Ophelia rather than their mother for advice, at least with everything outside of love. It was from Carissa that Vi inherited her love of fairytales and her belief that she'd one day find her prince that would sweep her away from this hollow life. When she finally found it in [NAME HERE], however, all she could hear was her father's voice telling her what a witch of her upbringing should and shouldn't do. That included fraternizing with anyone who was not a witch. He was an elitist in the extreme and it spoiled the love she felt as Vance's poison continued to seep into her mind. Eventually, she broke things off, feeling like a piece of her heart was being ripped out but too scared of her father to do anything else.

Even when it was time for college she wouldn’t escape him: not since he was the deputy headmaster and a professor at Mystic Veil, which happened to be run by his hated brother. The twins would discover later that their father had murdered his own father thinking he’d get the school as he was older- but the old man had left it to his younger son, seeing something dark in his oldest son that he couldn’t trust the school to him. As the revelations about her father kept coming- she found out he’d murdered not only his own father but his brother Ciaran’s wife Scarlett in an attempt to break his brother. The levels Vance would go to knew no bounds and the girls weren’t safe from his machinations either. Vi knew this deep down in her soul but kept herself in denial for a good amount of time, not wanting to admit that such a monster had been living with them their entire lives. She couldn't match what she was hearing with someone that a woman as elegant and kind as her mother would marry. It couldn't be true....could it?

It was at Mystic Veil that Vi ran into [NAME HERE] again. She tried to resist, tried to remember all the reasons she'd had for breaking things off, but it was useless. The two got back together officially, something she knew her father would hate. [NAME] was a shifter, possibly the one species her father despised above all others. Vance had very specific plans for his perfect pureblood witch daughters and being with anyone who wasn’t a warlock with good bloodlines was not in the cards. Vi knew this but decided she wasn't giving up her love again. She managed to hide it for a year before her father found out. The fallout was worse than she'd expected but she never could have imagined the lengths he would go to in order to bring both she and her twin back to heel.

At first it was accidents or close calls to both young men. Ophelia told her that it was their father's doing but Vi couldn't accept that. She knew her father was strict, was harsh, but hurting people? Surely that wasn't possible. She'd know.....right? Choosing to push the thoughts aside, Vi focused instead on her newfound happiness, even accepting [NAME'S] proposal of marriage. The two planned to get married in secret, somewhere that her father couldn't find them in order to object, and then planned on running away together. Vi hated the idea of leaving her sister but knew she couldn't stay under the tyrannical rule of Vance Salem. She and her love made a plan, set and fool proof, but their escape was not meant to be. Vi discovered she was pregnant, an accident that she immediately considered a happy sign from the universe that they were on the right path. She and [NAME] were ecstatic, despite Ophelia trying to convince her to get rid of the baby. Vi refused, knowing she wanted this with [NAME] despite all the things working against them and believing this baby was a sign she was on the right path.

Oh how wrong she was.

The couple was out on a date when a car swerved through a pedestrian only portion of the town, heading straight for [NAME]. Without thinking, Vi pushed him out of the way, using her magic to make sure he moved further. Unfortunately, that put her in the path of the car instead with no time to dodge. The hit nearly killed her, leaving her with several scars, but also took her baby from her. Vi was devastated, the guilt nearly as painful as the injuries she'd sustained. It was then that she finally believed everything Ophelia had been trying to tell her, when she finally realized her father needed to be stopped. Despite this revelation, she didn't know where to start, and the grief over losing their baby clouded any ability to think of a way out. She holed herself up with [NAME], not realizing what Ophelia promised their father to protect her from any future attacks. If she'd known, she would've refused to let her twin do it, though deep down she knew there'd be no stopping Ophelia when her mind was set on something.

Watching her sister's own happiness explode was nearly as painful as losing her child, but there was little she could do to help. And eventually, accidents started happening to [NAME] again, making her paranoid and on edge all the time. When Ophelia told her everything she'd discovered and revealed her plans to bind their father's powers, Viola was on board. She'd stopped talking to either parent by that point, though the loss of her mother was a wound she knew would never heal. As much as she loved Carissa, a part of her blamed her mother for what had happened to her baby too. She never tried to stop Vance, never tried to help the children, and that was something Vi couldn't get past. She supported Ophelia going to confront their father, not even batting an eye when the conflict ended with their family home up in flames with her father inside. Good riddance.

With everything settled, she focused on moving on with her life, deciding to open her own matchmaking firm with the inheritance she received. It wasn't strictly necessary but Vi didn't want to just sit around idly, not when she could help others find love like she had. She and [NAME] chose to have a long engagement, both pursuing things and trying to recover from the tragedies they'd endured. Eventually, she moved to L.A., following her twin and figuring it was a great place to really get her business off the ground. It's become a city she absolutely loves and Vi is pretty sure she'll never want to leave.

Miscellaneous
Facts
  • Typical scent: A touch of lavender, a sprinkle of rose, swirled with a honey-strawberry scent that comes from her shampoo.
  • Has a pet cat named Titania. Titania is a Persian cat with an exceptionally sleek coat and brilliant green eyes. She is an extremely vain animal, and is entirely snobbish when it comes to humans. Usually she can be won over by affection, praise, or treats...though you have to know how to work her if you want her on your side. The only person she truly adores and obeys is Viola, and she will curl up in her mistress' lap all day if she could.
