Personality
If sorrow were incarnate its embodiment would be Louis. From grief he was born and in grief he lives on century after century. Tragic romantics are an echo of his broken nature. It was his glittering misery and self-destructiveness that first enthralled Lestat and ultimately led to birth as a vampire. Pain has a magnetic quality in this individual.
He is unique amongst his kind for retention of humanity unseen in other immortals. While most vampires are at peace with killing--- indeed, some enjoy it--- the guilt and abhorrence of death has never dimmed for Louis. Each snuffed life hangs heavy on his heart. Though with time he has ceased to loathe his nature there will always be a weary sadness shadowing him like cobwebs in a neglected room. No wrong he commits is ever forgotten or forgiven. The same is not true of his feelings toward others, however. Louis is quite tolerant and has never held a grudge no matter the severity of the crime. Perhaps this stems from his masochistic streak or maybe he simply does not find undying anger worth keeping. This is not to say he cannot be happy. There have been treasured cycles of contentment in his long life. Whatever Louis feels, be it pain or pleasure, he experiences with a vivid keenness a human can scarcely imagine. Love can be near fatal and is always consuming. It is unwise to harm anyone that he cares for as he is very protective; revenge will be swift and devastating. So powerful are his emotions that Louis has a tendency to become so focused he is lost to all else. Whether he is staring at something beautiful, embracing a loved one, or pondering a thought, it is sometimes necessary to physically shake him back to reality. Outwardly Louis’ manner is retiring and docile. Ever the gentleman, his manners are refined and constant. When speaking there is a notable poetic rhythm to his turn of phrase. Mortals generally receive the impression that he is out of time despite his living up to date. He does have a quiet sense of humor, however, which is subtle but wicked. It takes considerable power to rouse him to anger. Lestat is one of the few beings who can wind him that tightly. Generally, Louis suffers in poignant silence.
