Cause there's music in the air
And lots of loving everywhere
So give me the night
Give me the night
NAME: Ciara Byrne
TITLE: The Siren BIRTHDATE: May 1900 (25) SEXUALITY: Pansexual NATIONALITY: Aurellian, Searu caste AFFILIATION: Neutral, with sympathetic feelings towards the Resistance - she's lost too much to see the benefit to a complete Clovennian takeover. HAIR: Auburn, long and wavy EYES: Green HEIGHT: 5'5" BUILD: Slim MARKINGS: A gold ring as a sign of her faith, no tattoos or other marks on her body aside from a small birthmark on her left hip. They don't know what they're doing to me, keeping me from flying. That's why I say that I don't know why the caged bird sings You know how some people say "knock knock!" before entering a room? Yeah, Ciara didn't need to do that. She could imitate noises like knuckles rapping on wood with ease, and her whistling sounded like birdsong. Telephones are not prominent in Glynn, so Ciara was never presented with the opportunity to deceive people with her gift. It is not something she would be inclined to do, but it used to be fully within her capability to affect the exact voice of anyone she had ever come into contact with. Ciara never needed formal singing lessons. She simply listened to what sounded good, and went from there. People were drawn to her like moths to a flame, and Ciara wouldn't have had it any other way - she loved the attention. A few simple words could cut someone to the core or turn them to jelly at her feet, it was all about the sound of things and much as what was actually said. WHEN ENHANCED: Ciara dearly wishes for any opportunity to have her powers enhanced back to their former level. She is bound, so there is no telling what her powers would have grown to without the interference of Faidoux. Any return to her former glory would be seized without hesitation. UNDER FAIDOUX: She is bound. While she's totally okay with being tied up in the bedroom, having her powers bound is a completely different story. Ciara can still sing, and not too badly at that. But it sounds horrid to her ears now, and she is no better than anyone with a modicum of talent in that regard. She can still imitate simple sounds, but Fade has rendered her unable to mimic more complex things like birdsong, and has left her too conscious of the difference in her abilities to perform on stage. Now that she is undergoing treatment, Ciara finds it difficult to mimic another person for long. If she is feeling petulant, she can repeat someone's words back to them in a credible and mocking imitation, but anything more than that is asking too much. She is still able to pick a tone that will run through to someone's core, but any attempt to copy someone's voice for long sounds cartoonish and forced. Depending on the formulation of Faidoux on any given round, Ciara can feel the general dull of her powers, or it can be much worse. Her voice is generally more husky on the day or two after a dosage, but a lot of patrons are into that. LIMITATIONS: Her gift never extended to an ability to mimic actual music. She can affect an accent so completely that it is indistinguishable from a native speaker's, but doing so for more than a few hours will leave her with a sore throat and a lasting dull headache. The rush she got from singing used to lift Ciara up when extended use of her power left her feeling drained, but she does not get that same boost from being a bed mate unless she has a close connection with the other person. She has an instinct for picking the right tone and words to make her mark. Powers along the lines of healing can physically affect another person, but her gift doesn't allow her to force someone to do something they do not wish to. So if Ciara is really set on a goal, she will accomplish it the old fashioned way - through artful manipulations that have the person thinking they came up with the idea themselves. Your heart beats double time, another kiss and you'll be mine. A one-track mind, you can't be saved.'Cause baby your love is all you crave. Being from the Searu caste means Ciara is used to most thinking that they are above her. The fact doesn't bother her because the feeling is entirely mutual. You can't be cunning if you are stupid, and if someone is going to assume Ciara is less than she is by the nature of her birth, she will let them - it is far easier for her to get her way when she is underestimated. Having a pretty face without much formal education makes for the assumption that Ciara is street smart but not book smart. She is clever though, and will absorb any information she can. Maybe not for the right reasons - Ciara doesn't have a thirst for knowledge so much as a thirst to improve her station in life. Whether it be from the influence of her power or her instinct for reading and manipulating people, Ciara has a tendency to talk her way into situations she wants, and out of ones she doesn't. STRENGTHS Perceptive: An ability to pick up on her patron's needs is absolutely imperative to her role as a bed mate. Ciara is able to walk the line between who she really is, and who they need her to be, and rarely ever puts a foot wrong when on the job. Her pretty face belies the sharp mind beneath her facade, though few ever find that out. Manipulative: At first glance, this does not seem to be an admirable trait. But Ciara is not so self centered that the trait is employed to the detriment of others. She simply has a way of guiding people around to her way of thinking, and everyone ends up happier in the end. Patience allows her to play the long game, and Ciara is perfectly content to take her time and achieve her goals, rather than rush in and ruin her chances. Charming: No one is uneasy in Ciara's company unless she means them to be. A smile or softly spoken word is enough for most, and she is caring enough to put in the effort for those who are more reserved. Confidence has never been an issue for Ciara (except in regards to her singing ability) and her surefast belief in herself does wonders when she wants to make someone feel better about themselves. SHORT FALLS Sharp-tongued: Ciara has a knack for picking the exact right thing to say to get under a person's skin. She only tends to use this talent to forge connections with people that would otherwise not be made, but if she is upset or dislikes someone, she can say the kinds of things that stick in peoples' minds for years on end. Jealous: Avarice, thy name is Ciara. She is greedy for attention, and jealous of anyone who commands a greater amount of it than she does - she sees it as confirmation that she isn't wantednand that someone is clearly better than her, instead of acknowledging that sometimes people just have different preferences. Two-faced: Most people are convinced that she is sweet and caring, and they aren't wrong. They just don't know how she can be if she doesn't like someone - charming and accommodating around company, and then derisive and mean in private. LIKES The art of seduction, dancing, secrets and birds, although seeing a caged songbird makes her feel sad as she can relate to the feeling all too well. Games of chance bore her, but Ciara likes ones of skill and strategy, she is much better at cards and chess than most would guess. DISLIKES Ciara is quite devoted to the belief that you should keep your friends close and your enemies closer, Caden is the exception to this rule. She can mask her anger over Fade and dislike of rude Clovennians, but her jealousy proves to be too much to ignore. BIGGEST FLAW Ciara is selfish. She cares for other people but she ultimately cares more about herself, and it takes a lot to make her deviate from that. GREATEST FEAR Losing her voice. Faidoux robbed Ciara of her gift, and when the treatments are particularly potent her voice grows husky and faint. She lives in constant fear that an injection will one day render her completely mute, and death sounds like a preferable option to living life as an echo of who she used to be. Lighting up the sky, promise you that we can burn so bright. Baby if we only got tonight, we can make history The Searu caste Byrne family have long been involved in the business of selling wine, and anything else that would make them money. The stereotype about being cunning and mercenary is not there without reason. Ciara embodied those traits from a young age, but the problem only became apparent when she grew up more interested in the drinking of wine than the selling of it. Her father always disapproved of her disinterest in their family's business, but not enough to try stopping Ciara when she came of age and left home wanting to pursue her love of singing and adventure.
MOTHER Siobhan Byrne Deceased FATHER Ciaran Byrne Merchant BROTHER Malachy Byrne Merchant / part time smuggler SPOUSE Ha. Ciara loves people, but has never loved one person enough to marry them. BIRTHPLACE Her family's home in Glynn. It lacked none of the essentials but at the same time it was hardly a grand abode, and the fellow Searu neighbours were...less than reputable. CURRENTLY LIVING Her room at Antoine's. The room is furnished with pleasure in mind; both visual and physical. Dark wood, rich jewel toned fabrics and a mix of Aurellian and Clovennian art decorate the space. TIMELINE 1900 Ciara Byrne is born. Named after her father, she is the first child of her Searu mother Siobhan and Tilla-born father Ciaran.1905 Siobhan Byrne dies shortly after Ciara's brother Malachy is born. The death is hard on them all, but it is not devastating - they are hardy, resourceful people and they weather the storm together.1910 The Thrush family sell their summer home to the Belmonts. Young Ciara thinks little of this, she does not hold the same resentments toward Clovennians as her older countrymen - some of their culture is a little strange, but a lot of it is fascinating to her.1916 The Aurellian church gives up Hiraeth and its vineyards in an attempt to repay their some of their debts. Ciara is not disturbed by this - sure, the vineyards have passed into Clovennian hands, but the wine still needs to be sold. Her family's livelihood is still secured.1918 Ciaran Byrne remarries. Ciara is indifferent to her stepmother, but thankful for the help in raising her little brother.1919 Ciara is undeterred by the growing unrest in Aurelle, and leaves for the bright lights of Castyll. There is more opportunity there, more excitement, more people, and she wants it all. She easily finds work as a singer, and enjoys success (important) and continuous employment (more important).1920 Aurellian laws pertaining to castes are repealed. Caira cannot help but be glad of this - she thinks people should have the opportunity to make their own way in the world, without being consigned to preconceived notions of who they should be.1923 Faidoux is instituted. Ciara reluctantly submits to treatment without resistance, as she could devise no way of avoiding it. The effect is immediate and devastating, she is cannot cope with the drop in her abilities. Unable to bring herself to go on stage once more, even though those closest to her assure her that she still has talent, she quits and moves back home, telling herself it is only for a little while. | |
