ABILITIES / SKILLS
Cecaelia Physiology: Born of the sea, Iris's natural form is split with her upper half being humanoid female and her bottom half being noticeably an octopus. Her bottom half usually appears inky black with eight long tentacles lined with suckers and with the strength to break someone's neck if she got a good hold on them. Each tentacle operates independently and is highly dextrous, helped by the multitude of suckers. She can obviously breathe underwater and swims extremely well. In the deep dark water, her skin appears to have bioluminescent marks which helps her lure in her dinner and she has extremely good night vision. Her body is eerily flexible and can squish through any hole her head can fit through. If a tentacle is harmed or removed, she can regrow it over time.

Thalassomancy: Using the power of the seas, oceans, and other bodies of water, she can perform feats of magic. This can be as little as using the resources of the water to create charms or curses to as far as generating large, dangerous waves and undersea earthquakes. Well, she's still learning the larger bits. It's still a possibility. Manipulating water in general just comes naturally to her. Her most common magic is the necklace charm she wears which allows her to go on land in human shape, though she still has to return to the water regularly to recharge it.

Camoflauge: Iris has the ability to change the color and pattern of her skin/hair/etc at will. Underwater, she generally blends in with her environment like rocks and gravel while hunting her prey. On land, she uses it to mimic make-up and her hair color changes as it pleases often because she can't remember what she'd had it has or it reflects her thoughts and emotions. Her skin changes when she sleeps, fluctuating as she dreams.

Ink: Underwater, she can generate a cloud of ink to escape dangerous situations. This is not an ability she has access to on land. It'd be really fucking weird.

Sex-swap: Like many cephalopods, Iris has the ability to swap her sex at will. Male, female, in between, it doesn't really matter to her. Thankfully, unlike her actual animal counterpart, her dick doesn't fall off. She just shapeshifts it away. And yes, all reproductive parts work.

Design: Iris is a for-hire clothing designer and make-up artist. With all the parties and court bullshit that goes on, she is very highly in demand and always produces high-quality goods. And if sometimes, one needs an enchanted piece, she is able to provide.

FIRST IMPRESSION
When you meet her on land, she's a 5'2" ball of chaos, the queen of big dick energy. Her style and looks are her own and she doesn't dress to please anyone unless it's an act of seduction. She always wears a small abalone shell on a necklace. That same BDE translates to her octopus shape with long, intimidating tentacles. She obviously doesn't bother with clothing in the water. And she doesn't tolerate the silliness of the merfolk and sirens around her.

HISTORY
Many people come to Elphyne from other places: through doors, portals, underhill, over dale, etc. And some people are just... there. Iris was born in an otherworld ocean that was part of the ports of Elphyne. Just as the water dropped off, there they were - mers and sirens and the cecaelia and all other sorts of marine creatures. It was like having their own little section of the city that very few ever got to see.

In Elphyne's waters, Iris thrived. And if she ate too many fish to the point of a bellyache or harassed too many merpeople, she was simply precocious. But precocious only lasts so long before it becomes annoying and hazardous. After an incident with a particularly violent siren that left Iris shaken and missing at least two tentacles (temporarily), the small octopus child took up the art of thalassomancy. From there, she could protect herself from others and then, well, occasionally she took revenge. Iris got a reputation as someone who could do one some wonderful favors or someone who could ruin your life.

The first time she went on land, she was a mess. It was so much easier to walk on tentacles underwater than it was to amble about on two legs. She became fascinated with the way land people dressed, the way they painted their faces. None of those things were important in the sea. Who covered their bodies? It wasn't necessary. But these creatures adorned themselves in spectacular ways and Iris found herself playing dress-up though she was hardly good at it. She was certainly enthusiastic though.

If it weren't for Madame Lilianna Mosslight, Iris would have always been a mess but the Madame saw potential in her and took Iris under her wing. With the right kind of training, the girl from the sea became one of the premier designers in Elphyne. Anyone who is anyone has something made by Iris's hands and tentacles. And if you don't? That's just because, darling, you can't afford her.
