CHARACTER NAME: Percy Ignatius Weasley AGE/BIRTHDAY: 22 August, 1976 BLOOD STATUS: Pureblood SEXUALITY:Heterosexual OCCUPATION: Liaison for the Office of Marriage, Health, and Wellness RESIDENCE: A (rented) lovely 2-bedroom garden flat in Bath MARITAL STATUS: Married to Romilda Vane |
FAMILY MEMBERS: A ton of Weasleys; the Vane family. OTHER: Weasleys are considered part of the Sacred 28, so he’s related to kinda...everyone. PETS: Ew. None. |
APPEARANCE: Percy is tall and thin, like his father, Bill and Ron, and with the vivid red hair, watery blue eyes and freckles characteristic of the Weasley family. He wears horn-rimmed glasses, and also tries to carry himself in a dignified manner. He’d never claim vanity, but appearances are everything. Percy knows a surprisingly high amount about clothing and fashion - not because he’s interested, but because clothes make the man, afterall. He owns tastefully made, expensive and tailored button-up shirts, jumpers, (the ones from his mother are stashed away in a box) and always well pressed trousers in muted, agreeable colors. His robes are without creases the collars tastefully stiff. One wouldn’t really see him ‘dressed down’, but when he does he prefers linen slacks and a nice long-sleeve shirt. Percy carries himself stiffly, walks with authority and has an underserved sense of accomplishment. It comes off as overly confident boarding on pompous. He speaks with the British Received Pronunciation, making sure to never use his West Country accent. |
PATRONUS: A magpie - can not cast a corporeal one BOGGART/WORST FEAR: SPECIAL ABILITIES: EDUCATION: Hogwarts, Gryffindor, Prefect and Head Boy. 1987-1994 |
LIKES: Neutral colors. Organization. Books. Work. Power. His mum’s cooking. Well tailored clothing. The Ministry. Lists. Successful friends in the right places. Scrapbooking. Bird watching. Tending to his bonsai trees. DISLIKES: Pranks. Spontaneity. Laziness. Unkempt gardens. Dirt. Disorder. Tardiness. Children and animals. Excuses. Setbacks. FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Well he certainly thinks highly of himself. OVERALL PERSONALITY:Pompous Percy is a name he’s not unfamiliar with, though he scoffs as he’s clearly an ambitious person who will not let anything deter him for achieving his goals. Having recognized an unrelenting drive for success the Sorting Hat had considered putting Percy in Slytherin, but saw a complex moral code that Slytherins seemed to lack. Yes, he will stop at nothing to achieve his goals, but only if he believes in the cause. Percy will not act in a way he perceives as sneaky or underhanded. He thrives on bureaucracy and order. Tradition is important. Putting in the work to go through the proper channels is non-negotiable. Percy wants the world to be a better place for everyone - they just haven’t learned that yet. Much to the delight of the twins he would take things literally all too often. Despite his above average verbal skills he would gloss over finer details, assuming everyone else had the same amount of insight and knowledge as he. When something catches his fancy, he’s known to become obsessed with it and pay uncharacteristically attention to details. Ever the ambitious man, the dream to become Minister hasn’t been dashed since happily explaining his plans to Molly and Arthur at four years old. Despite his horror of not being crowned Minister immediately upon graduation, he stayed because he truly enjoyed the work, thriving in the bureaucratic environment of rules and regulations. Others might not agree, but he is brave. He isn’t the type to roar with the other Gryffindor lions, but stalk in the shadows where the real changes are made. To him, bravery is going against the status quo to do what is right and what is needed, even if it is immensely unpopular. He respects authority and treasures facts beyond first-hand accounts. There is no question of his intelligence: his OWLs and NEWTs proved that.. He loves to read and retains a vast amount of information no matter how mundane. He has an eye for the little details like uneven thickness of a vial or the tiniest speck of dust left on a shelf. This lack of patience for things done incorrectly makes him seem arrogant. He thinks that he's smarter, more driven and better equipped than most - why should he be punished for stating this fact? Percy does not suffer fools, nor does he have time for incompetence or learned helplessness. He’s been accused of not having hobbies, but Percy enjoys fun, thank-you-very-much. Perhaps his version of fun: chess, maintaining his bonsai trees, organizing his life, planning elegant dinner parties and reading might seem boring to others, but perhaps they’re just pedestrian. He doesn't like to be touched, especially if it's a surprise or if it's someone he doesn't know well. Jokes, abstract thinking and other sort of silliness makes him nervous. If there is one thing Percy can’t stand it is feeling out of his element. |
HISTORY: Percy never really fit in with the rest of his family. He sounded forty by the time he was four - he called his parents Mother and Father. In a cramped house full of chaos and closeness Percy kept himself neatly sealed away in his room, reading. The chaos and unstructured environment upset him, and no matter how hard the family tried to push him into being part of their world, it only grew his dislike of family activities. For years he lived on the edge, ever wary of a park from the twins or to row with his older brothers for being inconsiderate. At school he thrived in an academic environment. He could find solace in the library, and finally be around like minded, smart people, even if they were older than him. Percy secretly loved being the example and favorite to many teachers and enjoyed the special treatment he would recieve that he could never find at home. Much to the family’s surprise Percy managed to find a girlfriend in Penelope Clearwater. She’d been an easy choice: A booksmart Prefect who happened to be pretty enough to not draw the teasing of his siblings. He was hardly affectionate with her, but he genuinely cared. Through the years he enjoyed having a connection to the famous Harry Potter, even if his younger brother and Harry caused him nothing short of headaches with their antics. Try as he might to be an ideal older brother to the Boy Who Lived, Percy could never really seem to connect with him. It came as no surprise, Percy began working for the Ministry, or the seemingly immediate promotion to Bartemius Crouch Sr.'s personal assistant. Percy took over some of Crouch's official duties with gusto, and was reprimanded for not being aware of his boss' problem. How could he have known? He was told to take over his duty and didn't see why his boss would lie to him - not to mention it would boost his career. He managed to avoid damage and found himself working as the junior assistant to Fudge - he was one step closer to his goal. After the disagreement with his family in 1995, Percy moved into a small flat in Diagon Alley. With no family support and little friends outside of work his life was consumed by the ministry. Blinded by the results of his extremely long days, sleepless nights and rise through the ranks he forgot what it meant to be a human being instead of a human doing. In July 1996, Scrimgeour took power, keeping Percy close for his family's closeness to Harry, but Percy didn't see that as a problem. Despite his silent objections he even visited the Burrow, but rationalized it as he was the ultimate civil servant, doing what was necessary for the good of the country and his career. A year later the Ministry changed hands again, led by Pius Thicknesse. Life changed again inside the Ministry. For the first time in his life Percy realized he was wrong. He was not the smartest and most capable person in every room - instead his eagerness and ambition was seen as easily manipulated useful idiot to further a dark agenda. But still, he stood by the Ministry, suffering the slings and arrows thrown by his family and former friends. He wasn’t brave like his brothers, but he was useful. Staying put and feeding information to channels in the resistance. It was the most scared he’d ever been: if caught he would be killed. Worse, if others were caught they would be dead from his own carelessness. By the time the last battle happened, Percy felt as though he’d aged hundreds of years and was a shell of his former self. Something in him had died; perhaps it was his innocence. Despite mending the broken bonds with his family, the leftover wounds after the battle made him regress back to his former self. Somehow, again, he seemingly managed to sponge away the willful compliance with the corrupted Ministry and the Dark Lord by keeping his head down and working hard. He moved up the governmental ladder and had been the liaison to the Minister himself - a very important job, he would let you know - he relocated to Islington in a very nice (rented) flat, made an effort to amend the distance with family and to see his mother once a week while wearing those awful jumpers. He even dated a bit, though finding it a bit pointless. Percy didn’t want a wife and kids; they were a useless distraction. Percy was perfectly content with life before the curse. He wasn’t exactly sure how or even why, but it took hold of him. At first he felt relieved: no chance of children ever, before the realization that he would be labeled as defective set in. His siblings all managed to avoid the curse...why him? Surely being the superior Weasley this had been a mistake? Not one to fall into depression, Percy used his leverage with the Minister to bolster a deal: he would take a step back in his role and act as liaison for the Office of Marriage, Health, and Wellness in exchange for a suitable marriage. Image is important, afterall, and Percy feared his status with the curse would work against him in obtaining his goal of becoming Minister. The ink had barely dried when Romilda Vane had been selected for Percy to wed. She seemed a good enough match: while not from the best family, she made up for it with her strong support of the Ministry, well regarded approval among peers, and her desire to climb the ladder of success and power. Both understood this was a marriage for the sake of upholding an image and the success of each other. Together the two quickly created what appeared to be the perfect life with the perfect power couple. Just don’t peer too closely. |
