CHARACTER NAME: Bartemius "Barty" Crouch Jr. AGE/BIRTHDAY: 19 / 8th June 1962 BLOOD STATUS: Pureblood SEXUALITY: Bisexual OCCUPATION: Aspiring stage actor. Until then, he pushes around books at the British Wizarding Library (at least whenever he feels like it, he turns up when he wants and they're too scared of his father to tell him otherwise) RESIDENCE: Anywhere but his father's house. Pubs, hotels, the library, under bridges. Wherever the day takes him. He's bohemian and cool, OK? MARITAL STATUS: Single |
FAMILY MEMBERS: Bartemius Crouch (Father), Beatrice Crouch (Mother) OTHER: Most of the Sacred 28. PETS: A Scops owl named Owl Capone. |
APPEARANCE: ![]() Tall, fair-haired and annoyingly handsome. Barty knows he's attractive and he knows where it can get him. When not in his wizarding robes, his dress sense is very New Romantic in style (most of his clothes he shoplifts or "borrows" from theatres). Think David Bowie with an early 80's Westwood twist. He takes this stuff seriously and puts a lot of stock into his appearance - even though he's currently living in a park or wherever. Priorities. |
PATRONUS: Non-corporeal. BOGGART/WORST FEAR: His mother, screaming in fear. Terrified of him and trying to run away. SPECIAL ABILITIES: Polyjuice potions and Imperious curses are his jam. He's exceptionally good at pretending to be someone he's not, in every sense. EDUCATION: Ravenclaw '80. Prefect. Head boy. |
LIKES: Voldemort, theatre, people-watching, dark magic, fashion, his mum, overly elaborate and complicated schemes DISLIKES: His father, cowards, disloyalty, insects, being ignored, the Ministry, Christmas FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Charismatic, beautiful, well-connected and incredibly gifted. Also, very aware of these facts and thus an arrogant little git. OVERALL PERSONALITY: + Intelligent & book-smart + Creative + Daring + Observant + Good liar + Magically gifted + Charming - Sore loser - Arrogant and cocky, often underestimates people - Serious superiority complex - Ruthless - Hedonistic - Insecure - Childish and petty - Has a habit of over-complicating the simplest of tasks. If it's that important, then it should be done with style, OK? Textbook show-off. |
ROLE IN WAR: Barty is a Death Eater. He runs around causing trouble for witches, wizards and muggles - but ultimately (and more importantly) his father, the Head of the DMLE. If he gains a bit of prestige and power along the way, then even better. POLITICAL VIEWS: Barty was raised a traditionalist rather than a purist, as such he doesn't inwardly share the exact same views as his Death Eater peers. For him, people fall into one of two categories: useful or boring. But sure, he'll mess with whomever Voldemort points at because he's a team player and desperate for approval. ALLIANCE: Death Eaters. The youngest marked Death Eater, by the way. Just saying. |
HISTORY: Barty was the dotage of his mother but was otherwise ignored by his father, who was more invested in his work. No matter what Barty did, his father barely glanced his way. He learned three musical instruments, played as captain for Ravenclaw's Quidditch team, got twelve O.W.Ls, nine N.E.W.T.s, became Head Boy, was popular with his peers and professors...but still barely got a smile from Barty Senior. After graduating, Barty spent a week with his parents before arguing with his father and consequentially packing his things and leaving home - in spite of his mother's protests. If anything, her distress at his leaving only widened the rift between Barty and his father. But he sends her flowers every day as a consolation so she knows he's all right (and because she just deserves to have flowers every day, all right?). Leaving home without anywhere solid to go probably wasn't the most practical, but between friends'/lovers' houses, and B&Bs and pubs, Barty did pretty well. And even though he's spent more than a few nights sleeping rough under bridges or in one of London's many parks, he doesn't seem too bothered. Anything is better than home. At eighteen, he was introduced to a member of Voldemort's inner-circle at a particularly lively West London party where Barty was pretending to be a Daily Prophet Journalist (part of an elaborate plan). Of course, it was obvious that Voldemort was using him because of his connection to the DMLE, but soon the Dark Lord started to praise Barty for his magical gifts and creative thinking. Praise. Actual praise. Voldemort quickly became the approving father figure Barty never had, and Barty returned the favour with blind loyalty and devotion. Barely a year on, Barty carries the Dark Mark, quietly serving the cause in any way he can, whilst also gaining the occasional tidbit of Ministry intel from his old House Elf, Winky, and/or his unsuspecting mum. |
