It's not to be taken seriously. Nothing Muggle ever is! It just wouldn't hurt to have another gorgeous set of dress robes, right?
As for the going without a partner thing, it's utter rubbish, and if they start imposing that because of some nonsense American rule we will have our very own dance/party that's much better! Show everyone how British Wizards get it right!
