I don't care what you think.. ![]() PHYSICAL APPEARANCE WE ARE THE ORPHANS OF THE AMERICAN DREAM SO SHINE YOUR LIGHT ON ME Standing at a whopping 6'2", Bryce towers over most people in the room (at least at the high school). He has a classic bone structure complete with a chiseled jawline, complimented by a very shallow cleft chin, giving his face a very unmistakeably masculine edge. Like his face, there is very little that is soft about Bryce. His eyes are a bright, true blue -- a sharp edge nearly always fills them. He has brown hair that he keeps short, which has a propensity for lightening more in the summer months, if only just the front part. The more time he spends outside at sports, the lighter it will become. The highlights generally fade as soon as the winter months hit. Bryce is striking to say the least, and he knows that he's incredibly handsome. He carries himself at his full height, his posture straight and strong, his footsteps sure. He always seems to have a certain air about him of confidence, a fact that is reflected non-too-subtly by how he carries himself, as well as the flash of white in his grin. His smile is said to be dazzling, even if it never really softens the edge in his eyes. At full training weight, Bryce is 170 lbs, though for him it is somewhat harder to put muscle on because of his nature. His being an Air elemental means that he is much leaner and faster than those governed by say, Earth, who tend to be stronger. Despite this shortcoming, Bryce has worked very hard to get to the weight he is currently and he works tireless hours at the gym every week to maintain his muscular fitness. He is more toned than bulky when it comes to his muscular system, but he has fought to ensure that he is nearly as strong as he is fast. When it comes to style of dress, Bryce's wardrobe reflects the fact that his parents aren't doing too shabby and he does like to look put together. His clothes are a little on the preppy side, but he doesn't see that as a bad thing -- tailored clothes make him look so much better than off-the-rack. On first glance, his dress and carriage would indicate that Bryce was some misplaced frat boy wandering the halls of SOHS, not a second year senior. PERSONALITY I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK AS LONG AS IT'S ABOUT ME THE BEST OF US CAN FIND HAPPINESS IN MISERY Upon first meeting, Bryce is quite friendly, and most remark that he seems to be very genuine and even kind. Bryce is very good at acting like a much friendlier version of himself when he needs to -- when it comes down to it, he is downright manipulative. Call it arrogance, call it a privileged upbringing, call it anything you want. The bottom line is that Bryce is very aware of his place in life, and in society and inwardly, he is not a very nice person at all. He knows where he stands and what he needs to do to stay there. He just doesn't have the best way of showing it. Among the other jocks who are considered the "bullies" in school, Bryce is probably the worst. Yes, he is oftentimes seen as scatterbrained and flaky -- he plays that bit up to its fullest. It is the absolute truth that his mind wanders almost constantly, but he over-extemporizes this in an effort to appear harmless to those in authority. Bryce just acts dumb or clueless when the situation demands it, and the sad fact of the matter is, the teachers and other authority figures he comes in contact with believe him, wholeheartedly. What sort of person would fail their senior year on purpose? Certainly not Bryce. Or, so he would have everyone believe. Bryce can be incredibly two-faced and the only people he considers above such behavior are his friends and people in his particular circle. He fits in best with the jocks and the rich kids, seeing as his family is wealthy enough and he is sporty enough to fit into both categories. The only time Bryce really genuinely turns on the charm is around teachers and for girls. When it comes to conflict, he has a bit of a temper, though he often has to concentrate to remember what it was that made him mad in the first place. This leads him to make snap decisions about people and he tends to keep them even if he can't remember what happened that caused him to form that impression in the first place. Like most bullies, he deals with confrontation with verbal assaults to start with, and if words don't make people back down, his size usually does. And then if that doesn't work, he does resort to physical intimidation and action, though he very rarely seems to be caught in the act. Bryce uses his enhanced sense of smell and his telepathy to register who is around him -- a special kind of situational awareness. His telepathy was a huge challenge when he was younger but his learning to shield has been invaluable in his operation as a whole. Shielding telepathically helps him isolate his thoughts and have a little better control over his mind wandering, but only just. It is easy for him to play the distracted, doe-eyed air elemental when he drops his psychic shield. Around his friends and family, Bryce is easy going and even funny, almost completely at odds with the bully that he can be. He also still happens to have his Wisconsin accent, though its gotten much softer since he’s moved. HISTORY YOU CAN'T FILL YOUR CUP UNTIL YOU EMPTY ALL IT HAS YOU CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT LAYS AHEAD IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND THE PAST Born September 21, 1990 to Tyler and Libby Reynolds in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Bryce was born the youngest of two boys. His older brother was named Malcolm and he was five years older. Now, Malcolm had not really been keen on the idea of a younger brother, and so most of Bryce's early memories are of Mal bossing him around and being mean to him. Despite the fact that Tyler had a good job in a fairly successful computer software company, it never seemed like their little family made anything above middle class in terms of income. Libby was the traditional housewife and stayed home with the boys so Tyler's job was their sole income. Bryce didn't necessarily feel as though he grew up wanting or poor, but the older he got, the more he realized that other kids simply had more than he did. He wasn't very popular at school, and his home life was filled with torment from Malcolm. It wasn't at all surprising that his gifts as a supernatural were latent and troubling at first. The white noise that slowly grew into full blown images and snippets of words was confusing for Bryce, whose thoughts were already so scattered to begin with. He was diagnosed with AD/HD at an early age and prescribed medication to help him focus. The medication did indeed help, and in doing so, helped Bryce to understand that what he was "hearing" and seeing in his mind were other people's thoughts. Most of his childhood was spent learning how to focus -- curiosity really was a powerful thing in a child like him -- on the the thoughts around him until slowly but surely, the snippets of words became whole sentences. The elementalism was a curious thing. Mostly, Bryce just understood that scents and perfumes tended to bother him more than it did other people, and he was extremely irritable when his mother wore too much of her favorite fragrance as the scent was agonizing to him. Since no one in Bryce's immediate family was an elemental, his skills went untended for nearly seven years of his life. It wasn’t until Bryce’s grandfather on his dad’s side came to visit and sorted him right out. You see, Jeremiah Reynolds was a master air elemental. It was a rare gift in his family and it always seemed to skip a generation. Bryce could only really progress as much as he spent time with his grandfather. He was allowed to spend summers in Jeremiah’s home with him on the condition that he helped his grandfather with anything that he might need him to do. Bryce didn’t seem to mind doing odds and ends for him, so long as he got the lessons that his grandfather promised. As well as his training in elementalism, Bryce got a love for sports from Jeremiah. It was all over as soon as he taught Bryce that their element made them faster and more agile. The more he ran around and played outside, the more he found this to be true. He’d play catch with his grandfather just as much as they worked on his budding skills as an elemental. The two of them became very close, and for a long time, it seemed as though Bryce would grow into a kind and sweet young boy, never mind the fact that Malcolm tried to bully his younger brother at every turn. Several years passed in this way and it was clear that Jeremiah was a great influence on his youngest grandson. Still, all things must come to an end and it was found out later that year that Jeremiah had finally succumbed to the lung cancer that the Reynolds men were so at risk for. The shocking part was that he was given a life to live and he didn’t even make it to the next summer. Needless to say, both Tyler and Bryce were crushed. Malcolm was sad, but not as much as they were -- why should he be, Jeremiah had never really shown him much favor -- and Tyler ended up taking a lot of time off work to arrange the funeral. When the time came to lay him to rest, it was no easier than when they’d gotten the news. The surprising part was that when it was mentioned that Tyler was having a hard time living in the place where he’d grown up with his father, Jonathan Krieger, Libby’s brother, mentioned moving to Michigan. It was close enough that the boys could visit with friends over the weekend if they wanted to, but far enough away that Tyler might be able to grieve in peace. Libby had always had a great love for her father-in-law, and she agreed that some distance would do the trick. Within a few months of the funeral, the Reynolds family was packed up to move to Ann Arbor, to a township called Scarlet Oak where Libby’s brother lived. Tyler had been able to transfer to a different office for his company in Detroit, and the bonus and increase in pay had been incentive enough to make the move as soon as possible. They bought a house close to the middle of town and settled in as best they could. With all the extra money coming in, Tyler hired a stock broker and started investing. Pretty soon, he was making some pretty decent money from his stocks, and the nearly twenty grand increase in his pay didn’t hurt either. The commute to Detroit wasn’t terrible either, depending on when Tyler left for work. It was a bit of an adjustment for Bryce, who was used to seeing more of his dad. All of the change in so little time had him dealing with the loss of his grandfather in a more materialistic way. He liked that they had more money for things, and soon he was able to dress just as nicely as he wanted. Despite moving to a new place, Bryce found that his joining up with all the sports teams and his new style of dress had him nicely fitting in at the start of junior high. Really, he chose sports because it was a healthy distraction from everything he was dealing with. That, and he was pretty damned fast, thanks to his natural agility. Friend were easily won for Bryce, and he settled into school and his new life as best he could. Without his grandfather around to help him, his elementalism fell by the wayside a little bit, but his telepathy? The more friends he had, the more he could practice hearing people’s thoughts. A lot of his friends were pretty fake, and the stereotypical jocks and bullies and rich kids. Despite Libby’s best efforts to nurture Bryce’s kind, sweet nature, he grew into a manipulative young man. He knew that other people saw him as the spaced-out kid, and he used that to his advantage. He got away with a lot of things that others wouldn’t simply for the fact that he really did attention issues and a very convincing confused face. By the time Bryce made it to high school, he had worked out a system using his telepathy that made it very easy to tell when teachers were around and when he was in the clear. He learned where to hit people to cause the most damage without it being noticed by other people. Try as she might, Libby had almost no control over Bryce’s antics. Despite that, he made passing grades -- enough that he could still be involved in lacrosse, track and soccer, at least -- even if he had to have a tutor in a few classes that he just didn’t seem to get. That, and Bryce was hard put to actually study, especially when there were parties to go to and girls to make out with. Still, high school went by for Bryce in a little bit of a blur. That was, until, dun dun dun, Bryce’s senior year. There were a lot of projects to keep on with and he was more focused on getting a sports scholarship than anything else. He didn’t exactly play football or hockey, but he knew he could at least get something for the sports he played. A bunch of games came up right around the time that Bryce should have been studying for his finals. He’d barely scraped by all year so he needed to pass all of his major tests in order to graduate. Despite warning from his mother, Bryce had not been responsible and ended up failing all of the tests in the core classes he absolutely must pass in order to be awarded his diploma. Bryce was upset, that much was true, but he wasn’t nearly upset as his mother thought he should be. Hey got to play another year on his teams, how bad was that? Since the Light of May: Right around the time that the school semester was coming to a close and Bryce was looking at repeating his senior year, the Light of May happened. Really, he was not so very surprised. His telepathy sort of gave him some insight into other people and he knew not all of them were human. His opinion about people coming out and telling everyone what they are? That’s good for them, and Bryce totally owned up to the whole air elemental thing -- it explains so much, really! -- but his telepathy? Yeah, fat chance he’s going to let that one slip to anyone. He has a good thing going and he is SO not going to chance screwing it all up. The bombing at the Broadway bridge had been scary, though. He and his brother Malcolm had gone and while Bryce had been mostly okay, Mal was hospitalized for about a week with several broken bones when he pushed Bryce out of the way of some falling concrete. Malcolm hasn’t really been the same since his accident but Bryce is grateful for him nonetheless. It’s amazing what a crisis can do for a relationship and the Reynolds boys have grown slightly closer because of it. ATTRIBUTES SHOW ME HOW IT ENDS IT'S ALRIGHT SHOW ME HOW DEFENSELESS YOU REALLY ARE Special Skills/Abilities: Bryce can run very, very fast and he’s exceedingly agile. This comes in handy for his position as a lacrosse attacker. Despite countless hours logged at the gym to bulk up, Bryce is still always going to be faster than stronger and able to take hits, but he’s gotten really good at doing that, too. He’s pretty much as hardy as he looks, and he has worked hard to become so. Apart from his sports, Bryce is a pretty decent cook and he likes making dinner with his mother on Thursday nights. That, and he can put a decent wardrobe together when he puts his mind to it. Personal Weaknesses: Telepathy: His psychic gift being both a curse and a blessing is not lost on him. Bryce has to be very selective with his shielding, which is still only just becoming available for him to manipulate and pick and choose at all. That and the fact that if he didn’t block anything out, he’d hear everyone. Well, everyone except earth elementals -- those are a nice blank, white-noise sounding bit of space to Bryce. Kind of a relief, actually, and it makes it easier for him to hang out with those types of people, provided they can stand his air-headed nature. Still, if Bryce has nothing in the way of a wall up at all, it is a constant stream of thoughts and he has become pretty good at pinpointing whose thoughts are whose. The less shielding he has in place, the more Bryce is given to fits of lacking the attention to handle a simple conversation. He learned early on how to shut it all out -- he had to, or else he would have gone crazy -- but it definitely still can be stressful and hard to do, especially if anyone’s having any strong sort of emotion or idea. He’s still a work in progress, but he hopes one day to have the shielding be much easier, since the headaches don’t really help. Claustrophobic: One too many times being locked in the closet by Malcolm as a child and Bryce can’t handle to be in tight spaces for long before he gets the shakes. Elevators? No, thank you. He does better if the walls are made of glass, but really, he’d just prefer to be in wide open spaces where he doesn’t have to struggle to breathe. He does okay if there’s a distraction of some sort or if he’s only in small spaces for short spans of time, but longer than say, a half hour and he’s in for a bit of an anxiety attack. He’s constantly having to talk himself down in one way or another, sometimes people can make him feel just as walled in as actual walls. Iron: Being really into sports and taking his vitamins means that Bryce is in for a bit of a stomach ache on a daily basis. He has no idea that he has fae blood and that sort of poses a problem when he’s taking a multivitamin that has iron in it. The fae in his blood isn’t strong enough to do much more than give him a headache if he’s around it in its raw form, or stomach upset after lunch when he takes his vitamins, but it’s enough that he notices. He’s gone to the doctor about it but all they could really do is prescribe him something to take with the medicine to ease his nausea. If he were to figure out that his blood was the sort that vampires very much wanted so they could be out in the sunlight without adverse affects, he’d most likely feel pretty worried about that. Materialistic: So, Bryce sort of dealt with his grandfather passing with a little (or a LOT) of retail therapy. He didn’t have any idea what that would really do to his psyche, but it left a lasting effect. Bryce constantly wants more, better, things. And he wants them now. And his dad makes enough now that he definitely gets most of the things he wants, but it leaves him in that downward spiral of wanting more, more, more. His parents haven’t exactly reigned him in but ever since they gave him a credit card its been nothing but video game systems and clothes and taking girls out to restaurants he probably shouldn’t. It was a horrible path to go down and likely Bryce will experience the hardship and repercussions of his ways once he’s not using his dad’s money. And hey, the stock market can always crash pretty hardcore. Personal Strengths: Run Like the Wind!: If nothing else, Bryce has his speed. He’s amazing at track and he’s gotten himself to where he’s actually pretty lethal at lacrosse. Soccer is his best sport by far, probably, because it requires those fast, agile movements that Bryce is so good at. He knows that this is due in part to his elementalism and he thanks his lucky stars that it helps him so much. It was a natural ability that he honed and worked on and now he’s even faster than he was when he was younger due to countless hours at the gym and on the track training with his teams. If there is anything in the world that Bryce can do that will cheer him up or help him blow off steam, it is running. He’s not so very good at running distance but he’s got the stamina to last through his games and that makes him happy. If he’s really feeling lousy or like he needs a break, he has been known to go run sprints for the sheer hell of it. It is the one place where he feels the most in control. Who, Me?: Bryce’s air-headed nature and his telepathy make for a powerful combination. He’s learned how to use both to manipulate people and get what he wants -- all the while not really catching much flak for it because he’s so good at more than just playing the dumb, spacey jock. He sort of is the dumb, spacey jock, at least when he needs to be. He is nice to the people who he thinks can help him the most and he is very not-so-nice to the people he feels are lesser. And that’s basically anyone who isn’t a jock, popular, rich, or actual friends or family with any of those categories. His idea of popular might be a little different than others’ but he usually just follows the crowd. He is very good at bringing that innocent face to the forefront, as well as his classic confused expression, since he very nearly wears it most of the time. Since he’s come out about being an air elemental, its become increasingly easier for him to get away with things, but his time for that is running short. | ![]() BRYCE ALLEN ..as long as it's about me FULL NAME: Bryce Allen Reynolds ALIAS: n/a NICKNAMES: Bry, Ryc and simply 'Reynolds' at team practice CURRENT AGE: 19 DATE OF BIRTH: September 21, 1990 PLACE OF BIRTH: Milwaukee, Wisconsin MARITAL STATUS: Single SEXUALITY: Straight OCCUPATION: High school senior (again!) They are the dreamers, the academics, and the idealists. Air elementals are constant daydreamers, and are always asking, 'Why not?' Air elementals are frequently the most commonly misunderstood of the elementals - while most air elementals have high intellects, it is not uncommon for them to be written off as flaky. They can sometimes tend to be abstract, seeing the big picture in a way many do not. Air elementals tend to be gifted with words, and can be just as great a writer or entertainer as a theorist or economist. They can sometimes be radical thinkers, and tend to be a little ahead of their time. Level 1: You've always had a better sense of smell and sound than most. You will never suffer from lung disease. You will never be hit by lightning. Level 2: You have a good sense of the weather. You've never had trouble reading the skies for signs of weather changes, and you may have a hobby for astronomy. Level 3: With deep concentration, you can summon a small breeze. ![]() Telepaths hear the thoughts of other people. Usually, this applies only to humans (or human-shaped things, such as vampires and werewolves), but once in a while a telepath pops up with more limited boundaries. Telepaths start out only being able to hear thoughts of those around them in their immediate area, but with enough training they can learn to do more (though it is rare). If they manage to unlock the rest of their abilities, they can send their own thoughts to other people in their area, or eventually, link to the mind of someone at a far distance. Bryce can get a read on most anyone’s thoughts -- except those of an earth elemental. For some reason his gift does not extend to those people chosen by his opposing element. ![]() NAME: Sarah EMAIL: see contact info~ PB: Colton Haynes AVAILABILITY: Online on AIM most evenings, but always reachable via email.
