PERSONALITY
Miguel is an intensely private man, and not just because he's Spider-man. His childhood was dominated by his father, George O'Hara, an alcoholic with a very bad temper who regularly physically abused his wife Conchata and his eldest son, Miguel. This only stopped for Miguel when he was sent to Boarding School. His mother makes no secret of the fact that she much prefers Miguel's younger brother, Gabriel, to him, often saying it directly to his face. “Why can't you be more like your brother?” is a question he is more than fed up with. Gabriel is an artist, a sensitive soul who only wants to help people, Conchata says, and Miguel is nothing like that, apparently. He believes that his mother hates him, because he reminds her of his father. His fiancée left him for his boss. He has learned that if you can't trust your own family, you might as well not bother trusting anyone.
In fact, the only being that Miguel trusts is Lyla (LYrate Lifeform Approximation), his holo-agent. She knows everything about Miguel, including who his alter-ego is, and is programmed to be utterly loyal to him. He encourages her to develop her own algorithms and decision-making protocols, and she is dangerously close to thinking for herself.
Miguel is not exactly a people-person, although not because he's shy. Quite the opposite, in fact. He's confident, often over-confident to the point that people don't like him, or he'll come out with some smart-arse or sarcastic comment. He's an asshole, basically, but if it keeps people from getting too close (and then hurting him yet again), he's good with that. He doesn't always “get” feelings or understand them, whether they're other people's feelings or his own, and finds it much easier to push them to one side or simply ignore them altogether. He understands anger, though, and often reacts badly to things out of frustration, both as himself and as Spider-man.
Miguel is a genius, and attended Alchemax's School for Gifted Youngsters as a young boy right up until he was hired by Alchemax. He is a geneticist by training, and heads up the Corporate Raiders program, which is intended to create a strike force of genetically-altered humans that is controlled and run by Alchemax. Whilst genetics and biology in general are what he's most interested in, he is also very good with computers, capable of hacking into the servers at work without being detected, and is skilled at designing, creating and building his own machinery and technology.
Miguel tries very hard to do the right thing. Ever since his “accident” where he gained his spider-powers, he's become more and more aware of how badly Alchemax treats the people of Nueva York, especially those who live in the area known as Downtown. At first, he wanted nothing to do with the place, or the new powers he'd gained, but over time he began to use his new abilities to help protect the people from Alchemax. The company sees him as a threat, and he's more than fine with that since if they're dealing with him, they aren't picking on Downtowners.
He's still an asshole, but he's doing his best to help. That has to count for something, right?
