My brother claims to have come to his senses, but judging by the insinuations in his letter, I sincerely doubt he will be able to hold his affections at bay for long. Forbidden fruit always tastes the sweetest. I can't protect him from my father much longer. I'm not entirely sure I should, for that matter. His loyalty to the family is obviously in question. Perhaps I should stop trying so hard to force him to uphold it.

He may have the rest of this school fooled, but I know what my dearest brother is capable of. The Malfoy genes won't allow him to forgive. He'll seek revenge.

If he so much as looks at Avalon the wrong way, he will pay for it. Dearly.

And as always, you've read me wrong, dear brother. I'm not surprised. Your assumptions are of your own faunt; I never implied such and you know it. It's apparently your way to wrongfully justify your mistake, for hurting the Weasley.

And neither did I claim my innocence. Cease being so presumptuous, Scorpius. It's not a good color on you. I'm however, glad to see the words 'myself' and 'disgust' thrown in your sentences. How is dear Avalon, by the way? I hope she is fairing well.

And the fact that when confronted about the consequences of fraternizing with her, the possibility of losing your family, you still refused to end things? No, those were clearly true. And not at all what we were talking about. When did I strongly imply that you should forge my writing to arrange a meeting in Knockturn with her so you can hurt her? I don't recall such an instance, Scorpius. No one obligated you to follow that road.

I don't even know why we're discussing this. I told you I'm staying away.

I'm glad to hear that. You should make sure, though. You only wish to keep her safe.

I repeat yet again that I had no intention of hurting your precious Weasley when we met. She was frightened and struggled when I grabbed her.

You may not have implied that I should arrange a meeting, but you did force me to act. It was rash, I admit, but sometimes our affections for our loved ones lead us to act rashly. I have been trying to protect you, Phoenix, but you make it quite difficult when you insist on throwing yourself under a bus.

Believe me, she's well-looked after, though I must say, she's perfectly capable of looking after herself. One would be a fool to try and harm her.

You can't have merely accidentally grabbed her, Scorpius. It was your intention to, but you were only to late to realize you've lost control. And here I though you had a lot of that.

Stop trying to place this burden on me. You acted on what you thought was right, and in the end, you were wrong. Accept it.

Brother. ~~I l~~ I understand what you've gone through, but what I don't understand is why you had to go to such lengths, to hurting her. Even if it wasn't your initial intention to do so, you did. I don't think that is pardonable, hurting a woman. Father taught us better.

I appreciate what you've been trying to do, but I'd be perfectly honest, I would rather not be protected than be unhappy. However, what's done is done. I hope you are happy.

Your explanation doesn't make it any less bad. You remain unapologetic, even when we both know you don't have any right to.

You know it won't. And you also know that my happiness with the family is not the matter I'm speaking of, but of the absense of happiness in one other part of my life. I don't think you care much about such a thing, so I would refrain from speaking of it.

As you said, I can't have both. I have to be satisfied. I'm afraid that's all that needs to be said. Have a good time at the Ball, Scorpius.
