Current mood: bouncy
Entry tags:andrew, birds!, good day, two into one hagiographic personality, two patricks theory can bite me, well this isn't good

[Viewable to his brothers(this now includes Sebastian!), Saint Joan and Saint Agatha]

I got to work today and one of the kids asked me where his Garfield books were. So apparently he mentioned liking them and I went to the library to get him some comic anthologies and I just...got a little lost. I still don't understand it, but at least it's probably not something sinister. Right?

I knew I wasn't drinking.

Poor kid still doesn't have his books though. I may have given him an conciliatory cookie.

The apartment now has birds in it and they're lovely. Downpatrick is very accepting, lovely boy that he is. It's a good thing I don't have cats!

I'm feeling good today. My oldest brother is here!

I might go on a walk! So much energy!

George and I have been thinking about getting a dog, but we can't decide on anything in particular. Have a dog and birds, though, ought to keep you busy!

[Patrick]
I was wondering - and I know it's not your specific problem, but it's the best I can do - I was wondering if you wanted to go to one of my NA meetings with me? Just to sit in, listen to other people talk about addictions and struggling with them. I want you to see that it isn't bad people who have trouble with things like this - but all sorts of people, most of them very good people.

I wish I could have a wolfhound, but I suppose the terrier will have to do in a small place like this!

[Sebastian]
Actually, I really think that would help a lot. Sebastian, thank you.

Yeah, that's the problem we've been having - the apartment has a weight limit for pets, so larger breeds are essentially out. Terriers are lovely pets, though!

[Patrick]
I go on Tuesday nights. There's a 5:30 meeting and a 7:30 meeting - we can go to whichever one is better for you. I resisted going myself for weeks because I didn't think I needed any help, but you'd be surprised what just listening to other people talk will do for you.

Downpatrick has such a lovely disposition!

[Sebastian]
7:30 is better with my work schedule.

He really does! In terms of dogs, I really like him. I'm afraid I'm guilty of being more of a cat person, but he's very well-behaved.

[Patrick]
Alright. I'll come pick you up and we'll go, then. If you go and end up thinking it'll help some, there's a bulletin board at the church with schedules of all kinds of meetings. It's... hard to ask for help, I know.

Cats are nice too! I am not pet-discriminatory!

[Sebastian]
I think the harder thing is actually wanting the help right now.

Believe me, I know that feeling too. If I didn't constantly think about how disappointed George would be, I would really have no desire to get the help either.

Part of me thinks going against belief is pointless anyway.

I know that others won't agree with me, but Jesus always preached moderation, not abstinence. I think all you need to do is get it under control - not limit yourself to never touching another drop; that's just unreasonable.

You may have just made my day.

And don't worry. I know you didn't just give me permission to go mental.

There's a lot of tendencies that belief has heightened with me and I have always exerted extreme control over those things - it let me have what I felt I needed and didn't make me feel guilty because I had drawn a line for myself and refused to cross it. I think that's what you need to do - and yes, sometimes you need help to do it.

Well, just shy of two-thousand years of screwing up very effectively will eventually give a man wisdom.

I'm certain you're already awash with offers of assistance from everyone, but I'd be remiss in my brotherly duties if I didn't make the same offer. If you'd like to talk about it, or if there's anything else I can do, you only have to say so.

Well, how am I supposed to say no to an invite like that? When is a good time to come by? I could pop in after my class tomorrow afternoon, or any evening of the week.

Hmm, well at least you know why you were headed to the library. The memory loss is still pretty worrying, but if it doesn't happen again, maybe it's just a fluke?

And those birds are adorable!

Come see them!

Maybe I just blacked out because the Pope biography I had in my hand was badly written!?

Downpatrick is the kind of dog who would let them roost on him. He's loving it.
