Appearance

Zael is 5'11" in height. So not overly tall, but not short by any means. He is of average, athletic build. Sturdy, a bit wiry. Certainly having firmness and strength to his body, but hardly a body builder. He has dark ash blond hair with green eyes. His facial expressions tend toward dark and devious, as is his nature. There are some scars on his body, but not many, as both Angel and Vessel are warriors at heart.

In dress he favors dark colors and uninhibited clothing. As a lighter, he doesn't like his movements being restricted. He dresses anywhere from casual to formal, but always in clothing he can move well in. His tastes tend to be rich and luxurious.

Personality

Zael use to be an Angel known for his purity and loyalty. His unwavering faith in God and their mission, a Warrior of Heaven. That is until he was corrupted and fell. In falling he had his eyes opened to the hypocrisy of it all. So now walking the earth is a very jaded fallen angel, one who has stood the test of time and stayed neutral. Zael is largely a pessimist with a sarcastic humor and look at life.

He is honest, some of the time, a slippery snake the other part of time. Once he thought for the collective, but now his main concern is himself. He did his time sacrificing and being selfless. Now he is out for himself. Which lead to his neutrality. He doesn't want to serve God, and he doesn't want to serve Lucifer. He doesn't do well taking orders. In fact he often laughs when someone tries. He will work with someone, but he doesn't follow.

Zael, in his years on Earth, has become a deviant. A hedonist, enjoying pleasure, giving pleasure. From simple pleasures to complex, he doesn't choose one over the other. He has a slow temper, hard to rouse. Rather laid-back, all things considered. More apt to watch things unfold than participate. But once angered or having his hand forced in a situation, the carefree, laid-back attitude disappears. He is cold, indifferent and his tongue is razer sharp. Nothing incites his anger like being forced into action before he is ready.

As a fighter he is relaxed and graceful. Put a weapon in his hand and you he is at home. He has a carefree way about him when he's fighting. He'll banter and joke around. Except when he's serious, then he becomes quiet and intensely focused. There are no jokes or banter when he's serious.

He is a decent friend, for one whose loyalty is to himself first. He operates largely in a trade business and this extends to friendships and relationships. So long as it benefits him he's fine. When it ceases to benefit? Then its over. He may come to forgive, but he will never forget, and his memory is a long one. not necessarily vengeful, he can be vindictive. Certainly a manipulator.

History

From the moment Azel was 'born' he was known as one of the pure ones. Loyal and faithful to God, to his brethren Angels. Close to Hadraniel, a warrior under the Archangel Michael, his time served was exemplary. That is until he took Áed as a vessel.

Áed was a warrior, second son of a Chieftain in the Ireland of old, back in the time of the Great Roman Empire. Áed was a pagan, and while there was good in him that made him a good vessel that wanted to fight and protect his Clan from the threat of demons, so allowing the Angel to inhabit him... Áed also was far less pure than Azel was. Vessel influenced the Angel enough that when he walked into a trap and was captured by demons and left for an Incubus and Succubus pair to torment... there was little hope. He fell when he gave in to the corruption, fathering a nephilim which earned him banishment from Heaven. Fell as he sank into the lure of carnal pleasures.

And so Áed would become lost as Zael took over his body, becoming immortal through being the vessel of an Angel who fell.

In falling, Azel shed his Angelic name for Zael, a name with no meaning, but holding the ties of his past being a mere re-arranging of the letters of his God given name. He enjoyed the company of the 'twin' demons for a century before taking his leave of them. Turning down the offer to join Lucifer. Wanting little to nothing to do with the war between Heaven and Hell. Wanting neither side. A position difficult to hold, but his warrior strength and knowledge helped him in keeping his neutrality until enough time had passed that it was merely a fact of his being. Not that Lucifer still didn't attempt to win him over.

Through the passing of centuries Zael traveled. He didn't stay anywhere overly long, but enough to set temporary roots. Always moving along when he grew too bored and complacent. Or should he be forced out for one reason or another. He mostly kept to the 'romantic' countries. He had a love for the romance Languages, rather than the more harsh Germanic and Slavic languages. Not to mention occasionally taking a step into Hell. It was in hell that he met the newborn hellhound he would name Shani. A demonic animal that would become his companion, guarding him and the items he would collect over the long years. Another layer of defense against angels and demons alike.

Also during this time he made quite the name for himself in being a deviant. Indulging in sexual escapades, hands metaphorically stained by blood as not so innocent people died. Staining his hands for God hadn't commanded it. Still, he made his own way, brokering information and trading skills for favors, and vice versa. Though what likely didn't sit well with Heaven was the fact Zael not only fathered more Nephilim, but he also caused two other Angels to fall. This lead to some fights that Zael was lucky to make it out of with his Vessel still intact, much to the chagrin of his vessel who still lingers in the back of his mind.

Eventually he moved on to the Western Hemisphere. A place that seemed to keep his interest the longest as he traveled the area heavily. That is until 2014. Through time Zael took many lovers and pets among humans the supernatural set. And at least in the veins of the pets he always had a special pendant they would wear, magicked so only he could remove the pendant from them. A beacon for him to always find them. It also gave them protection. It was strong magic and had cost him a small fortune and some favors to the witch in order to have it made. But when a pet died wearing it, and he couldn't get to them in time, their body moved after death... he'd lost it. Until it was found.

Once activated the pendant lead him to New Orleans straight to a young Archaeologist who had recovered it in Aztec ruins. The oddity of it there, so different and far too old to be there, lead the man, Remi, to keep it with him. The man also put it on, which activated the old magic on it and lead Zael straight to him. The affair that sprouted from it was hardly easy or smooth, but Zael enjoyed every moment of it. Remi is now his, even if the man still resists, but the fact he had followed Zael to Montreal, where he set up a little pub? Well, it spoke volumes.

Really, Montreal had been a random choice. By the time cities began to fall he was already ensconced in there. He had acquired Purgatory, a small time pub frequented by the supernatural set. A place deemed neutral ground, enforced by Zael himself and the beings he employed on his staff. As well as the large black Shani, his hellhound companion through the centuries. Currently in the vessel of a black wolf, closest Earth animal to its natural form, with glowing red eyes and much larger in form than its mundane counterparts.

Then they fell on Montreal. His former General now on the other side. Zael isn't too easy having his chosen home - for now- so filled with enemies from both sides, but he is determined to stand his ground and keep what he has built here going.

Other Details: Shani is his large, very large, hellhound in a black wolf vessel. He extremely loyal. Guard dog and companion, he is incredibly smart. He is often seem sleeping and lazing in front of the hearth in the pub, or walking at Zael or Remi's side.

The Pendant that Remi wears. Only Zael is able to remove it. It relays Remi's location and health directly to Zael at all times, alerting Zael of when Remi is in danger. It also acts as protection against minor and most lower-mid level magics.

Purgatory Pub

Welcome to Purgatory Pub. Unassuming from the outside, it is a Supernatural Hub. Declared Neutral Ground, there is to be no fighting on the premises. If fighting breaks out then expect one of the employees to step in, if not Zael himself. Purgatory is open from 10:00am until 02:00am, serving lunch, dinner and late night snack fare. Their bar serves a number of drafts, imports and domestics, as well as your standard liquors. And if Zael really likes you, perhaps something particularly rare can be had. All are welcomed, and a very complex and powerful bit of magical warding prevents most malicious spell casting, and alerts Zael and the witch who cast them - who also works the pub - when any magic is used, or even if a magical artifact is on the premises. Zael, Remi and Shani live above the pub, with the attic their private storage space and library.

Shani, the Hellhound

Name: Shani (שָׁנִי; Hebrew meaning 'red, scarlet')
Species: Hellhound
Current Vessel: Black Wolf. Signs the wolf is possessed by a Hellhound are the red eyes (can also be green or yellow in others) and his abnormally large stature. He is 6'5" long, longer than the average male wolf in Northern America.
Natural Form: Rather wolf-like. His fur is inky black, and his eyes glow red. He has sharp and elongated fangs, claws sharp and hard as metal. He is around seven feet long. Smells constantly of fire and brimstone.
Abilities: Incredibly intelligent, having learned and continues to learn the languages Zael comes to speak. He has a telepathic link to his master, though it is basic. No forming of words, instead he is able to transmit images and emotions to Zael. He is a vicious and smart fighter. He works seamlessly with Zael when in battle. Has enhanced strength, agility and senses beyond that of a normal wolf. He doesn't smell like fire and brimstone until he exerts his full hellhound abilities while on Earth.
Personality: Normally, Shani is rather happy and pet-like. Enjoys playing, loves being petted, but only by people he trusts. That pool of people is just as tiny, though, as Zael's is. Though some more innocent types have been known to lure him over for pets and treats without Zael's approval... but his loyalty is to Zael first and foremost. Not that it is apparent at times, as he's become rather fond of his master's current pet, Remi, and is known to side with Remi over Zael in some minor instances. Shani can be stubborn with his master and has been known to ignore Zael when he thinks his master is being ridiculous. To look at him in the pub he is rather chill. Until someone acts up or threatens what the hellhound sees as his to protect; Zael, Remi and the Pub. Then he turns demonically vicious and will stop at nothing until what is his has become safe once more.
