Drusilla hypnotized Kendra and put her in a trance. Defenseless, and unable to stop Drusilla from attacking her. Drusilla slit her throat and killed Kendra. The Watchers Council uses this as a way to make Buffy the suspect in Kendra's Murder and With Kendra's death, Faith Lehane was activated as a new Slayer and the last of the original line.

The Council was able to save her through magic, yes she did die, but Kendar's body was seemingly in a coma and on Life support at the Initiative facilities. Seeing that the Watchers Council was backing this agency even if it was being run by the US Government and when things didn't work out with the Slayers Buffy or Faith since one went rogue. Buffy chose to stop following the Council's orders altogether, severing all ties with them. They would have a true slayer to fall back on.

The Council sent another special ops team to the Initiative facilities to wake Kendra from her coma as the Ascension occurred during the graduation ceremony. They thought it would be best to have a Slayer under their control for they thought that both Buffy and Faith were lost to them.

It was a year later after the fall of the Watchers Council that the slayers would cross paths. It was Faith and Kandra first and then Buffy and the rest of the Scooby Gang. Kandra joined the Slayer Organization and helped in training the new Slayers.
