PERSONALITY 5-10 STRENGTHS: -Patient -Determined -Opportunistic -Cunning -Organized 5-10 FLAWS: -Cold -Obsessive -Spiteful -Arrogant -Manipulative GREATEST DESIRE/MOTIVATION: Power. Olivia wants power. Ever since she was old enough to know her duties as a noblewoman, Olivia has been taught that she will one day marry and have heirs. That isn't nearly enough for her. Olivia wants as much power as any Lord out there. If that's through using her own name to claim more power, or climb the the ministry ranks. POLITICAL AGENDA: There is no way that she will be queen, and she definitely doesn't want that much responsibility. Olivia hopes that helping those she trusts to the throne will help her in the long run. Her goal is to claim House Selwyn as her own, and see to it that any first born woman will have the power to take be the rightful air to their own House. POLITICAL ALLIES: Not yet, but that would be fun to build towards. HISTORY TOP 5 DEFINING MOMENTS: Stars There are days that Olivia questions everything she does. Why try to join in a political battle? Why risk everything for a title and recognition? Why do all of this, when there is so much out there to explore. Especially space. When Olivia was six, she was given her first telescope. The girl had always been obsessed with the night sky. Ever since watching her first meteor shower. It was still only a toy, but it meant she could see the moon closer and clearer. Spending every night she could studying the stars and planets made Olivia feel normal. If only for an hour or so. To this day, Olivia still uses the night sky to center herself, and help see clearer. Even if she'll never be able to make her hobby her true profession, Olivia will never give up her collection of telescopes and star charts. Etiquette Class The first time Olivia was forced to sit still and be the perfect little girl. It was painful to watch, and even more painful to teach her. Olivia had been so use to having her day to play, and only spend some parts of it learning small details about other families. The woman that was picked to teach Olivia how to be a proper lady was a crazy old bat. At least to Olivia. Wasn't she supposed to be playing tag with her brother? It was a perfect fall day, and she was stuck inside being taught to cross her legs at her ankles, sit perfectly still, and not make a peep. Olivia would remember this as the moment she realized how unfair it was that she had to be trained, and her brother could run free. Love, sweet love Fairy tales and happy endings have never been in the cards for Olivia. She was told that she didn't have time for that, and her only goal was to marry for politics. Still, the older that Olivia got, the more she wished that she could find that romance. For a moment, she thought she had it. Some noble from Bulgaria came into her life and she fell head over heels for him. In her naive brain, she planed for romance. What she got was a broken heart. In that moment of pain, Olivia realized that love was a stupid notion. Love made you blind and stupid, and the pain would always be too much. Instead, she vowed to never fall again. Graduation Olivia was certain that her life was completely planned for her after graduation. She was sure that her mother had already set up a match, and that she would be married shortly after. The fear crept into the very soul of Olivia. For most of the year, she was shut off from her friends and kept contact with her mother short. Waiting for the bomb to drop terrified her. Was she really going to be stuck in a world that was completely created and crafted? Once she arrived home, her father mentioned that they would give her some time to come into her own before the match came. For the first time in six months, Olivia breathed a sigh of relief, and decided to make the next years the best she could. Even if part of that is still trying to figure out how to shape her own life. Career There were plenty of things that Olivia could have done after graduation. The first and only thing she wanted? To find her own job and try for it. Her determination lead her to pursue an internship within the ministry. She wanted to do something that would anger her mother as much as possible, but still make a name for herself. While starting at the bottom was humbling to Olivia, she was still ecstatic when the Ministry decided to give her a position. HAPPIEST MEMORY: Once Olivia's father finally understood that she was obsessed with astronomy, he finally purchased her a stronger and more powerful telescope. While she had seen illustrations in books, nothing could compare to the feeling when she saw the rings of Saturn with her own eyes (and the help of a very powerful telescope). It has always been something so simple, but it showed Olivia that her father did care about her interests. WORST MEMORY: Her mother hexing her for the first time. Jocelyne was strict and stern with her children. Olivia was the oldest, and typically got the brunt of her anger. Olivia only remembers the sound of something breaking, and then feeling like her body was being broken into a thousand pieces. Olivia can't even remember if it was a vase, or if it was even her who ran into it. All she remembers is the pain and her mother looking down at her with pure anger. BIGGEST SECRET: Olivia wanted to run away from her entire life. Her mother had given her grief about something or another, and Olivia had grown completely tired of it. She could no longer see a point in being considered a noble when her mother constantly pushed her down. So, when she came home from fifth year, she packed a bag and made a plan. When the night came, she was about to grab everything, but her youngest sister came into the room with tears in her eyes. After that moment, Olivia knew she couldn't leave her younger siblings. Still, Olivia contemplates picking up everything and just leaving. Especially if her plans of power fall through. CURRENT LIFE: Olivia is working as hard as she can, and being the social daughter that she was trained to be. DIFFERENCE FROM CANON: She exists! And isn't related to Umbridge. WRITING SAMPLES FIRST PERSON: I'm quite glad that the rain decided to start near the end of the meteor shower last night. It was almost perfect timing. Of course I did miss the last couple of hours, but it was still absolutely stunning until the clouds covered the sky. Not much compares to watching an event like from the field behind the estate. Save for the wind, it was completely quiet. I'll definitely be counting down the days until we have another. Hexed Private to Self Not even our mother could find us. It was one of the better nights at home. THIRD PERSON: A small yawn escaped painted red lips as she leaned back in her chair. A cup of something far stronger than tea was in front of her at the table. Several pieces of parchment were scattered around, held down from the soft breeze by various other objects. A spoon, a saucer, a plate with a half eaten sandwich on it all kept the pieces in place. It was late afternoon on a Saturday and she didn't have anything else to do than finish up with a report on the expenses of the German Ambassador during the past week of meetings. Merlin, this was not how she should be spending her free time, but there was a promise of a promotion if she did really well on her evaluation. And there was no way she would allow that bloody red head to get her position. With a soft sigh, she picked up her cup and took a long drink. The whiskey burned the back of her throat, and brought her back to reality from her daydreams. All she wanted to do was crawl back into bed and sleep the weekend through. One of the waitstaff came to clear her table, but a long glare and a mention of hexing them to the middle of the Pacific if they touched anything on her table sent them walking quickly in the other direction. A shadow loomed over her and she was about to ask if they had heard her correctly when her eyes landed on someone completely different. "Well hello." Her voice was soft and sweet, hiding any of the aggression that she currently felt at being interrupted. PLOT IDEAS: There are two ways that Olivia is going to play the game. Either through royal ties, or through the ministry. She's willing to do either, and seeing what connections she can create to do so could be fun. I would like to see her reaction if she is ever set up in an arranged marriage, and what she'll do to make sure the marriage matters. Even if she's only from a minor house, she could be useful. |
