Riley Aventine ([info]amulius) wrote,
The house was unnecessarily large, in Riley's opinion. But then, he thought an awful lot of houses were too big. Why would anyone ever want to put walls around that much space, was his question. All he needed was a roof over his head so he didn't get wet in the rain, and sometimes he didn't even mind that - though the womenfolk and the cubs were mighty particular about it. He passed through the gates and slowed to a gallop and then a trot outside the door. He clawed the earth as Tao spoke and looked up to him with baleful eyes. Inside, he debated whether or not he ought to surge past the vampire - but then, that would be awful immature.

Riley raised his eyes to the evening sky and shifted. He changed slower than he could, taking care so that the vampire wouldn't note how quickly he could do it. The last thing to change was his teeth, his sharp canines morphing into a perfectly pleasant, very humanesque smile. That was how one could tell a shifter from a regular old wood dwelling redneck freak. Riley's family were animals - sometimes - but they had proper teeth.

When his change was over, he stood completely bare in front of the vampire, unashamed of his body. Proud, in fact, of the scars and the ink that marked his skin. He joined Tao next to the steps, "Someone as old as you ought to know the difference between a dog and a wolf."
