PERSONALITY |
David Nolan does what’s right. If he’s lucky, what’s right is also what’s easy, and when that happens, it’s his favorite. Most times, though, it’s not, so he’s forced to make tough decisions. Sometimes, he makes unpopular decisions, especially if it concerns the villain of the week living or going free or unpunished. Man, he hates when that has to happen, but there you are. It happens. He tends to see the world as black and white, and it’s only with Snow’s help that he begins to see the shades of grey that exist. His philosophy is “do what’s right, even if it means you’ll get hurt”. Put others before you, trust that right and good and honor will prevail. Snow white is his heart and soul, sometimes his conscience. He’ll do basically anything to find her when they are parted, even spending time in a cursed sleep to make sure that she and Emma return home safely. He shoulders a lot of responsibility, all of it willingly, and doesn’t complain when the burden is heavy. He simply bucks up, grips Snow’s hand a little more tightly, and does what he has to do. In the end, he’s a good man, an honorable one, and one who sometimes blinds himself to the goodness in others when they’ve been not-so-good in the past. |
HISTORY |
He’s the twin son of a peasant farmer and his wife, good people who worked hard all of their lives and gave up one of their sons so that the king and queen could have a child and heir. But then the other son died and David was asked to take the prince’s place. The idea was that he would be a figurehead, only David was all “nuh uh, I’ve got SPONSITILITY to these people so yeah, whatever” and then he agreed to marry some other princess but they didn’t much like one another and she was betrothed to a supposedly dead knight. Then David brought the knight back to life and defeated the nymph and had already met Snow white and was like whoa attracted. So then they had a bunch of issues getting together, mainly due to the evil queen, Regina, who was sort of a bitch and wanted to kill Snow and probably him. Well she failed and he and snow got married and then the queen was going to try to end the world and so the only way to save their baby was to put her in a magic tree and then BAM, the entire realm was turned into Storybrooke, ME and no one could remember who they were, and David was no longer Charming, he was just this John Doe who had been in an accident and was unconscious in a hospital. He woke up and had amnesia, so he definitely didn’t remember his wife, but he found himself attracted to Mary Margaret Blanchard, a woman who had read to him while he was unconscious. Eventually he got his memory back, but he and his wife were definitely not in love, so they separated so he could be with Mary Margaret and his wife could go to Boston to school, but Kathryn appeared to have been murdered, and David was the prime suspect. There’s really no evidence, so he’s free to go, but the people in the town blame Mary Margaret and say a bunch of nasty stuff about her -- and then one day Kathryn reappears and it’s clear that no one killed her and she’s safe and sound. David decides to leave town, but just before he does, the curse that Regina placed over the town breaks, and he remembers it all. He finds her and they are finally reunited. But not for long. Emma and Snow are sent home, with no known portal available to bring them home. So while those two were tasked with trying to find a way home, it was left to David and the rest to also figure out a way to create a portal to bring them home. It turns out that Emma and Snow encountered Mulan and the Princess Aurora. While Emma and company are trying to get home, David and the gang back in Storybrooke are trying to find a way to get to them, or to bring them back. As a result of his enchanted sleep, Henry is able to see and talk to Aurora, who also has nightmares and is able to talk to Henry, informing them that Mary Margaret and Emma are alive. They have Henry talk to Aurora a few more times, but after Henry is burned, it is decided that it’s too dangerous and David steps up. Mary Margaret takes Aurora’s place in the enchanted sleep realm, and they are able to exchange information that will allow Emma and Mary Margaret to return home. But David isn’t able to wake up from his enchanted sleep without true love’s kiss, which means he can’t wake up until after Mary Margaret returns. And of course, there are obstacles, including Regina and Gold conspiring to prevent their return, but because Good always wins, they are able to return home, and David is awoken by Mary Margaret’s kiss. David and Mary Margaret start to settle into their lives together, and figure out how to be parents (to an adult, no less). But things are disrupted when Archie Hopper is seemingly murdered. David and MM continue to figure out their lives while looking into Archie’s death -- it’s revealed that Cora (Regina’s mother, what) had killed him and framed Regina. She, of course, had claimed to have turned over a new leaf, yada yada yada. But no, murder ahoy! Anyway, David and MM figure out that Regina didn’t do it and tell her so. They go to Hook’s ship to get Archie and discover that there’s an actual giant there. A giant who gets free and soon is going on a rampage. One episode later, he’s calmed down and convinced that these people aren’t his enemies and becomes a part of the community. David and MM talk about going back to the Enchanted Forest. David (still) wants to, but MM is reluctant to leave Emma, so David stays because it’s where MM is. And he loves her. MM’s birthday rolls around, and she gets a tiara from her old governess. MM goes to visit Johanna, while David goes to the police station (where he is acting as Sheriff). He’s attacked there by Hook, who wants his hook back. He’s knocked out, but revived by Snow, and they need to find the dagger that Cora and Regina want to find, that belongs to Rumpelstiltskin. |
SPECIAL ABILITIES |
David has no real superhero qualities, but he is skilled at swordplay and the governing of a small kingdom. He is also handy at repairing automobiles, keeping a house in good repair, and general handiman things. He can ride a horse pretty well, too. |
THIRD PERSON SAMPLE |
David truly thought he’d seen it all; having lived in both a fairy-tale land and in Storybrooke, he’d seen a LOT. But nothing -- no, NOTHING -- could have prepared him for this. He’d given in to pressure and had dressed as, ahem, Prince Charming for this Halloween Party in the Tower, but Mary Margaret had refused to tell him what she was going as. He expected, maybe, the Disney Snow White. But what came out of their bedroom was so much BETTER. Mary Margaret. As a zombie. A fairytale zombie. He couldn’t stop the grin from spreading across his face as he stood, hefting Neal a little higher up. Mary Margaret let her face fall slack as she made a distinctly zombie noise, and David laughed outright. “That’s so cool! But no makeup for me?” Mary Margaret shook her head. “I’m going to be chasing you all right, David, going after those fresh brains of yours.” David stepped up to her and bent down to for a kiss. “I’d let you eat them. You’re the prettiest zombie I’ve ever seen.” |
