Standing at 6'3" and just under 14 stone, Thresh makes for an imposing and intimidating figure to all of the other Tributes, something he used to his advantage in the arena. However, the truth is that he is a kind and sensitive young man who wears his heart on his sleeve. His sister liked to tell stories of a young Thresh rescuing injured animals in the fields and if he was unable to properly nurse them back to health, holding tearful vigils for them.

An honorable and morally sound person, Thresh was approached at the beginning of training by the Careers in an attempt to form an alliance, which he refused, wanting to play by his own rules and to not be the Capitol's lapdog. Along with being one of few words, Thresh is an introvert, finding calm and peace in working alone most days in the fields (a philosophy that spilled over into the arena, as he was alone the majority of the time.)

Thresh has been shown to have a vengeful and angry side as well. During the Feast where the remaining Tributes were each given an item they each needed, Thresh overheard Clove telling Katniss how the Careers killed Rue, leading him to brutally murder Clove by smashing her skull in with a rock.

Like the other children from Panem, Thresh has had his share of physical, mental and emotional hardship. Having applied for tesserae for every one of his five years of being a part of the Reaping, Thresh was well aware of the repercussions but still hoped to get decent food for both his sister and grandmother, even if it meant adding his name into the Reaping Ball multiple times.

If anyone in District 11 was caught eating the food they were farming for the Capitol, they were publicly flogged by the Peacekeepers in the town square. Thresh is no stranger to such floggings as he attempted numerous times to bring extra food to his family, and has numerous scars on his back and shoulders to prove it. Though for how many times he was caught with food for his family, he remained under the radar for twice as many instances.

Agriculture: Having grown up in District 11 amidst the fruit orchards and fields, Thresh was put to work at a young age tending the fields alongside his sister and grandmother. He knows how to make plants grow in the poorest of conditions, how to operate heavy farm machinery, he can distinguish edible plants from poisonous and which are used for a variety of medicines.

Combat: Thresh's size and build thanks to both genetics and a life of tending the fields has given him an edge. He knows how to fight in close combat with a variety of handheld weapons, many of which are unconventional and found on a farm. While his skills are nothing like the Careers', he is still a force to be reckoned with as his mentor, Chaff, taught him well in the two weeks leading up to the games.
