Edgar was somewhat a problem child. He wasn't especially good at sitting still or following the rules put down by his parents (or rather, by the au pair). He settled down somewhat when his sister arrived, but he didn't quite fit the pureblooded, high society name of his family. Their parents weren't especially present during his childhood, often travelling and enjoying the high life, and Edgar felt it was his duty to make sure his little sister was entertained. He would invent elaborate games that often ending with some priceless object being broken in the house (and a whole lot of laughter from the two Bones children). When the games grew tiresome, they went about pranking whatever poor au pair had decided to give the position a go (though they often left when it was clear the children were not an easy ride). Edgar enjoyed his childhood immensely with Amelia and he was not quite ready to leave it behind for Hogwarts (or rather, he wasn't happy to leave his sister alone). Hogwarts His years at Hogwarts began tempestuously. He did everything in his power to get excluded--and he might well have succeeded had it not been for his Head of House. Minerva managed to reason with him, pointing out that getting himself excluded wouldn't do much good when Amelia undoubtedly received her letter to attend the school in a few years. It took a while for him to calm down but in the end Edgar began to foster his abilities. It was during this time that he expanded his understanding of the muggle world. His dorm-mates introduced him to muggle music and from that point on he was hooked on finding more information. His first foray into the muggle world was quite an experience, spending most of it with wide-eyes and questions bubbling from his lips. Academically, he excelled in DADA and Charms, but almost fell short of the Potions requirement for the Auror programme. He's proud that he managed to get the grade with a lot of perseverance but was happy to put his cauldron days behind him once he graduated. Post-Hogwarts The Hit Wizard training programme was the most trying experience of his life. While he had become somewhat disciplined at Hogwarts, it was nothing compared to what was expected. There were several times when he doubted his decision--that he didn't have the mental stamina to get through the tougher trials. It seemed, again, that he looked to the strong female figures in his life. Amelia pushed him through the final hurdles and he couldn't have been more grateful for that. In the end, he knew he couldn't have been the only one to have doubts through such a trying situation, but he still has moments where he thinks he was. He gets off on the adrenaline rushes of finding and hunting dark wizards, but he does not always deal well with the failures (especially when loss of life is involved). This aspect of his personality was tested thoroughly during the war, as while he caught many dark wizards within his team, there were several causalities that will always remain with him: the young girl blown to pieces before his eyes; the elderly couple who stayed behind to save their damn cat; the muggle shopping centre that was destroyed in the blink of an eye. He keeps these memories with him due to a mixture of respect and guilt, but he doesn't openly discuss them with anyone. |
