Your character's full name: Samuel Evans
Birthday (age): May 4th, 1994 / 17
Birthplace: Nashville, TN
Class: Class of 2012
Sexuality: Sam likes girls.
School Activities: Glee club, football team.
Summer Job: Delivery boy at Carl's Pizza.

History:
Sam's parents, Mike and Linda, met in college. He was the smart business student, and she was the former cheerleader. Their chemistry was undeniable; they began dating almost immediately, and Mike proposed the summer after their junior year. Both were Southern born and bred and planned on settling down in Tennessee. Bigger cities meant better job opportunities, though, so they bought their first house just outside of Nashville a few months after graduation. Having a kid wasn't a part of their two-year plan, but accidents happen and a few months after moving in, Linda learned she was pregnant with Sam.

Despite the baby being a surprise, Sam had a good childhood. His parents both worked hard to ensure he was raised right. They were never rich, but they had enough to get by. In school, Sam wasn't the best student. He struggled learning how to read. He struggled learning how to write. Math was especially difficult - the numbers were always jumbled around. On top of that, he was a little chubby for his age and not the most popular kid in his elementary school. He liked comic books more than he liked climbing trees. Superheroes were more intriguing than girls. Kids made fun of his mouth, the same mouth his dad had, and the fact that he was shorter and heavier than most of the other kids.

In the third grade, his teachers realized that Sam was dyslexic. He began receiving special attention at school, which helped boost both his performance and his confidence. That same year, his mom became pregnant for the second time and his little brother, Steven, was born. He loved being a big brother. He loved helping around the house with Stevie.

Middle school brought about big changes. First, his dad got a promotion. That summer the Evans family began eating healthier, now that they could afford to do so; his mom enrolled Sam in various camps, where he began to realize that he was actually pretty good at sports. He also hit a growth spurt and grew a few inches, and started throwing his snack foods in the trashcan when no one was looking. In all reality, eating less junk meant fitting in better - he'd just wished he'd learned that sooner. In the end, though, Sam was no longer the chubby kid. In fact, he was more in shape than most of his classmates.

Second, his parents had another baby. His little sister Stacy. Sam was fiercely protective over his younger siblings, who looked more and more like him every day. They didn't have to worry about financial issues. In fact, Mike was doing well enough that Linda was able to quit her job to become a stay at home mom with the kids.

Third, his parents breached the subject of boarding school. Sam wasn't excelling in school. His grades were still low and he didn't have that many friends. A private school where he'd be forced to live with guys his own age seemed like the perfect answer. Sam went without complaint. He blossomed there, the way he'd never really been able to in public school. He became more outgoing, more social. He worked harder in class. He made friends. Friends who enjoyed some of the same nerdy things he liked, but also friends he could toss a football around with. He wasn't exactly hitting it off with the ladies, but only because it was an all boys' school. There were no ladies to be found.

Sam would've been happy to stay in Tennessee until graduation, but then his dad was offered a job he couldn't refuse. It meant transferring the entire family up to Lima, Ohio. Sam complained at first - he wanted to stay at his school, but his mom didn't want him to be so far from home, and besides, she thought he was ready to give public school another go. This time around, Sam wanted to be popular. He wanted to be well-liked. He stopped drinking soda altogether, refused to put even the smallest piece of chocolate in his mouth. He worked out every day. He even went as far as dyeing his hair blonder the night before his first day at McKinley. For the first time in his life, he thought he looked pretty good.

The first few weeks were like a dream. He made quarterback. Girls were looking at him. Guys were being cool to him. He was approached about Glee club, but it took a while to give in and join - though once he had, he was more than glad he did. He loved to sing. He loved Quinn - or, well, he thought he did. (Though he'd never told anyone, she was actually his first girlfriend.) But he wasn't exactly heartbroken when they went their separate ways. Other girls came and went. Sam was enjoying finally feeling like a real high schooler. Doing the dumb, irresponsible things that high schoolers got to do.

And then it happened. Out of the blue. Sam's dad lost his job. At first, they were sure he'd land back on his feet quickly - he was smart and qualified, it should've been easy for him to find another job. Right? But it wasn't. No one was hiring. His mom, not having worked for the last five years, couldn't find anything either. They had nothing in savings. No more shopping trips. The only food they bought was the generic brand. They sold their belongings. And then the house went. They moved what was left of their belongings into a tiny, crappy motel room - and all along, Sam's biggest fear was that everyone else would find out.

When the secret did get out, and no, he wasn't sleeping with Kurt or Quinn, they were all surprisingly cool. He has to work long hours at the pizza joint and stay on top of his homework and take care of his siblings, but he has his friends. And through it all he found Mercedes, who is a pretty amazing girl - even if no one else knows about them yet. He's looking forward to his off-time this summer, when he can just hang out and be himself. Especially if it means getting out of the motel.

Personality
Sam's first and foremost a big dork. He's mostly unashamed of the nerdy things he likes - comic books and fantasy movies and video games. But when it comes to popularity, everything else falls wayside. He wants to be cool. He wants to be on top. The corny jokes and bad impressions are products of a bad habit. Actually, he thinks they're pretty funny.

He cares about his family a lot. His little brother and sister come first. When the money situation became tight, he went out and got a job first thing. More than half of his paycheck goes straight to his parents every week. His friends are important to him too. He'll stick up for anyone, no matter the cost. He's open-minded and tolerant. He likes to think he can get along with just about anyone.

He knows he's not the sharpest tool in the shed, but he resents being called dumb. He's not a complete idiot, after all. His social skills are a bit more stunted than most high schoolers, what with being the chubby loser until puberty and then the all boys' school for the next few years after that. Some might say he falls headfirst into things too quickly. Sure, he's a little naive. He's definitely no Casanova but he does enjoy flirting with girls. He and Mercedes have recently gotten together... although no one else knows.

Appearance
Sam's secretly consumed with the way he looks, even if he tries to downplay it. There's a reason he puts in hard hours at the gym, and he likes to show off what he works hard for. Having a six-pack doesn't come easy, after all. What's the point if no one's around to admire it? Lately, he hasn't been able to eat as well as he'd like - being healthy was expensive, and he didn't have a lot of money to blow anymore - but he still finds time to work out and does his best to avoid sweets.

He's always been a blond, but it used to be a darker, dirty blond. Now, another secret of his, for the past year he's been dyeing it much lighter. He thinks it makes him look cool. He probably needs a haircut, but he'll get around to that eventually.

Sam's wardrobe has been seriously limited since his dad's job loss. He sticks to mostly jeans and tshirts, though now and again he'll bust out some of the clothes Kurt donated his way. He's probably unhealthily attached to his letterman's jacket, though now that it's summer he's had to retire it for the season.

And, of course, five nights a week, he wears his red work shirt and baseball hat, usually splattered with pizza sauce. Definitely not his favorite articles of clothing, but it's part of the job.

Thread Sample:
Sam was tired, and he smelled like pizza. He kept a bottle of cologne in his glove compartment now, for when he didn't have time to clean up after work, but even though he'd spritzed himself three times and drove with the windows down he could still smell the pizza. He probably could've used a hot shower and a nap, but everyone was hanging out at Finn's house, and his mom had taken the kids to the playground for the afternoon, so he wasn't going to pass this up.

He parked a street away and change shirts in the car, throwing his work polo into the backseat and pulling a clean vneck on. Next, he ran his hands through his hair a few times - it was getting really long now; he needed a haircut pretty badly, but it wasn't like he had the spare time or money to schedule an appointment. He decided he looked decent enough and climbed out, making his way to the backyard where his friends were spread out around the lawn.

"Hey guys," Sam said, letting his eyes linger on Mercedes for a quick moment and flashing her a smile before dropping down on the ground beside Puck. He stretched his legs out, tipping his face up towards the sun. First day of summer. He couldn't have been more ready if he tried.
