Though his appearances will probably be a little sparse this time around. OWL SCORES: N/A FAMILY: Milton Ridgebit personality: Just last year if you were to describe Erik it would be something along the lines of ambitious, charismatic, approachable. He had a shining personality, something that a lot of people might even aspire to be. But when his mom died over the Summer, and he relocated to live with his father and his family. People that he never had a relationship with, and he hadn't really had much relationship with his father since he was 12. Erik has developed a shell, a wall, if you please. And a serious case of apathy. Understandably Erik has a chip on his shoulder. He's angry, and he doesn't know how to grieve. He's stuck living in a family that he feels that he has no part of. His step mother doesn't like him and he feels hurt by his father's obvious preference of his sister. A sister he has only really met a handful of times. Erik in comparison is now much more quiet. He's brooding, and is almost constantly in deep thought. Where as previously he could and would jump into most conversations. Actively find something productive to do. Where as now whenever he can he tries to find a quiet place and nap if he can. history: Milton and Hattie were a very unlikely couple. He was the descendant of Harvey Ridgebit, and was the heir to dragon sanctuaries all over the globe and the fortune that came with it. The most famous residing in Romania. She was the shop keeper in an apothecary, descendant to Jim MacLeod. And heir to quite the chocolate frog card collection. The way that Erik understands it his father would come to the apothecary almost daily just to spend time with his mother until she finally agreed to go out with him. They were wildly in love for years. Lived in a little place together, and baby made three. Everything seemed to be going very well, but several years after Erik's birth, Milton met Temperance. Who seemed to be the perfect wife for someone of Milton's breeding. In fact that was what was keeping Milton from marrying Hattie. He would be immediately cut off. Milton Ridgebit marry a halfblood, Hufflepuff from east London? That was that, Milton left for this picture perfect family that started with marrying Temperance. Hattie was devastated, and for a while they stayed with her parents until she could get on her feet again. It wasn't a long wait, Hattie was resilient. There was a small child she had to take care of. Erik could easily say that he had the best childhood, even without a father. Who to his defense did write him a letter every so often. Would sometimes even take him out for an ice cream and such. While his relationship with his father wasn't the best, that was alright for Erik because he had his mother. Because she was a single, working, mother, Hattie would frequently have to take him to Slug & Jigger's apothecary with her, and that's where he did a lot of his pre-Hogwarts learning. Hattie worked to the bone in order to care for her son. Money was deposited monthly into her account by Milton to ensure that she didn't have to work a day in her life. But Hattie would always deposit that straight into Erik's account. Hattie enjoyed working, but most importantly she wanted to show her son that work was not below him. Humbleness was a very important human trait. When the time came for Erik to leave for Hogwarts, he actually cried a bit on the train. But that ended fairly soon, he quickly made friends. Erik had inherited his mother's charisma and her knack at making people feel comfortable. But although he was much like his mother, it came as a complete surprise to him when the hat placed him in Slytherin. He was like his father in more ways than he thought. But the hat was right, Erik had an ambition that was envious to even some Slytherin's. Erik wanted to be head boy one day. And good grades was the first step, he worked hard for his E's and O's. Joined the dueling club when he discovered how much he enjoyed wand magic. Still had lots of friends, even went on a date or two. This carried on for four years. When he came back for the Summer his mother was proud, as always. But this time when she was at work he didn't have to go with her. Hattie said that he was a young man who could take of himself. Erik would do typical teenager things, hand out with friends. Be back home before his mother. It was a normal day. He was later than usual, much later actually, he had lost track of time and he was almost an hour late. Erik floo'd back apologizing very loudly as he entered the den, but he was stopped cold when there wasn't a single light on in the house. Nor could he smell the cooking of supper. But there was a very loud knocking at the front door. When he opened the door his life changed forever. Hattie MacLeod had been killed in an incident outside of the apothecary. They were unsure if it was an accident or not, blah blah blah. Erik hardly remembers the conversation, it felt like a bad dream. And it felt like a nightmare when he had to floo his father to ask him if he could live with him. There was no hesitation in his answer, but it was easy to tell for Erik that Milton wasn't sure how his wife would like it. Temperance tolerated him, and if Erik didn't have to focus on how to breathe it would have bothered him more. The next few weeks were a blur, from his mother's funeral which he noted that room had filled up to max capacity. And when an official from the ministry came to give him his inheritance. All the bits and bobs his mother collected, family albums, and two Gringott's keys. Until it was time to go to Diagon Alley to buy his things for his fifth year, Erik hardly left his room. He didn't write anyone, nor did he visit. In fact he had slept more than he ever had in his life. Milton refused to bring up his breakfast the day he got his school supply letter. If Erik hadn't been so hungry he probably would have just skipped breakfast. But he meandered into the dining room, Temperance said good morning to him, without looking at him, mind you. Sylvie who actually did like him quite a bit said good morning with bits of egg still in her mouth for which she was scolded for. Erik picked up a muffin and his letter. When he opened it, a bit of metal fell out to the floor. A prefect badge. Erik almost laughed in irony, just months before he wanted this so badly. And now he would give just anything back for things to go back to the way they were. He almost chucked it across the room. It was the first time in a long time that he had been to Diagon Alley, getting his school supplies. It was also when he realized how much money his mother had saved up for him. He decided that he should probably close out her account, since apparently he had his own. The modest amount of money he took out to place in his own vault looked pathetic compared to the mountains of gold in his own vault. This was the third time this month he had to remember how to breathe. Why didn't she use any of this money? Hattie wouldn't have had to work as hard, or even at all. And she wouldn't be dead. His hand shook while he filled up his money pouch. Moving forward was going to be a lot harder than he thought. He saved buying his potion supplies for last, it was hard to enter the building knowing that his mother had died just outside it's doors. Mr. Jigg refused any money for his supplies, because his mother had done their family such a great service. And it was the least they could do for him. Normally Erik would insist, but he was just so tired. Too tired. Too tired to fight. The second they came home he just slept. ooc: NAME: Amanda EMAIL: amandafrickinrules@gmail.com AIM: je enculer regle TIME ZONE: Eastern PLAY-BY: Ezra Miller WOULD YOU BE WILLING TO LET YOUR CHARACTER BE INJURED? I guess I left it there yesterday. Just let me know. [Hexed to self] I really need something to do, something to take my mind off of things. I'm starting to get some pretty messed up dreams now. I also need to see if I can get my partner switched for my rounds. She's starting to get really shrill. I just don't understand why she wouldn't just take the money. Maybe if I knew about it earlier I could have made her see reason. I just don't get it. Maybe if I went to work with her things would have been different. I could have helped then.
