He'd said that he couldn't be selfish with her. The tear escaping as he advised that he wished she didn't have to forget...it almost drove Elena over the edge herself. She'd never seen Damon show that level of intensity. He had opened himself up to her so much and then wanted to shut it all back up again Because he thought she deserved someone better? And then the vervain necklace was back around her neck and Damon was gone.

He couldn't decide that for her. It had taken her a few minutes to stop being stunned and actually fully process everything he had been saying. To make a decision that she would be the one who decided who she should be with. Slipping on a hoodie and a pair of yoga pants in exchange for the pajamas Damon had deemed cute, Elena slipped on some sandals and moved quietly down the stairs, keys in hand. She had to talk to him.

It was a good thing Mystic Falls wasn't a large town. A long drive would have just given her more time to think, to get worked up. And she was already starting to get angry at the gall. He had tried to compel her. To have her forget what he'd said. He couldn't do that!

The car came to a sudden halt outside the boarding house and Elena headed directly for the front door. It wasn't locked; there wasn't really a need with two vampires living inside. Unwilling to call out, not knowing if Stefan was there or not, Elena stalked forward. First stop the parlor. If he wasn't there, she'd try his bedroom.

Damon had left Elena after he'd compelled her to forget what he'd said. When he'd seen her on top of the staircase, the relief and the joy at seeing Stefan there, it was enough to break him. Especially because for one fleeting moment, he had thought she had had those feelings for him,. Joy and relief that he was there. Of course it was foolish of him to think that.

But afterward he'd been filled with his need to tell her how he felt, despite knowing that there was really nothing that he could say that would change the way she felt about him, or the fact that she wanted Stefan and not him.

But it had hurt him to say it too, to admit to her that he didn't deserve her, despite how true it was. Elena was all goodness and he was a monster. Monsters didn't deserve to get the girl.

He went back to the boardinghouse and instantly into the parlor to get himself a scotch. He poured one and then he sunk into the couch, staring at the fireplace as he became lost in thought about the brunette that he couldn't seem to rid from his mind. It was like she was haunting him, despite being alive.

And there he was. Sitting on the sofa, no doubt drowning his supposed sorrows in his favorite drink. Really, it was a miracle Damon didn't react as she all but stomped into the room. Unless he was just deep in thought. Moving around the side of the couch, Elena leaned in, snatching the glass from his hand.

"You. Ass." She still wasn't sure what to do: throw the glass into the fireplace or dump the drink on him.

	Damon was actually surprised by her appearance, too wrapped up in his own thoughts to notice that she had stomped into the room. "What have I done to offend you now, Elena?" he asked, assuming it was something to do with his behavior that she didn't approve of. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	The fireplace it was. She barely flinched as the glass shattered, turning back to Damon. "You can't do that," Elena informed him. Damon was surprised but he didn't flinch either. He paused as he words sunk in. She remember what he'd said. He figured there was no point in asking her how. She must have had vervain on her somehow.

"Why not, Elena?" he asked. "It's not like anything I say would make a difference to you. 'I love Stefan, it's always gonna be Stefan'," he said, repeating the words that she had said to him. "It doesn't make what I said any less true either," he said, meaning that he didn't deserve her.

"Because I should get the chance to make up my own mind, damnit." Having her own words thrown back in her face wasn't really serving to put her in any better of a mood. She could recognize that he, perhaps, had his own reasons for doing what he had done. But it didn't make it right.

"...you opened up to me more than you ever have. And you do not get to choose to erase that. You don't get to completely erase the change." Because it had definitely changed things.

She sighed softly, one hand running through her hair. "I'm the one who decides who I get to be in a relationship with. Not you."

He stood up and stepped closer to her, looking down at her intently.

"I thought you already had made the choice, Elena. I don't regret what I said, I don't regret it because I needed you to know it for just a moment, I needed to say it because I have been holding it in for too long. But honestly can you blame me for wanting to make you forget? When you were against me saying it to being with. You said 'Don't', because you know what I was going to say. You've known for a long time how I feel, Elena. So why is now so different?" he asked.

	"Because it is." That wasn't going to be a good enough answer, Elena knew that as soon as the words left her lips. She looked up at him, eyes wide. "Because it would make me start to question things," she answered, hands twisting together. She looked up to him, trying to phrase everything correctly. To not mis-speak. Because if she did that, he might not give her the chance to correct herself.

"When you first came to Mystic Falls, I told you I wasn't Katherine." They'd been in the high school parking lot and he'd tried to kiss her. "I didn't want to be the girl that you and Stefan fought over." Katherine may have reveled in it. Elena did not.

"I didn't want to give myself the chance to love you." To cause more friction between the brothers. "....but I do."

	Before she could say anything more, his lips were on hers. And she couldn't do anything except return the kiss. Arms wound around his neck, pulling herself tightly against him. And as the kiss ended, she could only stare up at him. "Damon..." They shouldn't be doing this out in the open. Not where Stefan could walk in on them at any moment. 	He nodded his head at her. "I know, Elena. You're still with Stefan. And we really shouldn't. Doesn't stop me from wanting to have you right here," he said. "Are you doing to end things with him?" he asked. He couldn't just be a fling on the side to her, not like he'd been with Katherine. Because that's all he'd really been to the woman. 	It didn't stop her for yearning, either. And she couldn't bring herself to pull back, content to stay in his arms for the moment. Even if it risked another kiss. Or being interrupted. "I have to." 	"Bedroom?" he asked her, knowing that that one word would be enough. "Or... we could take my car and drive to the falls," he said. 	He nodded and he took her hand, leading her out to his car. He opened the passenger door and held it open for her to get in. Once she was he blurred to his own side and got in, starting the car quickly. He was eager to touch her and feel her lips pressed against his again. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)
