He looks a bit younger than he actually is, given the fact that he's got big brown eyes that always seem to be hiding behind his glasses. (They're prescription; Evan's quite blind without them, though he does own contacts as well.) Given that he's not the tallest guy - he's 5'9", and no, he doesn't care if you tower over him - he doesn't always stand out from the crowd. That's okay, Evan rather likes it that way. He's very comfortable in his own skin, with his profession and his lot in life, and no one's ever going to tell him differently. Like his sisters Erin and Erika, Evan shares the family's dark hair and eyes, as well as Erin's love of tattoos, having gotten a few because she did. They're all easily covered though, but Evan knows they're there, and that's enough for him. His style of dress usually remains pretty casual - tees, jeans and hoodies, but he does have a penchant for a good blazer or two. Maybe this makes him look just this side of emo, but Evan doesn't care. He does, however, also like wearing button downs and ties with the shirt untucked, a very messy way of dressing up. Pairing this with the fact that his hair is just a little too long to be considered neat, he can sometimes have the appearance of just rolling out of bed. [top] Personality The best word to describe Evan is "quirky." It's hard to pinpoint exactly what makes him tick, though he's a friendly enough guy, and doesn't mind striking up a conversation with someone he doesn't know. Evan is that kid in the back of the classroom making snarky comments; you might not always hear what he's saying, but those who do have a hard time keeping from laughing. He's a bit of a prankster, truth be told, and he enjoys a good joke or twelve - though it's all in good fun, he's not the type to belittle someone just to be an asshole. Being an embalmer in his family's funeral home, and quite proud of his job, Evan is not afraid of death and has a healthy amount of respect for his family's business. He also doesn't have any qualms telling people that he works with dead people every day and that he hopes never to see them in his place of business. If you don't like what he does for a living, you really can go to hell, in his opinion. Sure, this doesn't really help in the romance department, but Evan would rather be happy with who he is and spend his time with someone who appreciates him for that, not pretending to be someone he's not. It's taken him some time to come to this realization, but he tries not to let others' opinions matter to much to him. And for the most part, he succeeds. [top] Strengths
Weaknesses
Special Skills/Abilities Aside from actually being quite good at his job, not something he tends to brag about because it creeps people out, Evan is actually quite good at avoiding the bachelor apartment curse. He cooks, he cleans (mostly), AND he's capable of doing his own laundry, right down to folding it all and putting it away. [top] History Before the Light of May Evan Forsythe is the youngest of the Forsythe brood, proceeded by his two older sisters, Erika and Erin. Being the baby of the family and the only son, it did mean that his parents, Ethan and Rosemary, did dote on the boy... and it made him a target for the teasing of his older sisters. It was all in good fun, though, because soon Evan got old enough to fight back, it was on like Donkey Kong. For the most part, Evan had a normal childhood - as normal as a kid could have, growing up in and around the funeral home. He would follow his uncle around at work, learning bits and pieces of the trade as he grew older. There was a good amount of respect that went into taking care of the dead, not just the freaky ghost stories the other kids his age liked to tell about the place. Giving a relative a proper send off, giving a family the chance to grieve, that was an important job. Probably from the time he was in middle school, Evan knew he was going to go into the family business, much like Erin eventually went on to becoming a medical examiner. The other kids at school didn't really know how to handle him. Evan did establish his own little friend circle, and having Erika and Erin go through the same thing too helped ease the young man's growing pains. His true friends knew who he was, the fun loving guy with a quirky sense of humor, and anyone who couldn't understand that just wasn't worth his time. Romantically speaking, however, Evan didn't really have much luck until he was in college, attending the University of Michigan on scholarship. (Hey, having a family that's been in town forever had to help out somehow, right?) It was there that he met Dorcas, a British student who also happened to be a medium. Hanging out with psychics wasn't something new to him - Erin is a touch-know, after all - and Evan was pretty much taken with her. He even brought her home to meet his family... much to the chagrin of his sisters. Neither of them liked Dorcas much, but so long as Evan was happy, that was more important. It was no surprise to anyone involved when, after dating for a year, both Evan and Dorcas were ready to graduate from college and - surprise! She was going back to London. To her credit, she did ask Evan to come with her. To leave his entire life and everything he'd ever known behind. When he told about his hesitations, it resulted in a huge blowout of a fight - and Dorcas walked out on him, packed up her things, and went back to her home country. Evan couldn't lie, he moped. He moped a lot, actually. He spent the summer after his college graduation moping around Scarlet Oak, missing his ex and generally being miserable. And then, one morning, he woke up and decided that, hello, he needed to start living his life. There was no sense in living in the past, when he was a young guy with his entire life ahead of him. He was not yet a corpse and he'd be damned if they'd bury his ass any time soon. So, with that thought in mind, he started to get back in touch with his friends, he put the pieces of his life back together, and he officially joined the ranks of the other members of his family, becoming an embalmer at the Forsythe and Family Funeral Parlor. Evan loves his job, and he doesn't particularly care if someone has a problem with what he does for a living. It does, however, come with a secret fear - that someday he'll know the person he's embalming. For his family, that fear did become a reality in the wake of the demon attacks, when Roselyn Whelan, a close family friend, was killed by a demon. Erin was the one who had to conduct the autopsy and the thought of it really freaked Evan out. It was not that he was scared of death, just that the fact that something so brutal could kill one of his friends made his stomach churn. With the demons back now, he's just as uneasy, trying to make sure everyone he knows - hell, even people he's just met - are safe. [top] After the Light of May To be honest? Evan was pretty stoked about the Light of May. He's a big fan of being who you are and not being ashamed of it, so the fact that everyone could be open about their abilities without feeling like they needed to hide was an awesome thing. Granted, there was that whole joke with the vampire that Erin pulled on him - that was STILL not funny thank you very much - but it doesn't mean he's afraid of the supernatural. He probably should be, but he's not. Instead, Evan is cautiously curious, and if someone happens to reveal what they are to him, he'd accept it with a shrug of his shoulders and a smile. [top] Human ![]() The Forsythes have been in Scarlet Oak since forever. More information on fae-blooded individuals can be found over here.
