"Let''s see... ambition, in spades. Self-preserving... Some cunning... I can see you'd do well in Slytherin..." The hat said in the back of her head. She Looked up in the dark, almost hoping to see someone there in the dark. "Yet, Hufflepuff might bring out the best in you." He murmured as if talking to himself and completely ignoring Gwendolyn. Gwen shifted nervously in her seat. She didn't want to say it, but her heart completely sank when the hat didn't call out Slytherin right away. "Hmmm that doesn't make you happy does it. Well... then..."

"SLYTHERIN!" The hat called out, and with a grin of triumph, Gwendolyn tore off the hat, handed it back to Professor McGonagall and ran off like a shot to toward the Slytherin table before the hat had a chance to change its mind.
