Haksoo set down the radio. The call from one of his soldiers sent a chill down his spine. The flares were a special trick used by only his team, left along the paths they took into dangerous territory, they could be triggered by any number of things, rigged to traps with different colours to better help determine what could set them off and warn of danger or ambush from behind. White was always close to the ground, easily tripped by animals or by a walker. Easy enough to handle. Blue was close to roof height, and would have to be hit by something much bigger and could be avoided. Orange though was the worse, set to doors and windows, it wouldn't have been set off with just a few rumbles, but only if someone grabbed the handle and opened the door. And if that happened, it meant there was someone else around.
The nine soldiers Haksoo had come along with had their guns up and at the ready in an instant, moving into formation around the bridge to give them full cover and protect Jaesesongs ground. The team held steady as they waited for orders. Haksoo turned to Jaeseong with a serious expression.
"I am going to get your team out of here, but you're going to have to listen and trust me right now."
Haksoo gave Jaeseong a pat on the shoulder before moving off himself, not bothering to wait for the kid to answer. He didn't have time to explain every little detail of what was going on and wasn't going to either.
"You know the drill. Search and silence, one mile. Go."
The men moved off in teams of two, searching the area and shutting off any nearby car alarms that would draw in more undead to this area. He knew he wouldn't have to tell them to pick up any extra supplies left around on the way, though he had doubts a lot would be left behind now. Haksoo grabbed hold of one of his men before he could run off with the others.
"Ricky, do you still have the toy that you love so much?"
A wide smile spread over the soldiers face and he immediately pulled off his backpack and started to rummage through it for the little drone machine that Haksoo hated for being loud and bulky, but today it might actually help. It only took a few minutes to get it up and flying into the air. The tiny screen that paired along with to show them what the drone was seeing was having a fit of static just like the radio, as well, but it was clear for a few seconds at a time. Haksoo directed Ricky to do a full 360 to get a good areal look of the area around them before sending it down the path they secured to get here, the one they were going to use to get home. The drone was fast for its petite size and quickly caught up with the leemans before speeding on overhead further down the road. The damaged caused by the quake was a lot worse the further it went on, but that wasn't going to be the end of their trouble.
