*Low on ammo, low on food, and low on just about every other supply that they had, and stuck in a city that was slowly being taken over by undead...the outlook did not look too good. Hak-soo could almost feel the odds being stacked against him and the small group of civilians that he had managed to keep gathered together, though as bleak as it seemed, he hadn't given up complete hope just yet. He was much too stubborn for that.
He shouldn't have been out in a mess like this in the first place, much less on his own and it hadn't started out that way, but what was supposed to be a routine scouting mission to investigate recent disappearances within the small city had quickly become much more dangerous, and all the training in the world couldn't have prepared the small group of soldiers for the freak storm or the hoard of undead that spilled into the city along side of it.
Half of the small group of soldiers were gone by the end of the first night and by the end of the first week the numbers dwindled further until there were just two. The truth behind why the soldiers were falling so quickly was revealed to be much more horrifying then Hak-soo was prepared for.
Having gathered together a group of civilians and leading them toward a safe point at the outskirts of the city, Hak-soo witnessed his fellow soldier brought down, not by undead, but shot down by those they had been trying so hard to protect and keep safe and without even skipping a breath they turned on Hak-soo next. They were left as bait, bleeding and weaponless along the side of the road to serve as a distraction and lure to the undead so that the remaining group could make it that much further.
His friend had put up a bit of a fight and suffered a gun shot wound to the chest; the sound of gun fire no doubt would draw the hoarde this way.
Hak-soo had tried to stop the bleeding the best that he could; but without proper supplies he knew his friend wouldn't last long in such a state and the civilians had taken off while he had been distracted. His own wound was much less severe as he had only been shot in the leg, though crippling in its own way, Hak-soo imagined that was more likely the point and likely the fate others had shared.
Hak-soo had pushed himself up and limped to the end of the block to try and find something that would help him drag his injured companion somewhere safer. He had been gone for barely more then a minute when he heard the horrid screams start, a sound that would forever be lodged in his memories, and turned back despite better judgement and knowing it was already too late to see undead already ripping into the other soldier down the block.
-----------------------------
He awoke shivering with cold, though his body felt like it was on fire and drenched in sweat. Hak-soo waited a few minutes for his eyes to adjust to the darkness that surrounded him and his racing heart to return to a normal rhythm again. It was only then that he realized that he had woken up on the floor and pushed himself up, pressing his back against the hard metal of the bed frame that sat beside him and running his fingers through his sleep tangled hair. Another nightmare, though it was always the same one. He had thought this would have ended when they got rid of the monster that was lurking about the house, but it seemed just as vivid and clear as ever. Maybe even a bit more disturbing now, since there was nothing else to blame.
Hak-soo rested his forehead against an arm, propped up by his knee. He wasn't about to wander about the house so late at night, but he definitely wasn't going to get anymore sleep either.*
