You never appreciate the holidays as an adult the way you did as a kid. Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas, but the look on Callisto's face whenever she looks at the tree is priceless. She calls the lights 'stars', which makes sense since I'm pretty sure my mother artistically placed them to make constellations. I predict she'll be a Ravenclaw - I'm pretty sure she already knows it's our father in the Santa suit. She even told me that he placed Nora's gift under the wrong tree, since it should be at her house.

Like I said, the kid is smart.

Well I don't think it was fair of her to expect you to not make plans with Mattie on Christmas. You didn't abandon her, you just...left her to deal with her own family issues this year. I'm sure she won't be upset with you for long.

Maybe you can send her an owl on Christmas to show that you're thinking about her. Or, see if you can make arrangements with Mattie so that you can make a pit stop at Melania's in the morning before going to her house, if you really feel that guilty about it.

	Maybe going away for a bit wouldn't be the worst thing for her. Don't beat yourself up over it. If she decides she doesn't want to come back, it won't be because you missed Christmas. She may realize how much she misses her friends. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)
