I was raised to be a pretty free spirit, but to be responsible with said freedom. I guess it's not fair to say that they pushed me, because they never really did, but they didn't have to either.
It's a take on the religious dances that were done by Native Americans in the past. The fancy shawl is a woman's only dance that's based loosely on the war dance that the men do but a little different. It's mean to symbolize the opening of a cocoon as a butterfly emerges. The women have these ornate shawls that are meant to kind of represent the wings of the butterfly. There's a video here if you're interested in seeing what that looks like.
My father is half-Vietnamese and half English. His mother was born and raised in Vietnam until she was around eight years old, I believe, and then they moved to the US. She met his father in her twenties and they were married. He is, as far as we know, just your typical anglo-saxon. The rest is on my mother's side. Her grandmother, I believe, was full-blooded Apache and her grandfather was first generation Irish-American. It's all been muddied down a little bit since then.
