Do you think they'll do the cup thing? Why is the cup a thing?

And you'll be mine and maybe I won't find them so annoying.

Breaking of the glass is probably the most complicated part of a Jewish wedding. Some say it's to temper the joy, get people's attention; others say it's a symbol that the couple will be rebuilding a new temple in their shared home; others say it's to remember the destruction of the Temple of Jerusalem. You're insulting if you say mazel tov or being a downer if you recite If I forget thee / O Jerusalem. Can't win, really.

Based on the above, it might at least be interesting? All the intricacies of it all, waiting to be explored.

Why would you want to temper joy? I like the new temple thing.

Be prepared for a lot of questions.

I have no idea. Weddings are supposed to my joyous in my mind, but I'm also terrible at being Jewish. The new temple sentiment's a good one, which is why I'd happily stick with cheering my congratulations and being done with it.

I'll do my best. I won't be able to help with the Hebrew at all though. Learned just enough to get through my bar mitzvah and never looked at it again.

Good to know. We'll be the clueless couple in the back middle? front row.

This is when subtitles in real life would be awesome.

At least we'll be clueless together. But now I'm remembering... I might actually understand Hebrew now. I'm a living Google Translate for the spoken word!

That's right! Perfect. You can whisper the important translations to me.

Why couldn't that part of my power shown up when I was thirteen? Jeez. Better late then never, I guess.

By the way, I want to see Amy on our road trip. I need to see you all Bar Mitzvah'ed out.

Sure! I think she keeps that kind of stuff. I know there's pictures somewhere from her bat mitzvah, so I guess there might be some from my bar mitzvah. My ceremony was a hell of a lot shorter than hers, but there's probably a picture or two.

Any pictures are good! And cute stories. Those are good too.

Amy's got plenty of those. Her memory's better than mine on that front, so it'll definitely be worth stopping by.

That excited, huh? I'll make sure to butter her up by bringing a gift. She always loses her mind over animal figurines. Stone, wood, glass, doesn't matter the material – if it's a little forest creature, she loves it.

Not really. As long as I have clothes on my body and a roof over my head? I'm good.

How about you? Anything you like? Tell me every detail so I can take notes for future gifts to shower you with. Details, details. Favorite fabrics that don't bother you? Can you stand jewelry? Maybe some teddy bears to worship you as a hero like in that dream of yours...

You make idea-gathering difficult, you know. You're lucky I like to try to figure shit out anyway.

You know how cotton shirts feel after you've washed them a million times? And how that type of material has come back in style with vintage clothing? That's my favorite to wear. Wool-cotton blends are good for coats and blankets. I like the weight. I..actually never tried jewelry. So I don't know. Teddy bears are good if they're soft, and I'm never living that dream done am I?

You said you liked puzzles...

Everything has been filed away, duly noted. I have an idea now, a theory to test. Be prepared. Also, no: you're never living that dream down. As is our tradition, I'm accusing you of being adorable for having it to begin with.

So I did.

Prepared for what? David--what are you planning...? And as our tradition, I demure and say you are.

Hey, there's a lot of nights to cover for Hanukkah, plus Christmas stuff too. I have to be prepared with a couple more gift ideas, that's all. Now I know a little more and am better prepared. No plots, no plans! Just want to make sure I give some fun things and useful things too.

PS- No, you.

Don't go overboard, darling. And eight nights, right?

Lies.

Exactly! Eight gifts, plus a separate Christmas gift because of reasons. Because I don't ever go overboard, ever. Obviously.
