PERSONALITY Geralt is grouchy. The end. At least that’s how it seems on the surface. The truth is there is much more going on beneath that gruff loner persona and gravely baritone.
People say that Witchers have no emotions, that they can’t feel anything. The opposite is the truth. With Geralt, he feels things very deeply. When someone is either let in, or worms their way into his life, he cares more than might be expected. He would and has gone to great lengths to protect, save or rescue those he cares for. Sometimes at great personal risk.
He is no mindless hunter of monsters or fighter. He prefers not to get involved in politics or wars, but somehow he always finds himself neck deep in both. Once he swears to a cause he is loyal to the end…unless he learns that he was deceived or betrayed. Then it gets really ugly with Geralt dead set on teaching them the error of their ways. He has a strong moral code that he will not compromise for anyone or anything.
It could be counted on one human hand how many people Geralt has loved. Lovers, he’s had his fair share. Those were mostly dalliances. He has only ever loved one woman and that ended sort of badly. He is really finished with Yennifer as a love interest. They both betrayed each other, but Geralt only allows himself to be hurt once. It also didn’t help that Yennifer used Ciri, Geralt’s adoptive daughter. He never intended for Cirilla to be part of his life. It had been an off-hand comment that got him into that. Once he took it seriously, however, he took his responsibilities without hesitation, and he came to adore Ciri.
He is not incapable of making mistakes. More than once he has allowed his emotions to get the better of him…such as when he abandoned Jaskier, or when he made the wish to keep Yennifer in his life. He does learn from them, however, and does his best to make up for what he caused.
