My (by now) regular Oh, LJ, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! update
So, LJ is once again pissing off the Harry Potter fandom. And if you want to target a fandom, lord knows that's the one that's going to get you the least amount of attention and trouble. /sarcasm

Last time, I really didn't think they would enforce their newly updated rules unless they were backed into a corner, but I was wrong. I think it's pretty obvious that they're cleaning up their site in order to make it look more appealing to investors/buyers.

So, with this in mind, I've decided that I'm going to start cross-posting to my InsaneJournal, which I prefer for completely superficial reasons. Namely that I've fixed it up with a layout, I like the default comment pages better than the GJ version and I've been keeping my icons up-to-date with what I have on LJ.

Also? I purchased a permanent account, which was only a few bucks more than a year's paid account on LJ, figuring it would be a good place to do just this: keep a backup of my journal.

And also? I have 300 userpics, which can be up to 100 kB each. All those animated icons that always ended up looking like crap after they'd been LJ-ifyed? I could actually use the majority of them on IJ - the way they were intended to look. If I cared enough to go back and find them and resave them all. But future animations will definitely be made in different versions.

I've got a problem, though. I'm a moron and can't figure out how to add another user to Semagic. I know how to change the server setting so I can access IJ, but I don't know how to add it as a separate account. I'm assuming this can be done? I guess it wouldn't be a hardship to do it manually considering how rarely I post, but I'd really like to have it automated if possible.

As for fan-run journaling sites, I like the idea on principle, because I think you pretty much have to be in fandom to get it. However, some of what we do here isn't strictly speaking legal, and I'd hate to subject a fan-run site to that kind of exposure. So a fan-run site could never be as all-encompassing as LJ is. And since I'm inherently lazy, I'd prefer to have everything in the same place.

I've watched a lot of TV. Mostly just general impressions of
Bionic Woman
I can see why they're reworking the show so thoroughly, it really isn't very good. I did like the lead in that I think she inhabits the role as well as can be expected. I'm just not sure I want to watch it.

Sarah Connor Chronicles
I liked it. I mean, it's not great TV, but it's entertaining TV that'll keep me watching for probably a whole season. The concept might get tired after a while, but it all depends on how much they're willing to work on it.

Also, it looked good. Apart from Pushing Daisies, which belongs in a category all its own, visually, I've felt that most of TV fare lately has looked pretty boring, and, in places, amateurish. This may be due to the quality of video files, but so far the shows I've had issues with are: Chuck (better than most, but still on the dull side), Reaper, Mad Men (could have been awesome-looking. Wasn't.) and even Damages. Speaking of...

Damages
Okay, I really like this. The opening sequence, with Ellen all bloody in the streets and then at the police station? Preeeetty! I wanted to make icons before I even knew what the hell was going on. However, in episode 2 there was this scene on the street that looked like it had been filmed with a camcorder, and it completely took me out of the action because it looked bad. I hope that never happens again.

Love Patty, Glenn Close gives good bitch. Ellen was well cast. There's a vulnerability to the actress, and in the future scenes you can sense a hardened edge that's not really apparent in the flashback scenes, but it gives you an indication that she has it in her. Ted Danson skeeves me out, but then again, I imagine he's supposed to here.

Jane Hall
Whoever mentioned that the show got bad in the second half of season 1? You were absolutely right. What a steaming pile of crap! Remind me to never watch that show again. If it's even coming back. I can't imagine why anyone would greenlight it for a second season, but network decisions never fail to baffle me.

I added you! (I think.)

I saw your comment in [info]elz's journal on LJ about trying to figure out how to cross-post between LJ and IJ. If you figure it out, can you let me know? I figure I know how to cross-post (under Journal, choose Post to Multiple Journals), but I still haven't figured out how to add another user, and the help file is no help at all!

okay, hold on - I think I linked to it in my latest LJ post, because someone has posted how to do it with semagic. I haven't used semagic before and I haven't tried it out yet, but it looked like it would work... here's the post - you could give it a whirl?

I just saw your post and was about to comment there, but you beat me to it. I haven't tried crossposting yet, but I did get the tutorial to work in terms of adding users - AFTER reading the comments. Because apparently we're supposed to get that under Server Settings we're supposed to change the user name to the regular user name, with the added IJ, GJ, LJ or JF removed. I didn't, so thank goodness for smart people who comment, eh?

After you have the users I guess it's just a matter of selecting the ones you want to post to under Post to Multiple Journals. I hope, anyway.

That would make sense based on what I read. Here's hoping it's that simple, because I really would like to start cross-posting LJ/IJ and I don't really want to start posting both places separately!

I just test-posted a private entry and it worked fine. And since I use the same icon keywords on both journals, the correct icon was used in both cases as well. The one thing that didn't work was that the tags didn't post to the secondary journal (in this case InsaneJournal). Or, it could be that you can't update with new tags from Semagic to IJ, I don't know. I'll have to try using IJ as the primary journal sometime, just to see.
