So, I've been thinking that between the resorting and the current Quidditch mania which I don't see dying down any time in the foreseeable future that there might be some among the students here at Hogwarts who are going to feel a little left out.

I'm not sure what we can do but I thought that it might be worth mentioning to everyone.

So, I started thinking about how the resorting and things are going to affect the student body. And a lot of people are going to lose a large part of their support systems which might cause people to feel lonely or left out. And, let's be honest, the current Quidditch obsession (sorry Quiddich playing friends, you know I love all of you) might also make some people feel like they don't matter since all most of the school is talking about is Quidditch in one form or another. I mean, look at the journals. More than half of the posts and conversations have been about Quidditch and there are A LOT of us who don't play.

Anyway, I know that we can't do anything huge. But what I was thinking is that if we make an effort to so small things it might alleviate some of the bad feeling. Like comment in journals of people who don't get a lot of comments or something. I just don't want this resorting to make anyone feel bad about themselves, you know?

You could totally be a secret pirate. Did you find an eyepatch hidden in your trunk by chance?

Oh, I agree! I don't want anyone to feel left out and it would be really easy for them to.

I'm not sure what to do about it either but I'm sure we can think of something.

I was talking to Annie about it and she mentioned something about maybe doing special days where we focused on the different clubs and things which I think is a good idea. But there has to be more. I just need to think more. Hopefully someone else will have an amazing idea first.

I dunno, Linds. I mean I'm not anti people feeling good or whatever but there's a lot on this year, I dunno if I'll have time to babys for much between NEWTs and Quidditch and all.

We're all busy which is why I was suggesting something that doesn't take a huge investment of time. Just reply to a random person or two every week. That's all.

Well I guess I could do that. I mean I think I sort of do already maybe, it's not like I specifically only write to a couple people or anything and all about Quid.

For a lot of my friends that's the case.

I just...it's hard sometimes when you aren't a Quidditch player. It's easy to feel like you don't matter.

Look at the journals Corrie. How many people who aren't Quidditch players or aren't talking about Quidditch have had a bunch of replies? What is everyone talking about wherever you turn? They aren't talking about the play (unless they're William), they're not talking about Dance Club (unless they're Lennon or Amber). They're talking about the Quidditch teams. Who made them. Who the captains are. Who the captains are going to choose. Who will be the first person to lose their temper. Eighty percent of the conversations are about Quidditch.

And the thing is, if you don't play then there isn't a way to be a part of them.

I'm fine. I have a healthy enough ego and enough to worry about as it is. But there are people who are more easily hurt than I am. People who all this talk makes them feel lonely and small. And I just want them to feel like they're a part of this school too.

People talk about those things because that's what interests them, though. If more people were interested in the other things, it'd be that instead. You can't make people care about things they don't care about, or make them talk about things they don't. And it's not like anyone's stopped from talking about other things, or they can't go off with the other people that aren't part of it or don't care or whatever and talk about their things that we aren't part of.

It's like... like capitalism, I mean, only conversations. It just works out how it works out, it's not like anything's being forced or like it's personal or intentional.

And I mean there's private entries too, how do you know there aren't dozens of people talking about other things with their friends that have nothing to do with Quidditch at all, trading essay tips and things? There probably are, even, all over the place, you can't say that's all anyone's talking about when the public stuff's the only stuff you see, and that's not even including conversations in person.

We could do more dress up days, like pajama day, but for free this time so everyone can be involved. What about secret letter pals? Everyone can anonymously write nice letters to each other! Or we could write nice letters to everyone to make sure no one didn't do it and someone got left out.

I think that it will for a lot of people. But I'm trying to think about people who aren't like me and are shy who might be a bit out of sorts because the people they're used to aren't around as much anymore.

As far as I can tell there have been two ill advised romantic spectacles in the great hall and a boatload of Quidditch related drama in the journals. My dorm has been an interesting place.

I'm not sure. Maybe? But somehow I think that events thus far this year have been more dramatic than years past.

All exacerbated by the resorting, no doubt.

If you need to escape before we move, my dormitory is relatively sane. Just ignore Ross dashing in and out. He always does that.
