Politics LOYALTY/ALLIANCE: Dumbledore’s Army, Order of the Phoenix ROLE IN THE WAR: Luna was an active member in Dumbledore’s Army, and became one of the leaders when Harry, Ron and Hermione didn’t come back to school. Her being a fighter and a leader, combined with her father’s publishings in the Quibbler, are the reasons she was kidnapped by Death Eaters and held captive at Malfoy Manor. Not only is she good in terms of spellwork, she also brings hope, whether people believe in what she says or not. POLITICAL VIEWS: Luna believes in equal rights for everyone. To her, blood status doesn’t matter. She also doesn’t make distinctions when it comes to different magical beings. Appearance APPEARANCE: Luna is a rather petite girl, with long, wavy, dirty blonde hair that she usually wears down, but she has gotten accustomed to wearing it other ways across the years as well. She has grey eyes and generally wears a serene expression. While she used to wear odd combinations of clothes and jewelry that was usually made by herself, she has started wearing the more traditional witch fare of robes. She made this change in an effort to blend in with the crowd when she is out. Personality BOGGART: Her father being tortured. PATRONUS: Hare. LIKES: pudding, tea, stars, music, dancing, flying, making jewelry, butterbeer, quiet, feeling safe, seeing friends DISLIKES: curry, uniforms, sadness - both in herself and others, feeling exposed, insecurity STRENGTHS: calmness in the face of danger, the ability to believe in the impossible, rather good at Defensive spells, loyalty, faith, imagination WEAKNESSES: the inability to discern real from imaginary, blind faith, a bit of a social outcast, cooking anything fancier than toast DETAILED PERSONALITY: Luna is sweet to a fault, almost in a constant state of childlike innocence. She does have common sense and knows how to use it, but that is commonly masked by her oddity and tendency to talk about nonsense. The Quibbler's presence in her life has not helped her have a firm grasp on reality, but her ability to believe in the imaginary and impossible is sometimes an asset, and it really helped her excel in Divination when she was in school. Despite her belief in a lot of unreal things, she has a lot of knowledge when it comes to magical creatures. Though her odd view on things may alienate her from some, her open mindedness welcomes others. She is patient, honest, and doesn't hold grudges or even seem to notice when people are doing things to offend her, usually. She would not have been sorted into Ravenclaw if she had not been clever, and she very much is. While she was not necessarily studious, she was smart and tended to pick up on things quickly. Luna may not be that big of a presence, just like how she is not that big in stature, but she is very sure of herself. She is friendly and kind to anyone, no matter whether they are friendly or kind in return -- and she was the type of person to apologize to someone after hexing them. After her experiences at Malfoy Manor, she is not as quick to apologize, as she is well aware of situations where force is necessary to survive. Despite the news of Harry’s death, Luna’s hope did not vanish. She remains optimistic that good will triumph. As she was taught to believe early on in life, she does not think that those who die are gone for good. Deep down she holds the belief that she will see him again, and that gives her comfort in the face of all the adversity going on in the world. History Luna was born to Tatiana and Xenophilius Lovegood on the first of January, 1981. She led a happy, carefree childhood, loved immensely by both her parents and encouraged to imagine to her heart's content. With her father running the Quibbler and her mother experimenting, she was raised in an environment of constant creativity. That environment was only sullied when all of a sudden, when Luna was nine years old, she saw her mother die. She had been sitting on the floor at Tatiana's feet when a spell went awry and all of a sudden she was crumpled on the floor next to her daughter. Despite the tragedy in her life, Luna came to terms and peace with her mother's death rather quickly. Her father explained to her that one day they would see her again, and that promise kept her from being overwhelmed by grief. Her early years at Hogwarts were as uneventful as they could have been. She was sorted into Ravenclaw and immediately became somewhat of an outcast. It didn't bother her, she liked having time to herself to think and to make jewelry and become good at her studies. The first three years passed rather quietly. Of course there were the disturbances in the castle, but nothing that directly influenced her. Of course she mourned Cedric when he died, especially because she was growing somewhat close to Cho, but that was as close as the tragedy got. When she was in her fourth year, her friendship with Ginny Weasley led her to joining Dumbledore's Army. She hadn't ever really been around a group of people, at least not one that considered her one of them, but it was a nice change of pace. Being in Dumbledore's Army also helped her excel in Defense Against the Dark Arts. She even fought against the Death Eaters in the Department of Mysteries, and was the only student there who was not a Gryffindor. Her sixth year was somewhat lonely, as Harry, Hermione and Ron were not at school. She teamed up with Ginny and Neville to try and fight against the dark powers that were taking over the school. That was all well and good, of course, until she was captured on the train on her way home for Christmas break and imprisoned in the basement of Malfoy Manor. She spent a lot of time there with Ollivander, before she was rescued. It was directly after she was rescued that Harry was captured. After arriving at Shell Cottage and Harry not following soon after, she knew that something was horribly wrong. The message came through the wireless loud and clear -- Harry Potter was dead. The news hit Luna like a ton of bricks. It wasn’t just that Harry had been the biggest hope in the world against Lord Voldemort, he had been her friend. They had gone to a party together. That seemed trivial, but it meant something to her. He was the reason that she was safe and away from Malfoy Manor and the Death Eaters that had been there. If he hadn’t shown up, she easily could have been there still. Going back to Hogwarts was a brief thought in her mind, but she knew it wasn’t safe. She had already been abducted and stolen away once, and she didn’t want that to happen again. Staying away from there and staying out of sight seemed like the best course of action. So she went into hiding, getting help from the Order of the Phoenix when she needed a place to stay. Being on her own wasn’t something that bothered her, she had been a loner most of her life. Still, it was good to know that there were those she could rely on. Random Facts 1- Isn’t sure if her father is alive or dead, as last she heard was that their house was destroyed. She’s too scared to try and contact him, in case the owl is intercepted. 2- Without school, she is finding it difficult to find ways to occupy her time, and that is what is most difficult about being on her own and in hiding. 3- She very much wants to be in the Order. Samples JOURNAL ENTRY: [Private to the Order of the Phoenix] Does anyone know of a place I can stay in or around the London area? I can’t help but feel a bit antsy where I currently am and was thinking of moving to there for a bit, as soon as I am able. If there is anyone who knows of a safe place that would have me, even just for a week or so, I would be so very grateful. [/Order of the Phoenix] I was thinking about getting a cat. Until I realized that cats scare away the Flibbertywhomps and I would never want to do that. RP SAMPLE: Luna had barely been out in public for a week. The last time she had been, it was to get some food. Getting normal robes had been tricky, but she had managed to get some through mail order just before she had moved somewhere new. She hated hiding like that, hated feeling paranoid every time she was around other people. What was she supposed to do when she felt like she should constantly be looking over her shoulder -- but then knowing not to dare do that in case she should draw attention to herself by looking as paranoid as she felt. She’d never passed her Apparation examination. She’d never had the chance to. Traveling was always a little nerve racking, but she’d done well so far. It just meant that when she got to where she was going, like just then, she was a little worn down. Knowing that she was somewhere that she got to call home for a little while was a relief, and she tapped lightly on the back door, waiting for it to open. |
